The environmentally friendly recycling of end-of-life (EoL) photovoltaic modules is a crucial pathway to achieving “carbon neutrality.” However, currently, most efforts are primarily focused on the recovery of valuable metals, neglecting the utilization of TPT (Tedlar/PET/Tedlar) plastic backsheet. This work develops a two-stage pyrolysis process for TPT decomposition and which can convert into high-value nanocarbon materials and hydrogen under the catalysis of Ni and Fe nanometal particles. The pyrolysis behavior of TPT backplates was systematically investigated, the gas chromatography results reveal that the pyrolysis products primarily consisted of CO 2 , CO, CH 4 , CH 3 CHO, and other small molecules, alongside sizeable residual compounds under the catalytic degradation process. The resulting hydrocarbons play an important role as carbon sources in the formation of carbon nanomaterials and hydrogen generation. The study thoroughly discusses the effects of different catalyst on pyrolysis gas species and components, fixed carbon content, and nanocarbon morphology. Molecular dynamics simulations based on the reactive force field (ReaxFF) was performed to analyze the pyrolysis products. Finally, a gas–liquid-solid physical model was proposed to interpret the growth process of the carbon nanomaterials under Ni-Fe nanometallic catalysis.

Triphenyltin (TPT) is an organotin compound frequently detected in coastal estuaries, yet studies on TPT's effects in regions with significant salinity fluctuations, such as coastal estuaries, are currently limited. To investigate the toxic effects of TPT under different salinity conditions, this study focused on marine medaka ( Oryzias melastigma ) embryos. Through early morphological observations, RNA-seq analysis, biochemical marker assays, and qPCR detection, we explored the impact of TPT exposure on the early embryonic development of marine medaka under varying salinities. The study found that TPT exposure significantly increased embryo mortality at salinities of 0 ppt and 30 ppt. RNA-seq analysis revealed that TPT primarily affects glucose metabolism and glycogen synthesis processes in embryos. Under high salinity conditions, TPT may inhibit glucose metabolism by suppressing glycolysis and promoting gluconeogenesis. Furthermore, TPT exposure under different salinities led to the downregulation of genes associated with the insulin signaling pathway ( ins , insra , irs2b , pik3ca , pdk1b , akt1 , foxo1a ), which may be linked to suppressed glucose metabolism and increased embryonic mortality. In summary, TPT exposure under different salinities affects the early development of marine medaka embryos and inhibits glucose metabolism. This study provides additional data to support research on organotin compounds in coastal estuaries.

Carbon-based CsPbI2Br perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) have attracted significant attention as promising candidates for solar energy conversion due to their optimal bandgap, stability, and ease of fabrication. However, surface and grain boundary defects in CsPbI2Br contribute to significant non-radiative recombination and energy loss, while the energy level mismatch between the carbon electrode and CsPbI2Br exacerbates open-circuit voltage (Voc) loss, limiting photovoltaic performance. To address these challenges, 3-(trifluoromethyl)phenylthiourea (3-TPT) and 4-(trifluoromethyl)phenylthiourea (4-TPT) were introduced as interfacial modifiers. The functional groups in 3-TPT and 4-TPT, including CS, –CF3, and –NH2, effectively passivated cationic and anionic defects, reducing defect density and suppressing non-radiative recombination. Additionally, isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solutions of 3-TPT and 4-TPT promoted secondary crystallization and grain reorganization, resulting in larger grains and denser boundaries, which significantly enhanced the CsPbI2Br crystal quality. Furthermore, 3-TPT and 4-TPT modulated the band structure of CsPbI2Br, improving the energy level alignment with the carbon electrode and minimizing energy loss. The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of C-PSCs modified with 3-TPT and 4-TPT reached 13.78% and 14.15%, respectively, compared to 12.18% for the unmodified device. The –CF3 groups in 3-TPT and 4-TPT enhanced the hydrophobicity of CsPbI2Br, effectively mitigating moisture ingress. After 500 h in a humid environment (30% relative humidity), the modified devices retained 81.8% and 85.7% of their initial PCE, significantly outperforming the 50.6% retention of the unmodified device. This study demonstrates a simple and effective approach to improving both the efficiency and long-term stability of carbon-based CsPbI2Br solar cells.

A tris(DOPO-grafted piperazine)-triazine phosphoramide (DOPO-TPT) was synthesized, and its structure was well characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. DOPO-TPT was used as a flame retardant additive to modify the epoxy resin to obtain a series of flame retardant epoxy thermosets. The effects of DOPO-TPT on the thermomechanical properties, thermal stability and flame retardancy of the resulting epoxy thermosets were investigated. The results showed that when the addition of DOPO-TPT was 5 mass% (phosphorus content was 0.47 mass%), the limiting oxygen index of the epoxy thermoset reached 30.0%, and it passed the UL-94 V-0 classification. Compared with unmodified epoxy resin, the maximum heat release rate and total heat release of EP/DOPO-TPT-5.0 decreased by 28% and 20%, respectively. Additionally, the presence of DOPO-TPT did not deteriorate the thermomechanical properties of the resulting epoxy thermosets. TG-FTIR test confirmed that the incorporation of DOPO-TPT could significantly inhibit the release of gaseous products. The char layer analysis results showed that DOPO-TPT had good catalytic charring performance, which was conducive to decreasing the escape of combustible gas during combustion, thus improving the flame retardancy.

Separation of the mixture of ethylene (C2H4) and ethane (C2H6) to produce polymer-grade C2H4 is of prime importance in the petrochemical industry. In this context, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) featuring tunable pore metrics and surface chemistry, especially those with inverse C2H6/C2H4 adsorption selectivity, hold great promise in energy-effective purification of C2H4 by adsorptive separation, but often encounter the well-known trade-off between adsorption selectivity and capacity. In this work, we report two new MOFs by deploying the pore-space-partition (PSP) strategy for the purpose of reducing the pore aperture size while retaining the gas-accessible pore volume. As a result, Ni-bodc-tpt (bodc = bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid, tpt = 2,4,6-tri(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) by combining optimal pore size, large cage pore volume, and rich C–H binding sites exhibits concurrently high C2H6 adsorption capacity (131.65 cm3 g−1) and C2H6/C2H4 selectivity (1.8) at 298 K and 1 bar, which is superior or comparable to many benchmark C2H6-selective MOFs. A dynamic breakthrough experiment demonstrates that high-purity C2H4 (>99.9%) can be harvested in one step from a binary mixture of C2H6/C2H4 (50/50, v/v), attesting to the feasibility of this new MOF as a prospective C2H4 purification agent.

Organotin compounds (OTs) act as potent endocrine disruptors that are often found in polluted food and water. UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) are responsible for termination of multiple endogenous hormones. This study was conducted to investigate the inhibitory effects of two tri-submitted OTs tributyltin (TBT) and triphenyltin (TPT), against activities of UGTs. It is revealed that TBT and TPT act as two potent inhibitors for multiple UGTs. UGT1A8 and -2B15 were coinhibited by the two OTs. UGT1A1 and -1A10 were inhibited by TPT, whereas UGT 2B4 and -2B7 were inhibited by TBT. Kinetic analyses further indicated that TBT and TPT are two competitive nanomolar inhibitors of UGT2B15, with K i values of 0.45 and 0.46 μM, respectively. K i values for the other UGTs are determined to be a few micromolars. In addition, the two OTs displayed effective inhibition against UGT2B15 in catalyzing dihydrotestosterone glucuronidation, with IC50 values both in nano-molar range. TPT can additionally inhibit activities of UGT1A1 and -1A10 in estradiol-3-O-glucuronidation, with IC50 values of a few micro-molars. These results indicated that the two OTs can extensively interfere with glucuronidation of endogenous hormones, which may act as a new potential mechanism resulting in endocrine disrupting actions.

Triphenyltin (TPT) is a widely used biocide known for its high toxicity to various organisms, including humans, and its potential contribution to environmental pollution. The aging process leads to progressive deterioration of physiological functions in the elderly, making them more susceptible to the toxic effects of environmental pollutants. This study aimed to investigate the mitigating effect of fecal transplantation in young mice on the toxicological impairment caused by TPT exposure. For the study, 18-month-old mice were divided into four groups with six replicates each. The control group was fed a basal diet, the TPT group was exposed to 3.75 mg/Kg TPT, the feces group received fecal transplantation from 8-week-old young mice, and the combined group was exposed to 3.75 mg/Kg TPT after receiving fecal transplantation. Compared with the elderly control group, TPT induced significant upregulation of mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory factors ( IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α ), while the anti-inflammatory factor gene IL-10 was significantly suppressed. The mRNA expression of intestinal barrier proteins ( Claudin, Occludin, Muc2 ) was also significantly downregulated. However, fecal transplantation in young mice alleviated TPT-induced changes in inflammatory factors, ameliorated oxidative stress, and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes (including SOD, CAT, GSH-Px). Further analysis using 16 s RNA showed that exposure to TPT led to changes in the composition of the intestinal flora. Untargeted metabolomics observations of feces from older mice revealed that exposure to TPT resulted in altered fecal metabolites. Fecal transplantation in young mice altered the microbiota of TPT-exposed older mice, especially by enhancing the levels of core probiotics. Similar beneficial effects were observed through untargeted metabolomics. Overall, this study highlights the potential benefits of young fecal transplantation in protecting the elderly from the toxicity of TPT, offering a promising approach to improve healthy aging.

Triphenyltin (TPT), an organic compound with a wide range of applications, is often detected in water bodies and aquatic animals. However, the mechanism underlying the biological metabolic health problems caused by long-term exposure to environment concentrations of TPT remains unclear. The morphology and gene expression in the gut and liver were investigated; and 16SrRNA gene amplification sequencing and non-targeted LC-MS/MS metabonomics were investigated after marine medaka ( Oryzias melastigma ) was treated with 1, 10, and 100 ng/L TPT for 21 days. During prolonged exposure to TPT, the adaptation mechanism maximized the energy of absorption, increased the length of intestinal microvilli, reduced the number of rough endoplasmic reticulum in the liver, and caused loss of weight. TPT exposure significantly changed the intestinal microbiome of marine medaka, thereby resulting in a significant decrease in microbial diversity. Following exposure to 100 ng/L TPT, the metabolic profiles were significantly changed and the altered metabolites were mainly concentrated in the lipid metabolic pathway. Finally, based on comprehensive network analysis, the association between the significantly changed bacteria and metabolites contributed further to the prediction of the impact of TPT on the host. This study provides a novel insight into the underlying mechanisms of host metabolic diseases caused by TPT and emphasizes the importance of monitoring pollutants in the environment.

Triphenyltin (TPT), a widely used environmental contaminant in antifouling paints, is known for its neurotoxic effects. To investigate the multigenerational impacts of long-term exposure (6 weeks) to environmental concentrations of TPT (100 ng/L) on either parent, we performed mixed mating between control and exposed groups (males or females). Although there was no direct contact with TPT in the subsequent generations, both the first and second generations displayed behavioral abnormalities, including reduced activity and impaired cognitive function, with pronounced gender differences and anxiety-like behaviors. Females were more susceptible than males, displaying a significantly increased time spent in the mirror-proximal zone in both F1 and F2 generations. Additionally, F0 females exhibited a marked reduction in the time spent in the bright area, further supporting the role of sex differences in behavioral responses. Notably, the maternal contribution of marine medaka ( Oryzias melastigma ) played a more significant role in the inheritance of TPT-induced cognitive deficits. A reduction in DA levels and AChE activity was observed across generations, regardless of gender, underscoring the critical role of DA-AChE balance in maintaining cognitive function. Additionally, gender differences and the hereditary effects of TPT exposure on anxiety-like behaviors were strongly associated with the transcriptional regulation of pparγ and gst . Impaired transcription of key genes in the dopaminergic system resulted in reduced DA levels, with the intergenerational transmission of mao being closely linked to behavioral impairments. In summary, TPT-induced neurotoxicity presents both hereditary effects and gender-specific differences, emphasizing the maternal influence in the inheritance of cognitive abilities and shedding light on the genetic impact of parental exposure.

Sediments function as a secondary and significant source of tributyltin (TBT) and triphenyltin (TPT) in aquatic ecosystems and may pose a potential threat on benthic organisms and human health. The subchronic toxicity of sediment-associated TBT or TPT to snails Bellamya aeruginosa at environmentally relevant concentrations was investigated in this study. Multiple endpoints at the biochemical [ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), protein carbonyl content (PCC) and lipid peroxidation (LPO)] and transcriptomic levels were examined.TBT or TPT in sediment could induce antioxidant enzymes’ activities and result in oxidative damage in the hepatopancreas of B. aeruginosa after 28-day exposure. A transcriptomic profile of B. aeruginosa exposed to TBT and TPT was reported. CYP genes and EROD activity were sensible and reliable biomarkers for toxicity assessment of TBT or TPT in sediments. Comparative pathway analysis revealed the alteration of steroid hormone biosynthesis and retinol metabolism in B. aeruginosa after 90-day exposure to sediment-associated TBT at the concentration of 2000 ng/g dw, which might affect both reproduction and lipogenesis functions. The ubiquitin proteasome system and immune system might be the toxicity target in B. aeruginosa after exposure to sediment-associated TPT for 90 days. The results offered new mechanisms underlying the toxicity of sediment-associated tributyltin and triphenyltin.
