Interface engineering via temperature-dependent self-transformation on SnS2/SnS for enhanced piezocatalysis

Wenrou Tian,Jun Han,Najun Li,Dongyun Chen,Qingfeng Xu,Hua Li,Jianmei Lu

Heterojunction has been widely used in vibration-driven piezocatalysis for enhanced charges separation, while the weak interfaces seriously affect the efficiency during mechanical deformations due to prepared by traditional step-by-step methods. Herein, the intimate contact interfaces with shared S atoms are ingeniously constructed in SnS 2 /SnS anchored on porous carbon by effective interface engineering, which is in-situ derived from temperature-dependent self-transformation of SnS 2 . Benefiting from intimate contact interfaces, the piezoelectricity is remarkably improved due to the larger interfacial dipole moment caused by uneven distribution of charges. Importantly, vibration-induced piezoelectric polarization field strengthens the interfacial electric field to further promote the separation and migration of charges. The dynamic charges then transfer in porous carbon with high conductivity and adsorption for significantly improved piezocatalytic activity. The degradation efficiency of bisphenol A (BPA) is 6.3 times higher than SnS 2 and H 2 evolution rate is increased by 3.8 times. Compared with SnS 2 /SnS prepared by two-step solvothermal method, the degradation efficiency of BPA and H 2 evolution activity are increased by 3 and 2 times, respectively. It provides a theoretical guidance for developing various multiphase structural piezocatalyst with strong interface interactions to improve the piezocatalytic efficiency.

Rational design of hollow C@SnS2/SnS@C cubes with N-doping to realize stepwise sodium storage induced structural stability for highly stable cycling performance

Yuting Tang,Fei Wang,Chang Nie,Haoxi Dong,Yiming Bai,Mingshu Zhao,Sen Yang

Current application of SnS 2 -based anodes in sodium-ion batteries fails to meet the demand for higher Na + storage capacity due to the structural pulverization induced by significant volume changes during cycling. Herein, a novel composite of hollow C@SnS 2 /SnS@C cubes with excellent diffusion kinetics and structural stability from stepwise Na + storage is designed. The SnS with gentle pseudocapacitive reaction acts as the self-supporter to prevent the collapse of SnS 2 /SnS heterostructure during the Na + insertion/extraction. Together with the clamping of double carbon layers and hollow construction, the volume change caused structural instability in heterostructure is effectively alleviated. The rapid transport of electrons and ions within the built-in electric field of heterostructure endows the composite an excellent diffusion kinetics, which is generated from the narrow bandgap and outstanding Na + absorption of heterostructure according to the first-principle calculation. Thus, the as-prepared composite maintains a remarkable capacity of 547.9 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles at current density of 0.5 A g −1 . Even a capacity of 502.5 mAh g −1 with a low attenuation rate of 0.035 % per cycle is achieved at 2 A g −1 after 1000 cycles. The work proposes an effective approach to achieve effective Na  +  storage of SnS 2 -based anodes with long-lasting structural stability.

Significantly Enhanced V-oc and Efficiency in Perovskite Solar Cells through Composition Adjustment of SnS2 Electron Transport Layers

Liguo Gao,Caiyun Liu,Fanning Meng,Anmin Liu,Yanqiang Li,Yang Li,Chu Zhang,Meiqiang Fan,Guoying Wei,Tingli Ma

The energy level alignment (ELA) between electron transport layers (ETLs) and perovskite layers would affect the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), especially for the open-circuit voltage (Voc). However, systematic investigations were rarely reported. In this letter, a series of SnS2/SnS composite ETLs were in situ synthesized, where the doping of SnS was used to adjust the energy level of SnS2 nanosheets. Results showed that electrons could be transferred from perovskite layers to ETLs; even the conduction band (CB) of ETLs was a little higher than that of perovskite layers. In comparison with PSCs based on SnS2 ETLs, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs based on SnS2/SnS was enhanced by 27.95% (from 14.13% to 18.08%) with a higher Voc promotion (from 0.94 to 1.08 V). A corresponding explanation and working principle have been proposed. In addition, a stability test demonstrated that PSCs based on SnS2/SnS ETLs possessed much better stability than that of traditional PSCs based on TiO2 ETLs because of the strong interaction of Pb and S. This work proposes a promising future for reducing the Voc loss and improving the stability of perovskites.

Fabrication of SnS2/SnS Heterojunction with Enhanced Light-Assisted Electrochemical Water Splitting Performance

Yan Shancheng,Shen Yu,Wang Ka,Song Haizeng,Wang Jun

Semiconducting metal sulfides have raised strong research interest among researchers as a promising candidate for light-assisted electrochemical water splitting, because they have wide band gap. In order to harvest more light wavelengths for improvement of light-assisted electrochemical water splitting capacity, we fabricated SnS2/SnS heterojunction nanosheets via facile and environmental route. The SnS2/SnS heterojunction nanosheets were used as photo-electrocatalytic material which exhibited low over potential of −0.64 V at the current density of 10 mA·cm−2 in 0.5 M NaSO4 solution. Moreover, the SnS and SnS2 nanosheets displayed high over potential values of −0.80 and −0.88 V at the current density of 10 mA·cm−2, respectively. This research finding may therefore show the potential for use of SnS2/SnS heterojunction nanosheets as low cost and environmentally friendly photo-electrocatalysis.

Shielded SnS2/SnS heterostructures on three-dimensional graphene framework for high-rate and stable sodium-ion storage

Xiaohan Su,Dong Su,Zhiyuan Sang,Xiao Yan,Ji Liang

Tin sulfides are promising anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) for their high theoretical capacity and fast kinetics for Na storage. However, the severe volume expansion and intrinsically low charge conductivity fundamentally compromise their electrochemical performance. Addressing at the issue, SnS 2 /SnS heterostructures are decorated on three-dimensional graphene nanosheets (3D GNS) framework, which is then shielded with a nanocarbon layer. In this nanocomposite, the SnS 2 /SnS p-n heterostructures induce an internal electric field on the heterointerfaces to promote the charge transfer inside the material, which effectively ensures the rate capability of the material. Moreover, the 3D GNS provides a porous conductive network to accelerate the long-range transport of electron further enhancing its rate performance. Meanwhile, the dual-carbon structure would alleviate the volume expansion of SnS 2 /SnS during cycling, ensuring improved stability. The integration of these merits leads to excellent battery performance for the material, including high reversible capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability. This concept of simultaneously enhancing the ionic, electronic, and mass conductivity as well as the structural stability by combining heterogeneous structures, 3D conductive networks, and protective shields can further shed light on not only SIB materials but also other energy storage materials or devices.
