The increasing demand for improving the performance of optical devices and the development of nanotechnology have driven research on diffusion films. The preparation of diffusion films with well-defined microstructures can achieve uniform diffusion and scattering of light, thereby improving the efficiency and performance of optical devices. In this study, diffusion films with high transmittance and haze were prepared using PMMA@TiO2@SiO2 (P@T@S) composite microspheres, and the PMMA microspheres and nanoparticles were combined through electrostatic attraction. As compared with PMMA microspheres, the P@T@S composite microspheres displayed better heat resistance as well as swelling resistance. Optical performance data showed that the P@T@S diffusion film had the perfect optical performance with a transmittance up to 90.5% and a haze of 88.3%. The excellent light diffusion effect of the P@T@S diffusion film was experimentally demonstrated, with the light through the film not only displaying the largest area but also maintaining a relatively high brightness. Our findings can provide reference and guidance for further development of light diffusion films, which are of potential application in optoelectronic devices.
In recent years, optical diffusion film materials with high transmittance and high haze have been widely reported, while there is relatively rare research on their functionalization and practical application especially in real scenario. In this work, optical diffusion films using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)@TiO 2 @SiO 2 (P@T@S) composite microspheres were fabricated, which exhibited sufficiently high light transmittance and haze. The binding mode of PMMA microspheres and nanoparticles suggested that PMMA microspheres with a positive surface potential combined with nanoparticles with a negative surface potential through electrostatic attraction to achieve mutual binding. The prepared P@T@S composite microspheres showed better heat and swelling resistance than those of PMMA microspheres. The P@T@S diffusion film, whose excellent light diffusion effect was clearly demonstrated, exhibited the best optical performance among all optical diffusion films prepared. After passing through the P@T@S diffusion film, the laser light was not only uniform but also bright. The findings from this work can provide some insight into further research on optical diffusion films applied in optoelectronic device areas.

TiO 2 @SiO 2 composite microspheres (TS) were prepared by the deposition of TiO 2 on the raspberry-like SiO 2 @polystyrene microspheres (PSS). The hollow microspheres with hierarchical microtopography possess both improved photocatalytic activity and stabilized TiO 2 particle structure. The results of energy dispersion spectrum (EDS) mapping, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that after calcination, anatase TiO 2 nanoparticles has formed on the raspberry-like PSS template with preferred deposition among interstitials of the drupelet-like structure. The thermal degradation of the polystyrene (PS) core during calcination led to the hollow microspheres. The photocatalytic experiments indicated that the raspberry-like TiO 2 @SiO 2 composite microspheres (TS1-TS3) had higher photocatalytic efficiency than the smooth ones (TS0), due to the hierarchical and hollow structure. The sample TS2 prepared with a moderate ammonia concentration (3 %) not only had relatively more intact hollow spherical structure, but also enhanced photocatalytic activity. The hollow TiO 2 @SiO 2 composite microspheres (TS3) prepared with 4 % ammonia showed the best photocatalytic efficiency. However, the higher ammonia concentration made the drupelet-like structure unstable and the microspheres tend to disintegrate. The raspberry-like microstructure showed a protective effect on the loaded TiO 2 , which resulted in better recyclability with persistent photocatalytic activity. The hierarchical composite microspheres shed light on the potential effective utilization strategy of nano-photocatalyst.
