Innovative application of Synergistic extraction system benzoyltrifluoroacetone(HBTA) and tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide(TOPO) for the extraction of lithium from alkaline brine were investigated. The extraction efficiencies of this extraction system were measured as a function of various extraction parameters, including pH value of aqueous phase, extraction temperature, and composition of organic phase. The extraction complex was determined by slope analysis method, which indicated that HBTA, TOPO and lithium formed a 2:1:1 complex. With this system, separation factor between lithium and sodium could be over 2100 by two stages countercurrent extraction according to McCabe Thiele diagram, and lithium extraction could be 95%. Co-extracted or restrained sodium in organic phase could be fully scrubbed by 0.5 M HCl at O/A = 10:1 and equilibrium pH = 4.68. Lithium reserved in organic phase was stripped completely into aqueous phase using 2.5 M HCl at O/A = 10:1 subsequently. Blank organic after stripping was regenerated by 2 M NaOH at R = 70% for next extraction circle. Stability test of organic phase was conducted with five-stage extraction process containing two stages extraction, single stage scrubbing, stripping and regeneration. Lithium yield reached 95.5% with high purity through the process, neither emulsification nor third phase was found during whole process.

The kinetics of forward extraction of lithium from alkaline solution is investigated using a Lewis cell. Different parameters such as lithium concentration, HFTA concentration, TOPO concentration, pH value of aqueous phase, type of anion ion, as well as temperature are studied separately to examine their effect on lithium extraction rate, and an initial rate equation is deduced based on the experiment results. By changing the agitation speed and interfacial area of the Lewis cell, controlling mechanism of the extraction process is determined. Experimental results suggest that lithium extraction is controlled by chemical reaction at the interface rather than in the bulk phase. Further data analysis demonstrates that the lithium extraction is first order with respect to lithium ion concentration, HFTA concentration, and TOPO concentration. Different types of anion ions in aqueous phase show almost no effect on lithium extraction rate according to the experiments. Rate equation of lithium extraction by HFTA and TOPO is proposed as R Li,0 = 10 −4.33±0.1 [Li + ][HFTA][TOPO]. The rate-determining step of lithium extraction is the formation of final complex at the interface and the deduced extraction mechanism justified the experiments results well. For stripping process, effect of lithium concentration in organic, hydrogen ion concentration stirring speed and interfacial area on stripping rate are investigated. Analysis of the experimental data reveal that lithium stripping from organic phase is mainly controlled by chemical reaction and the reaction takes place at the interface rather than phase bulk. Linear regression of the plot of log[HCl] and log[Li + ] org versus logR Li,st reveals that the reaction orders with respect to HCl and lithium in organic are both 1, namely the stripping process is first order with HCl and lithium concentration in organic. Rate equation of lithium stripping from organic phase by HCl is proposed as R Li,st = 10 −4.0±0.1 [Li + ] org [HCl].

Background Dysosma versipellis ( D. versipellis ) has been traditionally used as a folk medicine for ages. However, the specific phytochemicals responsible for their correlated anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and antiviral activities remain unknown. Purpose This study aimed to explore the specific active components in D. versipellis responsible for its potential anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and antiviral effects, and further elucidate the corresponding mechanisms of action. Methods Bioaffinity ultrafiltration coupled to liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (UF-LC/MS) was firstly hired to fast screen for the anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and antiviral compounds from rhizomes of D. versipellis , and then further validation was conducted using in vitro inhibition assays and molecular docking. Results A total of 12, 12, 9 and 12 phytochemicals with considerable affinities to Topo I, Topo II, COX-2 and ACE2 were fished out, respectively. The anti-proliferative assay in vitro indicated that podophyllotoxin and quercetin exhibited comparably strong inhibitory rates on A549 and HT-29 cells compared with 5-FU and etoposide. Meanwhile, kaempferol displayed prominent dose-dependent inhibition against COX-2 with IC 50 value at 0.36 ± 0.02 μM lower than indomethacin at 0.73 ± 0.07 μM. Furthermore, quercetin exerted stronger inhibitory effect against ACE2 with IC 50 value at 104.79 ± 8.26 μM comparable to quercetin 3- O -glucoside at 135.25 ± 6.54 μM. Conclusion We firstly showcased an experimental investigation on the correlations between bioactive phytochemicals of D. versipellis and their multiple drug targets reflecting its potential pharmacological activities, and further constructed a multi-target and multi-component network to decipher its empirical traditional applications. It could not only offer a reliable and valuable experimental basis to better comprehend the curative effects of D. versipellis but also provide more new insights and strategies for other traditional medicinal plants.

In this paper, trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) was combined with some environmental-friendly molecules to form hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (HDESs) for platinum (Pt) extraction from secondary resources. Due to the formation of HDESs, the loss of TOPO content in the aqueous solution obviously decreased. Then, the extraction behaviors under different vibrating time, acidity and salinity (NaCl/NaBr) were investigated and discussed. Among all the constructed HDESs, the TOPO/1-butanol showed the best Pt(IV) extraction performance (98.9%) in 5.6 mmol·L −1 Pt(IV) solution. Ion-association mechanism in the extraction process was proposed through the analysis of UV–vis and FT-IR spectra. In addition, the HDESs exhibited excellent selectivity to Pt(IV) in the experiments of multi-metal selective extraction. The extracted Pt(IV) could be easily and completely stripped by adding 3 mL 0.5 mol·L −1 NaOH solution, and the extraction ability of recovered extractants remained constant after 4 cycles of extraction tests. Furthermore, by using RSM-CCD optimization, the operating concentration of acidity and salinity was obtained: 1.27 mol·L −1 HCl and 2.65 mol·L −1 NaCl. Under optimal experimental conditions, the designed processes of Pt(IV) extraction further improved recycling efficiency.

This paper first reports on the high-selective separation and recovery of Li(I) from Na(I) and K(I) using the polymer inclusion membrane (PIM) system containing both thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) and trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) as the carrier molecules, and cellulose triacetate (CTA) as the base polymer. To characterize the PIM, we used Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning election microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The optimized results of this work showed that initial flux ( J 0 ) of Li(I) that was as high as 1.04 × 10 −2 mol m −2 h −1 , corresponding to permeability ( P ) of 3.62 × 10 −3 m h −1 , were recorded using the PIM composed of 50 wt% CTA and 26.74 wt% TTA + 23.26 wt% TOPO from a feed phase containing Li(I), Na(I) and K(I) in an alkaline chloride solution into an acceptor phase containing 0.1 M HCl. Li(I) was transported successfully to the acceptor phase but Na(I) and K(I) barely passed in the first 20 h. The separation factor ( S F ) of Li(I) over the Na(I) and K(I) respectively ( S F L i ( I ) / N a ( I ) ≒ 54.25, S F L i ( I ) / k ( I ) ≒ 50.60) demonstrated that Li(I) can be high-selectively separated. It is expected that this membrane can be applied for selective recovery of Li(I) from salt lakes or sea water that contains significant concentrations of Na(I) and K(I).

To investigate the shell deposited kinetics, CdSe quantum dots (QDs) and nanorods (NRs) with a maximum length of 17 nm were fabricated via organic synthesis routes. CdSe with a hexagonal crystal structure (wurtzite) favors epitaxial growth on the {002} surfaces when well-controlled conditions were used. The morphologies and sizes of CdSe samples depended strongly on chemicals and temperature. In the case of 320 °C, CdSe NRs with adjusted length of 7–17 nm were obtained from trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) and tetradecylphosphonic acid (TDPA). In contrast, short CdSe NRs (less than 10 nm) were created from octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) and trioctylamine (TOA). Spherical CdSe QDs were further fabricated using stearic acid (SA) and TOPO at 300 °C. CdSe cores were coated with Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S and CdTe shells. Anisotropic growth occurred during shell deposition because CdS shells grown preferentially on the {001} facet of the CdSe core. In the case of CdSe core prepared from TOPO and TDPA, CdSe/Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S core/shell samples prepared from long CdSe NRs (more than 10 nm) revealed a peanut morphology while the core/shell samples created from short ones (less than 10 nm) exhibited a spherical morphology. All of the CdSe/Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S core/shell samples revealed a similar length to that of the CdSe cores. This phenomenon was also observed for the core/shell samples fabricated using CdSe NRs prepared by ODPA and TOA. This is ascribed to the well-developed crystal structure of CdSe NRs fabricated using an organic synthesis at high temperature. In contrast, this anisotropic growth did not occur when spherical CdSe QDs prepared from SA and TOPO and the shell (Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S) coating carried out using SA and TOA. To indicate the shell depositing process, CdSe NRs fabricated using TDPA and TOPO were coated with a CdTe shell. CdTe monomers were deposited on the middle and tip parts of the CdSe NRs to form a tetrapod-like morphology at 220 °C. This is ascribed to the large difference of structure of CdSe (hexagonal) and CdTe (zinc blende).

A bioactivity repurposing strategy expanded the potential pharmacological applications of sophoridine derivatives. • Sophoridine derivatives modulated the Topo I–DNA catalytic system and exhibited preliminary antitumor activity. • Molecular simulations characterized potential interactions and dynamic behaviors within the Topo I–DNA complex. Sophoridine is a quinolizidine-type natural alkaloid with favorable structural modifiability and diverse biological activities. However, the pharmacological potential of sophoridine derivatives originally optimized for insecticidal activity remains largely unexplored. Here, a bioactivity repurposing strategy was applied to investigate the antitumor potential of these derivatives. Screening across multiple cancer cell models identified A549 cells as a sensitive model, and compounds 5 and 9 were selected as active candidates with IC 50 values of 0.124 μM and 1.396 μM, respectively. Topo I-mediated DNA relaxation assays showed that both compounds interfered with the activity of the Topo I–DNA catalytic system in a concentration-dependent manner. Molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and PMF analyses characterized their potential interactions within the Topo I–DNA complex. Preliminary in vivo evaluation suggested inhibitory effects on tumor growth accompanied by tumor tissue necrotic changes following treatment with compounds 5 and 9 . Collectively, these findings highlight the antitumor potential of sophoridine derivatives and suggest that modulation of the Topo I–DNA system may represent one potential mechanism contributing to their biological effects, providing preliminary insights for the further development of sophoridine-based anticancer candidates. A series of sophoridine-based derivatives were systematically evaluated for their antitumor potential. In vitro antiproliferative assays identified compounds 5 and 9 as active candidates against A549 cells, with IC 50 values of 0.124 μM and 1.396 μM, respectively. Topo I-mediated DNA relaxation assays showed that both compounds interfered with the Topo I–DNA catalytic system in a concentration-dependent manner. Molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and PMF analyses further characterized their potential interactions and dynamic behaviors within the Topo I–DNA complex. Preliminary in vivo evaluation suggested that compounds 5 and 9 exhibited inhibitory effects on tumor growth, accompanied by increased tumor necrotic changes. Collectively, these findings indicate that sophoridine derivatives possess promising antitumor potential, while modulation of the Topo I–DNA system may represent one potential mechanism contributing to their biological effects, providing a basis for further optimization and development of sophoridine-based antitumor candidates. Two ruthenium complexes containing a new phenanthroline-based ligand pai (pai = 2-(5-(1, 10- phenanthroline))-1H-acenaphtho[1′,2′:4,5]imidazole) were synthesized and characterized. Two ruthenium complexes were found to cleave DNA under irradiation, interact with CT-DNA by intercalation. Furthermore, DNA topoisomerase inhibition experiments indicated that complex 2 exhibited higher topoisomerase I inhibition activity (IC 50 = 10 μM) than complex 1 (IC 50 = 40 μM). Molecular modeling studies revealed that complex 2 stabilized Top1cc complex via π-π interaction and the formation of hydrogen bond. The cytotoxicity of complexes 1 and 2 against Eca-109 and A549 cells was also evaluate by MTT method, indicating that complex 2 exhibited good anticancer activity against Eca-109 cells (IC 50 = 17.23 ± 0.22 μM), but two ruthenium complexes displayed weak anticancer activity against A549 cells.

Chemotherapy is an important strategy for the treatment of bladder cancer. However, the main problem limiting the success of chemotherapy is the development of multidrug resistance (MDR). To improve the management of bladder cancer, it is an urgent matter to search for strategies to reverse MDR. We chose three kinds of herbal medicines including ginsenoside Rh2, (-)-Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) to detect their effects on bladder cancer. Reversal effects of these three herbal medicines for drug resistance in adriamycin (ADM)-resistant Pumc-91 cells (Pumc-91/ADM) were assessed by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) cell proliferation assay system. The mechanisms of reversal effect for TMP were explored in Pumc-91/ADM and T24/DDP cells. After Pumc-91/ADM and T24/DDP cells were treated with TMP, cell cycle distribution analysis was performed by flow cytometry. The expression of MRP1, GST, BCL-2, LRP and TOPO-II was evaluated using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) , immunefluorescence assay and western blot. It was observed that TMP was capable of enhancing the cytotoxicity of anticancer agents on Pumc-91/ADM cells in response to ADM, however Rh2 and EGCG were unable to. The reversal effect of TMP was also demonstrated in T24/DDP cells. Moreover, the treatment with TMP in Pumc-91/ADM and T24/DDP cells led to an increased of G1 phase accompanied with a concomitant decrease of cell numbers in S phase. Compared to the control group, an obvious decrease of MRP1, GST, BCL-2 and an increase of TOPO-II were shown in TMP groups with a dose-dependency in mRNA and protein levels. However, there was no difference on LRP expression between TMP groups and the control group. TMP could effectively reverse MDR of Pumc-91/ADM and T24/DDP cells and its mechanisms might be correlated with the alteration of MRP1, GST, BCL-2 and TOPO-II. TMP might be a potential candidate for reversing drug resistance in bladder cancer chemotherapy.

The process of recycling lithium (Li) from common coal fly ash using strong acids can release substantial quantities of hazardous low-value residues, and the complex ionic composition of the acidic leaching solution hinders the selective extraction of Li. Accordingly, a green and economical approach was developed for the selective recovery of Li and extraction of valuable Al-rich residues from high-alumina fly ash (HAFA). In HAFA, the glass phase (the main Li-bearing phase) can be selectively dissolved in the mild NaOH solution at 95 °C for 2 h, and valuable mullite phase (the main Al-bearing phase) was retained in the leaching residue (Al 2 O 3 content 49.00 wt%). The leaching efficiencies of Li, Si, and Al were 91.60%, 43.19%, and 3.56%, respectively. Among the primary metallic elements present in HAFA, only Li, Na, K, and Al in the glass phase were readily dissolved in the alkaline solution. Meanwhile, the synergistic extraction system of HBTA and TOPO has good complexing ability with Li + compared to Al 3+ , K + , and Na + . Therefore, Li + can be selectively extracted from alkaline leaching solutions using HBTA and TOPO. The Li extraction efficiency reached 99.68% after three consecutive extractions under the optimal conditions. Finally, the used alkali leaching solution and synergistic extractants can be regenerated via Ca(OH) 2 precipitation and HCl reverse extraction. These findings can provide new strategies for the green and overall utilization of HAFA.

Herein, for the first time, a ternary natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) was synthesized from nerol, menthol and formic acid, and was modulated by surfactant trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO). A novel hollow fiber liquid–liquid–liquid microextraction method based on the NADES (SM-NADES-HF-LLLME) was proposed to enrich trace bisphenols (BPs) residues in water and subsequently detected by HPLC. The modulation of NADES with TOPO significantly improved the extraction efficiency (average enrichment factor) of BPs by 51.6 %. After performing single-factor optimization, a Plackett-Burman design was carried out to screen out four key factors, which were further optimized and evaluated by a central composite design. Under the optimal extraction conditions, the proposed method exhibited good linear relationship in the ranges of 0.36–400 μg L −1 ( r 2 >0.9994). The limits of detection (LODs) at three times ratio of signal to noise ( S/N = 3) and limits of quantification (LOQs, S/N = 10) for bisphenol A, bisphenol E, bisphenol F and bisphenol S were ranged from 0.11 to 0.49 and 0.36–1.62 μg L −1 , respectively. The intra-day and inter-day precisions ( n = 6) were less than 4.1 % with enrichment factors ranged from 173 to 192. Bisphenol A with concentration of 4.42–13.71 µg/L was detected in real water samples with good recoveries (90.4–105.6 %). The proposed SM-NADES-HF-LLLME/HPLC method proved to be a green alternative for the determination of bisphenoic compounds in environmental waters.

A novel type of modified pyrolytic carbon (TOPO@PyC) was successfully prepared through incorporating tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO). The adsorption behavior of TOPO@PyC for Th (IV) under strongly acidic conditions was investigated. The TOPO@PyC exhibited rapid Th(IV) adsorption rate with equilibrium time of 40 min. In 0.1–8 mol/l HNO 3 , the Th(IV) adsorption capacity reached between 43 and 50 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics and adsorption process of TOPO@PyC for Th(IV) can be well explained through the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isothermal adsorption model. The temperature exhibited only a minor influence on Th(IV) adsorption capacity. The microstructure and adsorption mechanism of TOPO@PyC was characterized and elucidated through various techniques including SEM-EDS, BET, TGA, FT-IR, XPS and DFT calculations. By coordinating with O atom on TOPO, Th(IV) was successfully complexed on TOPO@PyC in a ratio of 1:3. Furthermore, TOPO@PyC manifested good thermal stability and acid resistance. After five times, the Th(IV) adsorption and desorption efficiency of TOPO@PyC still exceeded 95 %. Additionally, TOPO@PyC exhibited stronger selectivity towards Th(IV) from mixed solutions. Remarkably, it recovered over 90 % of thorium and uranium from the leachate of tantalum slag. Consequently, TOPO@PyC holds considerable promise in the treatment of strongly acidic wastewater containing thorium and uranium.
