An in situ photo-Fenton system can continuously generate H2O2by photocatalysis, activating H2O2in situ to form strong oxidizing ·OH radicals and degrading organic pollutants. A WSe2/g-C3N4composite catalyst with WSe2as a co-catalyst was successfully synthesized in this work and used for in situ photo-Fenton oxidation. The WSe2/g-C3N4composite with 7% loading of WSe2(CNW2) has H2O2production of 35.04 μmol/L, which is fourteen times higher than pure g-C3N4. The degradation efficiency of CNW2 for phenol reached 67%. By constructing an in situ Fenton-system, the phenol degradation rate could be further enhanced to 90%. WSe2can enhance the catalytic activity of CNW2 by increasing electron mobility and inhibiting the recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Moreover, the addition of Fe2+activates the generated H2O2, thus increasing the amount of strong oxidative ·OH radicals for the degradation of phenol. Overall, CNW2 is a promising novel material with a high H2O2yield and can directly degrade organic pollutants using an in situ photo-Fenton reaction.Keywords:WSe2/g-C3N4;visible light;in situ photo-Fenton;phenol degradation

The WSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 (graphite carbon nitride) composite with photocatalytic properties was synthesized using a hydrothermal method. This synthesis pathway can be characterized by being simple, inexpensive and nonpolluting, integrating the concept of green chemistry. The WSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 composite could effectively degrade methyl orange solution under visible light irradiation. The decolorization experiment of methyl orange solution shows that the degradation rate of the 30 wt.% WSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 composite can reach 98.7% after 100 min of illumination, while the degradation rate of pure g-C 3 N 4 was only 87.6% under the same conditions. This can be attributed to the fact that the combination of WSe 2 and g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets can increase the number of active binding sites, increasing the rate of charge separation and transport ability, decreasing the recombination rate of the photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Therefore, the WSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 composite will have potential development as a new material with low cost, easy synthesis and excellent performance in photocatalytic degradation of water pollution.
