For planar n-i-p device, SnO 2 /perovskite interface, which not only governs the electron extraction and transport, but affects perovskite formation, takes fundamental role to achieve perovskite solar cells (PCSs) with high performance in the context of commercializing courses. KCl treatment is one of the most effective and widely accepted strategy to optimize SnO 2 /perovskite interface. Whereas the role of KCl draws tremendous controversy, and needs further investigation. Thereby, we systematically investigated the influence of KCl treatment on optoelectronic properties of SnO 2 and perovskite film, and the photovoltaic performance of PSCs. It is demonstrated that KCl treatment can suppress hydroxyl on SnO 2 surface and improve charge extraction. In addition, KCl treatment can promote perovskite crystallization. Due to the well matched lattice constants of KCl and α-FAPbI 3 , we proposed that KCl may serve as seed crystal to guide FAPbI 3 formation, while Cl further promotes perovskite crystal growth. Consequently, the solar cell based on SnO 2 /KCl exhibited promoted photovoltaic performance with efficiency increased from 19.51% to 20.65%, and improved thermal stability in ambient condition. Meanwhile, benefiting from the capability of promoting α-FAPbI 3 crystallization of KCl treatment, MA-free device based on SnO 2 /KCl achieved increased efficiency from 19.03% to 20.42%.

Planar n–i–p perovskite solar cells (PSCs) based on a SnO 2 electron transport layer dominate the certified high-efficiency devices. However, the defects located at the SnO 2 /perovskite interface (i.e., buried interface) or inside the perovskite films impede the further improvement of power conversion efficiency (PCE). Herein, nickel acetate (NiAc 2 ) is introduced on buried interface as a bidirectional modifier to improve electron extraction of SnO 2 and the crystal growth of perovskite for the first time. First, NiAc 2 is chemically anchored on SnO 2 to passivate oxygen vacancies, increase conductivity, and optimize the energy level alignment of the buried interface. Second, the porous morphology of PbI 2 film deposited on NiAc 2 -modified SnO 2 endows more sufficient permeation and reaction of organic amine salts (formamidinium iodide [FAI] and methylammonium iodide [MAI]), forming high-quality perovskite film with reduced PbI 2 residues. Meanwhile, NiI 2 and MAAc/FAAc may be produced via in situ reaction between NiAc 2 and organic amine salts, which serve as interface modifier and crystallization regulator to further reduce defects located at the buried interface or inside the perovskite film, respectively. Consequently, an improved PCE of 23.02% for SnO 2 -based PSCs with an ultrahigh open-circuit voltage of 1.17 V is obtained. In addition, long-term storage and light stability of the optimized PSCs are improved.

The improvement of power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of the perovskite solar cell (PSC) is hindered by carrier recombination originating from the defects at the buried interface of the PSC. It is crucial to suppress the nonradiative recombination and facilitate carrier transfer in PSC via interface engineering. Herein, P-biguanylbenzoic acid hydrochloride (PBGH) is developed to modify the tin oxide (SnO 2 )/perovskite interface. The effects of PBGH on carrier transportation, perovskite growth, defect passivation, and PSC performance are systematically investigated. On the one hand, the PBGH can effectively passivate the trap states of Sn dangling bonds and O vacancies on the SnO 2 surface via Lewis acid/base coordination, which is conducive to improving the conductivity of SnO 2 film and accelerating the electron extraction. On the other hand, PBGH modification assists the formation of high-quality perovskite film with low defect density due to its strong interaction with PbI 2 . Consequently, the PBGH-modified PSC exhibits a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.79%, which is one of the highest PCEs among all the FACsPbI 3 -based PSCs reported to date. In addition, the stabilities of perovskite films and devices under high temperature/humidity and light illumination conditions are also systematically studied.

The interfacial properties for the buried junctions of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs) play a crucial role for the further enhancement of the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of devices. Delicate manipulation of the interface properties such as the defect density, energy alignment, perovskite film quality, etc., guarantees efficient extraction and transport of photogenerated carriers. Herein, chlorobenzenesulfonic potassium salts are presented as a novel multifunctional agent to modify the buried tin oxide (SnO 2 )/perovskite interface for regular PSCs. The increasing number of carbon-chlorine bonds (C Cl) in 2,4,5-trichlorobenzenesulfonic potassium (3Cl-BSAK) exhibit efficient interaction with uncoordinated Sn, effectively filling oxygen vacancies in the SnO 2 surface. Importantly, synergistic effects of the functional group-rich organic anions and the potassium ion are achieved for reduced defect density, carrier recombination, and hysteresis. A champion PCE of 24.27% and the open-circuit voltage ( V OC ) up to 1.191 V for modified devices are obtained. The unencapsulated devices maintain 80% of their initial PCE after aging at 80 °C for 800 h in the atmosphere and 95% after aging for 100 d. With 3Cl-BSAK decoration, a high efficiency semitransparent PSC with a PCE of 12.83% and an average visible light transmittance (AVT) over 27% is also obtained.
