Charge-transfer complexes (CTC) exhibit promising application in scientific field. A prototype CTC (TTF-TCNQ), formed by charge donating (tetrathiafulvalene) and charge accepting (tetracyanoquinodimethane) molecule, was systematically studied by Raman method. By combining Raman and synchrony X-ray diffraction (XRD), we investigated the high-pressure structures of TTF-TCNQ up to 15 GPa, and did not observe any first-order phase transition. Finally, a detailed evolution of structure for TTF-TCNQ, versus pressure, is provided, offering a new pathway to investigate the structural stability of CTC.
Elemetal doping is an efficient strategy to adjust the microstructue and electronic property of a carbon material, as a result, shows great potential in the design of novel electromagnetic absorption (EMA) materials. In this work, we report an useful strategy to prepare a N,S co-doped carbon (NSC) using TTF-TCNQ as the precusor, and systematically explore its frequency-depedent dielectric and EMA properties. Different N/S ratios can be tuned by the regulation of pyrolitic temperature. The derived NSC exhibits wonderful EMA performance when the pyrolytic temperature is setted to 700 ℃ with loading ratio of 35 wt%. Efficient absorption can be achieved in the frequency range of 6.4–18 GHz. Moreover, it is determined that the efficient absorption bandwidth gets to 6.5 GHz, while the maximal absorption reaches −46 dB. The EMA mechanism of NSC is considered to be mainly contributed by improved impedance matching realized by macropores, enhanced conductance loss caused by well constructed condutive network, and polarization by N,S doping. This research provides a new idea for development of novel carbon materials for EMA applicaion.

Integration and synergy of the unique functions of different components have been developed into one of the most convenient and effective ways to construct the composite advanced materials with collective properties and improved performances. In this work, the mace-like tetrathiafulvalene-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TTF-TCNQ)/HKUST-1 composite structures with single single-crystalline TTF-TCNQ submicrorods covered by ordered HKUST-1 nanosheet arrays were successfully constructed by an efficient TTF-TCNQ seed-mediated growth approach. Impressively, thanks to the synergetic and complementary effects between TTF-TCNQ and HKUST-1, the sensors based on such mace-like TTF-TCNQ/HKUST-1 composite structures not only displayed an experimental detection limit of 10 part per billion (ppb) for NO 2 detection, but also exhibited outstanding selectivity even if the concentration of the interfering gases was 10 times that of NO 2 . Meanwhile, good reproducibility and rapid response were also achieved. This work opens the avenue for creation of novel high-performance sensing materials for application in gas sensing.
