Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is one of the key research directions for future human-computer interaction (HCI), biomedicine, and environmental protection. Bio-based materials are an essential branch of many degradable materials. Keratin has attracted much attention due to its advantages of easy access, biodegradability, and good biocompatibility . A highly sensitive single-electrode TENG (S-TENG) based on CaCl 2 /PVA/keratin and Ecoflex with micro-domes is designed. The excellent stability (18,000 cycles) and stretchability (200%) of the sensor are confirmed by research. Moreover, the presence of CaCl 2 and keratin can significantly increase the S-TENG's output voltage, and the reason is also explored by the density functional theory (DFT) method. Through simulation, it is found that the decrease of the HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital)-LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) gap and the increase of the electrostatic potential are the root causes of the voltage increase. Relying on the excellent characteristics of the S-TENG, finger curvatures, gestures, and object shapes are recognized. Among them, the accuracy of object shape recognition by machine learning algorithm reached 98.1%. This study provides a new method for improving the output efficiency and prolonging the service life of S-TENG and confirms the feasibility of the electron cloud trap model to explain biomass triboelectric materials by keratin and CaCl 2 .

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has shown great potential in real-time monitoring of individual physiological state. Conductive metal nanofibers maintain good stability and mechanical strain as electrodes. Herein, a simple and safe strategy was provided to prepare electrospun gelatin membranes with in-situ coated silver layer for flexible TENG devices. Electrospun gelatin membranes were prepared by a one-pot method of dopamine-grafted gelatinmodification and physical modification through blending with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The silver coated electrospun membrane was constructed using the reductive immobilization of silver by dopamine. The content of silver and the output signal of the TENG can be further controlled using bio-crosslinked gelatin membranes. The electrospun gelatin membranes with immobilized silver layers did not show significantly cytotoxic to fibroblasts. The tensile strength of the membranes crosslinked reached 4 MPa, which was more flexible than the membranes uncrosslinked. The membranes showed significant inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( P. aeruginosa ). The triboelectric output performance of the membrane can be controlled by adjusting the crosslinking method, which providing an effective strategy for implementing TENG in the monitoring of the wound healing process.

Flexible wearable devices based on triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) can be used to track many parameters around the human body, including signals from motions, gestures, and contacts, to perform a variety of tasks. However, it is still a challenge to achieve wide working temperature and multi-parameter body motion sensing with TENG sensors. To address that, this work reports a facile 3D printing-based strategy for preparing functionalized heat-resistant TENG sensors. In detail, a printable heat-resistant ink and multiple 3D printing-based assembly methods are proposed. The as-fabricated ink, which could maintain up to 200 ℃, then serves as multiple components in the TENG sensors through patterning. Functionalized TENG sensors and human–machine interfaces are printed and subsequently networked on a human body to sense comprehensive motion information. The results indicate six typical motions can be recognized with 94.85% accuracy based on neural network algorithms. A simple digital twin for motion capture and trace tracking in virtual space is furthermore implemented. Combining the proposed TENG sensors with virtual reality (VR) platforms opens up a new road for human safety monitoring in high-temperature environments.

MOF (metal organic framework) materials have been used as functional materials in a number of fields due to their diverse spatial tunability, which produces rich porous structures with stable and continuous pores and a high specific surface area. A triboelectric nanogenerator can convert trace mechanical energy into electrical energy, and the application of MOF materials to triboelectric nanogenerators has been intensively studied. In this work, we report on two MOFs with similar spatial structures, and the modulation of the end microstructures was achieved using the difference in F content. The output performance of friction power generation increases with the increase in F content, and the obtained polyacidic ligand materials can be used to construct self-powered corrosion protection systems, which can effectively protect metallic materials from corrosion. Keywords:TENG;MOF;corrosion protection;cathodic protection

Sensing and clean energy advancements increase demands for efficient mechanical energy harvesting in self-powered microdevices. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) represent viable solutions, but their performance critically depends on the triboelectric layer design. Herein, MWCNTs/Fe3O4 composite fillers (MAG-MWCNTs) were prepared via in situ growth of Fe3O4 on multiwalled carbon nanotubes, incorporated into poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), and magnetically oriented to construct high-performance TENGs. The magnetically aligned structure significantly enhanced compressive properties and electrical output: at 0.75 wt % loading, the open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, and charge quantity reached 8.2-fold, 7.7-fold, and 4.7-fold those of pure PDMS devices, respectively, with excellent stability across frequencies and pressures. This work reveals the intrinsic mechanism of magnetic orientation in regulating TENG performance, providing new insights for optimization.

Graphical A ready-to-use collagen triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) wound dressing system has been developed. The electric field generated by the TENG promotes the release of the analgesic drug from the collagen patch to achieve rapid pain relief. This system provides stable electrical stimulation output and its low cost and portability also offer an effective strategy for emergency on-site applications. Healing of exposed wounds is a key process in the repair of skin injuries and is crucial to prevent infection, maintain fluid balance, and promote tissue regeneration. Conventional dressings have been widely used; however, they are often inconvenient to use and have limited analgesic effects. In this work, we have developed a ready to use, disposable collagen-triboelectric nanogenerator (Col-TENG) wound protection dressing system. A porous collagen patch acts as a drug reservoir and a contact layer for the skin to protect the wound and remove traumatic contaminants. The frictional electrical field generated by TENG effectively promotes the release of analgesic lidocaine drug from the collagen patch. In vitro and in vivo experiments have shown that compared to conventional drug release systems, this novel friction-facilitated drug release device achieves faster and more drug release, as well as superior analgesia effects, which is promising in application of pain management in wild environments.

Electrotherapy is of great interest in the field of tissue repair as an effective, well-tolerated, and noninvasive treatment. Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has shown advantages in promoting wound healing due to its peak output characteristic and low Joule heating effect. However, it is limited in infected wound healing due to poor antimicrobial capacity. Here, a wearable triboelectric stimulator (WTS) is developed that consists of a flexible TENG (F-TENG) and a triboelectric-responsive drug delivery hydrogel (TR-DDH) for healing of bacterium-infected wounds. F-TENG can generate pulsed current to wounds by converting mechanical energy from body movements. Polypyrrole is prone to reduction and volume contraction under electrical stimulation, resulting in desorption of curcumin nanoparticles (CUR NPs) from the polypyrrole in TR-DDH. Therefore, the highly efficient and controllable release of CUR NPs can be achieved by triboelectric stimulation. According to the in vitro and in vivo experiments, WTS has the greatest antimicrobial effect and the fastest promotion of infected wound healing compared to treatment with electrical stimulation or curcumin. Finally, the safety assessment demonstrates that the WTS has excellent tissue safety for chronic wound healing. Synergistic therapy with WTS provides an efficient strategy for chronic wound healing and smart-responsive drug delivery systems.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have been widely applied in sensors, wearable electronics, and human–computer interactions since their advent. However, conventional wearable TENGs still face two key challenges: limited stretchability caused by rigid metal electrodes and poor environmental stability. Here, we address both issues by replacing metal electrodes with a highly stable ionic organic hydrogel, enabling the development of two high-performance wearable TENG devices. The organic hydrogel is prepared via the method of “free radical polymerization + glycerol modification”, forming a polyacrylamide-sodium alginate double network structure. It possesses an ultrahigh elongation at break of 1046%, wide temperature stability from −25 to 80 °C (no freezing at low temperatures and a water retention rate of 87.2%), and excellent electrical conductivity of 0.604 S/m, breaking through the performance bottlenecks of traditional electrodes at the material level. Based on this electrode, two devices are developed: a Compression-Separation Mode Single-Electrode TENG (CS-TENG) and a Stretch-Release Mode TENG (SR-TENG). The CS-TENG, paired with an aramid nanofiber triboelectric layer, exhibits an outstanding power supply capability. It can charge a 10 μF capacitor to 5.65 V within 2 min, stably power an electronic watch for 9 s, or light 124 series connected LEDs, providing a reliable power source for wearable sensor systems. Relying on an integrated structure encapsulated by silicone rubber, the SR-TENG can not only independently distinguish stretching states through stretch release but also be paired with human skin. When mounted on fingers, arms, soles, and other body parts, it converts diverse human motions into readily distinguishable electrical signatures, enabling high-precision self-powered sensing. Overall, by combining hydrogel-electrode innovation with device-architecture optimization, this work realizes wearable TENGs that simultaneously offer high deformability, wide-temperature stability, and integrated energy-harvesting/sensing functionality, providing a viable pathway toward scalable, flexible, and wearable smart wearable systems.

Accurate ocean wave sensing in polar and other low-temperature marine environments is of great significance for marine environmental observation, climate research, and navigation safety. However, conventional wave sensors rely on external power supplies and suffer from poor stability under low-temperature and high-salinity conditions, making long-term self-powered waves sensing a significant challenge. Herein, a highly stable composite eutectogel electrode is developed by integrating sodium lignosulfonate, Fe 3+ crosslinking, Zn 2+ -carboxylate coordination interactions, and a choline chloride/urea deep eutectic solvent (DES). The DES effectively suppresses solvent crystallization and endows the gel with excellent low-temperature tolerance, while the synergistic effect of metal coordination and multiple non-covalent interactions constructs a robust ion-conducting network with enhanced structural stability. Furthermore, eutectogel-based composite electrode architecture is designed to improve electrical conductivity and charge collection efficiency, thereby enabling stable electrical output under harsh marine conditions. Based on the as-prepared eutectogel electrode, a self-powered solid–liquid triboelectric nanogenerator is fabricated for ocean wave-motion sensing. The device can detect the wave amplitude, with an accuracy of 0.2 cm, and sense the frequency of waves ranging from 0.2 Hz to 1.6 Hz. More importantly, the SL-TENG exhibits excellent environmental adaptability, operating reliably in 3.5 wt% simulated seawater and at 0 °C. The current retention ratio reaches approximately 91% at 0 °C, which is significantly higher than that of the hydrogel-based device (≈6%). The remarkably low-temperature and salt-tolerant performance originates from the stable ion-transport network and anti-freezing characteristics of the eutectogel electrode. This work provides an effective strategy for constructing environmentally resilient eutectogel-based triboelectric devices and offers a promising route toward self-powered wave sensing systems for long-term deployment in harsh marine environments.

Triboelectric polymer with high charge density and stable output performance is the cornerstone to promote the urgent commercialization of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) for various applications. In this work, the facilitated surface manipulation strategy based on direct fluorination technique is applied for triboelectric polymers to boost their performance. The Polydimethylsiloxane film as experimental samples is treated with different fluorination temperatures and times, whose characterization results demonstrated significant changes in both physical and chemical properties. The F atoms substitution in the fluorination process yields strong electron-withdrawing groups on the molecular, and a μm level fluorinated layer is formed with nanostructured surface . In the atmosphere environment, the fluorinated sample-based contact separation TENG attains a maximum charge density of about 150 μC/m 2 , an enhancement of 385% compared to the original sample. Meanwhile, the TENG features favorable output stability with output charge retention of about 87% in a high humidity environment and realizes sustainable operation in the long term. The enhanced charge density is attributed to the fluorinated molecular with negative electrostatic potential and lower energy level of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital , while a rougher and denser physical structure with favorable humidity resistance allows to maintain the charge stability. Finally, the manipulation strategy for elevating the electrification performance of triboelectric polymers is summarized in terms of both elemental composition and physical structure. This work represents a feasible approach to manipulate the triboelectric polymer on surface that can be large-scale preparation and utilization, which is dedicated to guiding high performance TENGs employment towards commercialization and practical application in the near future.

Current triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) reliably monitor vibration frequency, intensity, and environmental parameters, but their structural and operational constraints prevent accurate recognition of vibration waveforms. To overcome this limitation, we engineered a PDMS-encapsulated honeycomb nickel framework, in which the incorporation of nanoscale BaTiO 3 particles into the PDMS layer amplifies triboelectric output and improves waveform fidelity. Specifically, by enhancing the dielectric constant of the triboelectric layer, we achieved simultaneous improvement of TENG output performance and enrichment of the signal waveform, thereby increasing monitoring accuracy. Under compressive loading, interfacial interactions generate distinct contact and separation peaks in the triboelectric signal. By contrast, vibrational excitation produces a series of progressively attenuated peaks. The encapsulated structure is conducive to the device output stable waveform, highlighting its suitability for robust sensing in natural environments. Frequency monitoring exhibits high precision, with relative errors of 0.2–1.3%, 0–1%, 0.5–1% and 0.5–1% at 30, 50, 80 and 100 Hz, respectively, confirming accurate operation across diverse vibration regimes. Additionally, the encapsulated architecture ensures waveform stability under harsh conditions, underscoring its potential for reliable sensing in natural environments. Furthermore, the integration of a deep learning algorithm enables high-resolution classification of vibration states with an accuracy of 100% approximately, achieving effective monitoring of the operating status of the jaw crusher and vibrating screen. This work not only verifies the feasibility of designing a self-powered vibration sensor but also establishes a solid foundation for intelligent sensing in the era of AIoT.
