Fully utilizing the unique characteristics of COFs in surface-modified membranes is an ongoing research focus. Current challenges include ensuring the stability of the COFs separation layer on the membrane surface and developing environmentally friendly production methods for COFs surface-modified membranes. In this study, a simple room-temperature synthesis method was employed to prepare an aqueous colloidal solution of TpPa-SO 3 H. Subsequently, TpPa-SO 3 H nanosheets were loaded onto a hydrophobic PVDF membrane using vacuum filtration, resulting in the TpPa-SO 3 H/PVDF membrane. This green and efficient modification method yielded a defect-free TpPa-SO 3 H layer on the membrane surface, exhibiting excellent hydrophilicity (water contact angle of 50.8°). For dye separation, the TpPa-SO 3 H/PVDF membrane (F2) demonstrated high rejection rates (>98 %) for most dye molecules, along with good recyclability and filtration stability. Even after exposure to extreme acidic conditions, the separation performance of the modified membrane remains consistent, showcasing remarkable acid resistance. Furthermore, the prepared modified membranes exhibited effective photocatalytic degradation of various dyes (>90 %) as well as excellent stability and reusability. The modified membrane has shown significant self-cleaning effects in the three cycles of photocatalytic self-cleaning performance testing. This effectively demonstrates its potential in the domain of photocatalytic self-cleaning, exhibiting its capabilities and viability in the respective field.

Layer-by-layer assembled covalent organic framework membranes were fabricated by alternately depositing negatively charged TpPa-SO 3 H and positively charged TpEB nanosheets onto a pretreated nylon support via vacuum filtration. The resulting TpPa- SO 3 H/TpEB composite formed a compact selective layer stabilized by electrostatic attraction and π-π stacking. By optimizing the layer number and deposition density, the bilayer membrane achieved 99.3% Congo Red rejection with a permeance of 86.0 L m -2 h -1 bar -1 and >99% rejection for multiple dyes, with a molecular weight cutoff of 461.38 Da.

With the increasing severity of urban heat islands, personal thermal management (PTM) has emerged as a critical solution for maintaining human thermophysiological comfort in dynamic environments. Traditional air conditioning systems are energy-intensive and lack individualized control, highlighting the need for efficient, low-energy PTM strategies. Current PTM materials often operate in static modes, limiting their adaptability to varying conditions. To overcome this, we developed a Janus-structured humidity-photothermal actuator (TpPa-SO₃H/Ag@M) by integrating a TpPa-SO₃H covalent organic framework (COF) for rapid water transport and a silver nanoparticle (AgNP)-intercalated MXene (Ag@M) for humidity gradient formation and enhanced photothermal conversion. The COF layer facilitates moisture accumulation, while the Ag@M laminar structure delays water diffusion, enabling a sensitive humidity response. AgNPs expand the MXene interlayer spacing, improving water uptake and response efficiency by triple compared to initial TpPa-SO₃H/MXene systems, while also preventing structural collapse during cycling. Additionally, AgNPs enables strong solar absorption, boosting photothermal performance. Under combined humidity and light stimulation, the Janus actuator exhibits dynamic bending, enabling autonomous sweat evaporation and body temperature regulation without external energy input. This dual-responsive design offers a promising approach for adaptive, energy-efficient PTM in extreme environments.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have become potential candidates for gas purification technology, especially in carbon capture and storage applications. By utilizing strategies such as pore structure design and functional modification, COFs have been developed to exhibit high selectivity and superior adsorption capacity for the effective capture and separation of CO2 from industrial waste gases. Notably, alkali metals exhibit strong interactions with the backbone of the COFs, which can enhance the CO2/N2 adsorption separation performance of these porous materials. This study details the synthesis of two-dimensional COF materials modified with acidic groups (TpPa-COOH and TpPa-SO3H) via mechanical grinding. Alkali metals such as Na, Li, and K were introduced into these groups through simple ion exchange reactions, thereby creating metal-modified COF materials. The impact of various alkali metals on the CO2/N2 adsorption separation performance of COF materials was investigated. Among the resulting products, lithiated TpPa-COOH showed the highest CO2 capture capacity of 2.65 mmol/g at 273 K and 1 bar. This may be due to the smaller atomic size of Li that offers larger adsorption space. Under the same conditions, the K-modified TpPa-SO3H exhibited the highest selectivity of 548, which surpasses most COFs reported in the literature. The superior performance was caused by the high polarization of the COF backbone triggered by the alkali metals. The inference was further confirmed by computational simulations. This work provides a facile method for the modification of porous materials with alkali metals to achieve superior gas separation performance.

Fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs) are a class of antibiotic pollutants of global concern for water due to their high chemical stability and low biodegradability, leading to long-term residues. In this study, a novel composite material composed of metal-organic framework (MOF) and covalent organic framework (COF), ZIF-8@TpPa-SO 3 H, was designed for the selective adsorption of quinolones and synthesized using ultrasonic method. The adsorption kinetics, isotherms, thermodynamics and influencing factors of ZIF-8@TpPa-SO 3 H towards three FQs, including enoxacin, norfloxacin, and ciprofloxacin, were investigated. Characterized by an abundant pore structure and uniform element distribution, the composite exhibited a specific surface area of 34.25 m²/g and an optimized pore size distribution of 15.72 nm. The adsorption selectivity experiment showed that ZIF-8@TpPa-SO 3 H achieved a removal rate of over 90% for FQs, which was significantly higher than those of other types of antibiotics. The adsorption of FQs on ZIF-8@TpPa-SO 3 H followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and chemisorption was the predominant mechanism. The maximum adsorption capacities for enoxacin, norfloxacin, and ciprofloxacin were 595.4, 566.4, and 568.6 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding were the main adsorption mechanisms. Density functional theory calculations and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis further confirmed that selective adsorption is synergistically enhanced by electrostatic interactions between piperazine and sulfonic acid groups and C-H⋯π interactions of the FQs. Additionally, the composite maintained a removal rate above 85% after 8 adsorption-desorption cycles, demonstrating its good applicability. It also exhibited satisfactory applicability in treating water samples from different sources. This study provides a theoretical and practical foundation for the development of efficient and recyclable FQ adsorbents.
