In this work, Fe 3 O 4 /B 4 C (FeB) composites were successfully prepared by a facile co-precipitation process. FeB composites were characterized using XRD , FTIR, N 2 adsorption-desorption, XPS, etc techniques and then used as heterogeneous Fenton catalysts to activate green oxidant (H 2 O 2 ) for the degradation of TCH. The removal efficiency of TCH by FeB composites was explored including different parameters of Fe 3 O 4 loading on B 4 C, catalyst dosage, initial solution pH, H 2 O 2 dosage, and reaction temperature. The highest photo-Fenton catalytic efficiency was obtained for the composites with a mass ratio of Fe 3 O 4 to B 4 C of 1:0.75. At this time, the removal efficiency of Fe 3 O 4 /B 4 C was 2 times and 391 times that of the parent Fe 3 O 4 and B 4 C, respectively, and B 4 C can effectively improve the efficiency of the Fenton cycle. h + , e - , and ·OH were mainly responsible for the degradation of TCH by Fe 1 B 0.75 composites. After repeated use for five times, the removal efficiency of the catalyst was reduced by only 8.0%. The disparity in work functions by density functional theory calculations confirmed the formation of an internal electric field at the Fe 3 O 4 /B 4 C composites interface, which contributed the transfer of charge carriers between the Fe 3 O 4 and B 4 C. Moreover, the FeB composite showed a high stability, indicating that FeB composites may be a promising heterogeneous catalyst .

Unique Fe3S4/Cu2O composites were constructed with high Fenton-like photocatalytic activity through the impregnation coprecipitation method. The structure, morphology, optical, magnetic, and photocatalytic properties of the as-prepared composites were explored in detail. The findings suggest that small Cu2O particles were grown on the surface of Fe3S4. The removal efficiency of TCH by Fe3S4/Cu2O was 65.7, 4.75, and 3.67 times higher than that of pure Fe3S4, Cu2O, and the Fe3S4 + Cu2O mixture, respectively, when the mass ratio of Fe3S4 and Cu2O was 1:1 at pH 7.2. The synergistic effect between Cu2O and Fe3S4 was the main factor for TCH degradation. The Cu+ species from Cu2O increased the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle during the Fenton reaction. •O2– and h+ were the main active radicals; however, •OH and e– played the second role in the photocatalytic degradation reaction. Moreover, the Fe3S4/Cu2O composite retained good recyclability and versatility, and could be conveniently separated by a magnet.

The widespread use of tetracycline has made the efficient and environmentally friendly treatment of tetracycline-contaminated wastewater a pressing issue in environmental management. This study synthesized high-purity and uniformly mixed Cu 0 /CuFeO 2 composite materials using a one-step hydrothermal method, aiming to enhance the catalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) through the synergistic effect of zero-valent metal and bimetallic compounds. The Cu 0 /CuFeO 2 composite demonstrated exceptional PMS activation performance, achieving 84% tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) degradation within 1 min and 91% degradation within 20 min. The degradation process involved the synergistic action of •OH, SO 4 •− , 1 O 2 , and electron transfer. The degradation intermediates of TCH were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), and four potential degradation pathways were proposed. Furthermore, Cu 0 /CuFeO 2 exhibited robust degradation performance across a wide pH range and maintained high efficiency in complex aqueous environments. Even after five cycles, the composite retained 78% of its degradation efficiency, demonstrating excellent stability and reproducibility in the degradation of TCH using the Cu 0 /CuFeO 2 /PMS system. Practitioner Points A high-purity and uniformly mixed Cu 0 /CuFeO 2 composite was synthesized. Robust catalytic activity and stability was observed for the synthesized catalyst. Synergistic contributions from •OH, SO 4 •− , 1 O 2 , and e − resulted in TCH degradation. Four potential TCH degradation pathways were derived. Graphical A Cu 0 /CuFeO₂ composite was synthesized, characterized, and optimized to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for degrading tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) and related antibiotics. In this system, Cu 0 acted as an electron donor, facilitating electron transfer through the redox cycling of metal ions. This process sustained the continuous generation of reactive oxygen species—including •OH, SO₄•⁻, and ¹O₂—as well as electrons, thereby promoting the efficient degradation of TCH. Furthermore, four potential degradation pathways were proposed based on the identified degradation intermediates.
