The icing phenomenon in nature can cause serious economic losses and security concerns. Eco-friendly anti-icing and deicing surfaces have been developed to address these issues. In this study, a photothermal superhydrophobic coating was fabricated by a facile polymerization process in the presence of micro–nano structured SiO2/TiN particles followed by a two-step spraying technology. The optimal coating displays remarkable superhydrophobic performance with a water contact angle of 159.1° and a water roll-off angle as low as 1.2°; it survives tape peeling, Taber abrasion, and solution immersion and demonstrates weather and corrosion resistance. More importantly, the SiO2/TiN coating shows excellent anti-icing/deicing property and can withstand multiple icing/thawing cycles. The excellent anti-icing/deicing performance is attributed to the robust superhydrophobic surface and the photothermal effect of TiN nanoparticles. Our fluorine-free design strategy provides important guidance for actual large-scale eco-friendly anti-icing/deicing application.

The endothermic hydrocarbon fuel catalytic cracking as an active cooling technology for aircraft engines needs to provide a higher heat sink to absorb more heat and at the same time produce less carbon deposits to ensure the continuous operation of the aircraft. In this paper, Ni nanoparticles embedded into SiO 2 aerogel is achieved by two different method, col-gel (Ni-co) and after impregnation (Ni-after) and firstly introduced to achieve high heat adsorption capability and low coke generation in the fuel cracking process through ethanol-assisted and TiN coating technology . The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and contact angle test results show that aerogel catalysts are modified successfully with excellent hydrophobicity and lipophilicity which indicates that aerogel catalysts could be well dispersed in n -decane. According to the SEM and N 2 adsorption-desorption, Ni-after remains similar three-dimensional structure with SiO 2 aerogel and shows better pore structure which result in higher cracking activity (4.04 MJ/kg at 750 °C, 3.5 MPa) than Ni-co. Furthermore, the most efficient coke inhibition in supercritical catalytic cracking of n -decane is achieved by incorporating a little ethanol over TiN coating and high catalytic activity could be maintained within 50 min at 750 °C, 3.5 MPa and the coke generation is decreased by more than 90.0% (9.67–0.42 mg/cm 2 ·g) compared with Ni-after catalytic cracking.
The core/shell nano-TiN-coated Al powders (TiN/Al) were prepared and added into A356 alloy by ultrasonic-assisted casting method in this work. The results show that TiN/Al has a better dispersion in A356 matrix and a stronger strengthening effect than TiN without the core/shell structure. With the addition of TiN/Al, most of the coarse primary α-Al dendrites of A356 turn into equiaxial. After T6 heat treatment, it is found that eutectic silicon in A356 with TiN/Al becomes columnar or globular in shape and smaller in size, which causes a greatly enhanced elongation of 11.7%. The results also suggest that the addition of nanoparticles can affect the precipitation behaviors and change the shapes and sizes of the precipitation.
