Enhanced Lithium Storage Performance of Liquid-Phase Exfoliated Graphene Supported WS2 Heterojunctions

Jianhui Li,Haiting Yan,Wei Wei,Xifei Li,Lingjie Meng

Graphical An advanced TMDs heterojunction : A WS 2 heterojunction based on liquid-phase exfoliated graphene (LEGr@WS 2 ) is synthesized by a one-pot microwave-assisted solvothermal method. Benefiting from the two-dimensional hierarchical structures and good interfacial contact between WS 2 and LEGr sheets, the LEGr@WS 2 heterojunction exhibits good rate capability and cycling stability as anode material for lithium-ion batteries. To improve the electrical conductivity and the cycling stability of layered transition metal disulfides (TMDs) as lithium-ion battery anode, graphene@WS 2 heterojunction composites are prepared by a facile one-pot process, involving liquid-phase exfoliation of graphene in N -methylpyrrolidone, followed by in-situ growth of WS 2 in the graphene dispersion induced by a microwave-assisted solvothermal method. The liquid-phase exfoliated graphene (LEGr) with exceptional atomic structure not only serves as a substrate to couple WS 2 , but also serves as a mini-current collector for the rapid transport of electrons within the anode. The LEGr-based heterojunction WS 2 composites exhibit improved lithium storage performance compared to the counterpart based on graphene oxide (GO), including higher lithium storage capacity, superior rate capability and outstanding cycling stability. This protocol enables processing and construction of advanced TMD heterojunction electrodes based on LEGr using an economical pathway.

Multi-perspective synergistic construction of dual-functional heterostructures for high-temperature Li-S batteries

Yiding Li,Qiang Zhang,Simin Shen,Siqi Wang,Liangliang Shi,Dequan Liu,Yujun Fu,Deyan He

Effectively limiting the shuttle effect is the key to improving the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries. Here, the synthesis of WO 3 -WS 2 heterostructures is reported by electrospinning and in situ sulfurization strategies, combining the initial WO 3 nanoparticles with the sulfurization product WS 2 . It was found that the obtained bifunctional heterostructures enhance the electrolyte wettability, optimize intermediate regulation performance, accelerate Li + /e − diffusion, and thus exhibit excellent electrochemical characteristics in Li-S batteries. Through experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the WO 3 -WS 2 heterostructures were considered as a coupled creative solution with multiple advantages. Different from the batteries using single-component or single-configuration catalyst, the prepared Li-S batteries with the WO 3 -WS 2 heterostructures exhibited synergistic enhanced electrochemical performance and high-temperature crushing resistance. Even under severe conditions, including high sulfur loading (10.3 mg cm −2 ), lean electrolyte (5.8 μL mg −1 ), high current density (7.0 A g −1 ), extended cycling (1600 cycles), and high temperature (90 °C), the representative battery exhibited stable cycling performance.

Photoelectrochemical Biosensor for DNA Formylation Detection in Genomic DNA of Maize Seedlings Based on Black Tio2-Enhanced Photoactivity of MoS2/WS2 Heterojunction

Fei Li,Siyu Wang,Huanshun Yin,Yan Chen,Yunlei Zhou,Jing Huang,Shiyun Ai

5-Formylcytosine (5fC) is a rare base found in mammalian DNA, which is thought to be involved in the demethylation of DNA. As a stable epigenetic modification, 5fC participates in gene regulation and cell differentiation, and plays an important role in the growth and development of plants. However, the abundance of 5fC is only as low as 0.002–0.02% of cytosine. Therefore, to further understand the functions of 5fC, a rapid, highly sensitive, and efficient method is needed for detecting 5fC. Herein, a novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor was constructed for 5fC detection, where a MoS2/WS2 nanosheet heterojunction was employed as a photoactive material, amino-functionalized Fe3O4 and SMCC were used as a linker, 4-amino-3-hydrazino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole was adopted as 5fC recognition reagent, and black TiO2 (B-TiO2) was used as a signal amplification unit. Under the optimal experimental conditions, this PEC biosensor showed a wide linear range of 0.01–200 nM and a low detection limit of 2.7 pM (S/N = 3). Due to the specific covalent reaction between −NH2 and −CHO, the biosensor presented high detection sensitivity, even discriminating 5fC with 5-methylcytosine and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine. The biosensor was then applied to investigate the effect of heavy metal Cd2+ on 5fC content in the root, stem, and leaves of maize seedlings.

High-Spike Barrier Photodiodes Based on 2D Te/WS2 Heterostructures

Huihui Yu,Yunan Wang,Haoran Zeng,Zhihong Cao,Qinghua Zhang,Li Gao,Mengyu Hong,Xiaofu Wei,Yue Zheng,Zheng Zhang,Xiankun Zhang,Yue Zhang

Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdWs) heterojunctions have been actively investigated in low-power-consumption and fast-response photodiodes owing to their atomically smooth interfaces and ultrafast interfacial charge transfer. However, achieving ultralow dark current and ultrafast photoresponse in the reported photovoltaic devices remains a challenge as the large built-in electric field in a heterojunction can not only speed up photocarrier transport but also increase the minority-carrier dark current. Here, we propose a high-spike barrier photodiode that can achieve both an ultralow dark current and an ultrafast response. The device is fabricated by the Te/WS2 heterojunction, while the band alignment can transition from type-II to type-I with a high electron barrier and a large hole built-in electronic field. The high electron barrier can greatly reduce the drift current of minority carriers and the generation current of the thermal carriers, while the large built-in electronic field can still speed up the photocarrier transport. The designed Te/WS2 vdWs photodiode yields an ultralow dark current of 8 × 10–14 A and an ultrafast photoresponse of 10/13 μs. Furthermore, a high-performance visible-light imager with a pixel resolution of 100 × 40 is demonstrated using the Te/WS2 vdWs photodiode. This work provides a comprehensive understanding of designing 2D-material-based photovoltaics with excellent overall performance.

Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified WS2 microflakes for ammonia detection at room temperature

Qiyilan Guang,Jianwei Zhang,Baoyu Huang,Nan Wang,Xiaogan Li

The WS 2 microflakes heterostructured with n-type Fe 3 O 4 have been explored herein for chemiresistive-type NH 3 sensors at room temperature . The microjunctions formed between the two heteromaterials WS 2 and Fe 3 O 4 effectively modulate the response of the sensor to ammonia. The Fe 3 O 4 /WS 2 heterostructured sensor found a three times higher response relative to the single WS 2 based one. The optimized concentration of Fe 3 O 4 in the heterostructure sample is 0.2 at%. The sensor also indicates an excellent selectivity to several volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, toluene, methanol, ethanol, and acetone . The sensing mechanism of the sensor to NH 3 at room temperature were examined using in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). It reveals that the redox reactions of NH 3 on Fe 3 O 4 /WS 2 were more prominent compared to the WS 2 alone. The enhanced sensitivity of the Fe 3 O 4 /WS 2 based sensor could thus be attributed to the joint effects of both electronic and chemical sensitizations induced by the Fe 3 O 4 /WS 2 heterostructures.
