Tb 4 O 7 nanopowders were synthesized by the precipitation method using ammonium hydrogen carbonate (AHC) as the precipitant. The influence of calcination temperature on the properties of Tb 4 O 7 powders was investigated by FTIR, XRD and FESEM. It is found that 1000 °C is the optimum calcination temperature for Tb 4 O 7 powders used for fabrication of Tb 3 Al 5 O 12 (TAG) transparent ceramics, and the average particle size of the 1000 °C-calcined powder is about 150 nm. Using the 800 to 1100 °C-calcined Tb 4 O 7 powders as raw materials, TAG transparent ceramics were fabricated by vacuum sintering at 1700 °C for 20 h. The sample sintered from 1000 °C-calcined Tb 4 O 7 powders shows the best transparency, and its in-line transmittance is above 55% in the 500–1480 nm region, reaching 58.3% at the wavelength of 633 nm. The microstructures and the magneto-optical properties of the TAG ceramics sintered from 800 to 1100 °C-calcined Tb 4 O 7 powders were also studied.
Fluorescent glass shows promising applications in solar cell covers with high mechanical properties and effective wavelength conversion. By high-temperature feeding melting-pouring-annealing integration synthetic technique, (58-x)B 2 O 3 -25La 2 O 3 -8.5CaO-3.5ZnO-3SiO 2 -xTb 4 O 7 (x = 2–9 mol%) glass was fabricated to examine the impact of Tb 4 O 7 concentration. These glasses exhibited high thermal stability (T g > 670 °C), along with excellent optical properties, including a refractive index >1.7 and transmittance reaching 85%. The fluorescent properties optimized through excitation spectroscopy, emission spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime measurement and auxiliary XPS testing, which demonstrated that 3 mol % Tb concentration of sample yielded the most favorable results. Micro-area fluorescence testing revealed that the coefficient of variation of the fluorescence intensity integral was 1.65%, indicating the sample had decent fluorescence uniformity. These results provided important guidance for the design of fluorescent glasses with superior service performance and luminescent properties.

In this paper, a series of high performance near-infrared reflective pigments based on Bi 3 YO 6 doped with Fe 2 O 3 and Tb 4 O 7 were prepared by high-temperature calcination method. The pigments were characterized by some analytic techniques, such as XRD , Particle size analyzer, SEM, EDS , UV–vis–NIR spectrophotometer, CIE L*a*b* (1976) color space and infrared thermal imaging. Experimental results showed that the Fe 2 O 3 doping in Bi 3 YO 6 could change the color from bright yellow to ochre red. The substitution of Tb (IV)-doped pigments changed the color to dark orange. The doping of Fe (III) and Tb (IV) contributed to enriching the color diversities of pigments. Among the synthesized pigments, Bi 3-x Fe x YO 6 and Bi 3 Y 1-x Tb x O 6+δ displayed a disordered defective fluorite-type structure. The effect of doping Fe (III) and Tb (IV) reduced the near-infrared reflectance of the pigment. Excepting for Bi 3-x Fe x YO 6 (x = 0.8), the near infrared reflectance of some other pigments were higher than the China National standard (CNs). Chemical resistance tests showed that the pigments had excellent acid and alkali resistance. Finally, the application practical of traditional iron oxide yellow pigment and three prepared pigments, i.e., Bi 3 YO 6 , Bi 3-x Fe x YO 6 (x = 0.4) and Bi 3 Y 1-x Tb x O 6+δ (x = 0.05) were studied and compared by infrared thermal imaging. The test results showed that Bi 3 YO 6 still had a strong near-infrared reflection effect after being painted. Compared with traditional iron yellow pigment, Bi 3 YO 6 could reduce the surface temperature of galvanized sheet by 20 °C under the illumination of infrared light. The series of Fe (III) and Tb (IV) doped pigments prepared in this paper have revealed some promising application values.
