To address the toxicity and stability issues of traditional lead halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the development of lead-free PSCs, such as Cs2AgBiBr6 solar cells, is of great significance. However, due to the low defect formation energy of Cs2AgBiBr6, a large number of vacancies, including A-site vacancies and X-site vacancies, form during the fabrication process of the Cs2AgBiBr6 film, which seriously damage the performance of the devices. The traditional phenylethylammonium (PEA) cation, mainly focusing on passivating A-site vacancies, is incapable of reducing X-site vacancies and so results in a limited performance improvement in Cs2AgBiBr6 solar cells. Herein, inspired by the capability of the Lewis base to coordinate with metal cations, a series of N-heterocyclic amines are introduced to serve as a dual-site passivator, reducing A-site and X-site vacancies at the same time. The highest power conversion efficiency of modified Cs2AgBiBr6 solar cells has been increased 36% from 1.10 to 1.50%. Further investigation reveals that the higher electron density of additives would lead to a stronger interaction with metal cations like Ag+ and Bi3+, thus reducing more X-site defects and improving carrier dynamics. Our work provides a strategy for passivating perovskite with various kinds of defects and reveals the connection between the coordination capability of additives and device performance enhancement, which could be instructive in improving the performance of lead-free PSCs.

Surface modification engineering is a well-known effective passivation method for making efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, to our knowledge, little attention has been paid to simultaneously passivating the A and X sites of halogen perovskites. Herein, we introduced an organometallic salt (C6H5COO)2Mg (MgBEN) as a passivator, and as a result, the C6H5COOMg+ passivates the A site and C6H5COO− the X site on the perovskite layer, significantly reducing the trap-state density and nonradiative recombination. Moreover, the modification induces the perovskite film quality to improve, which may decrease the charge accumulation and facilitate carrier transport. By optimizing the concentration of the MgBEN, the perovskite film showed an increased grain size (from 1.18 μm to 1.61 μm), and the best device exhibited an enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 22.24%. Meanwhile, the device after modification performed with good long-term stability.

The CO 2 electroreduction reaction using sustainable electricity emerges as a viable strategy to produce high-value-added and profitable chemicals. The achievement of superior activity at a lower overpotential and higher selectivity in a wide potential window is vitally important for large-scale industrial applications. Herein, a carbon-composite amorphous porous BiSbO x nanotube with abundant unsaturated sites is reported to boost the conversion of CO 2 to formate, exhibiting a formate selectivity of >90% in an extremely broad range of potentials from −0.5 to −1.4 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and a maximal energy conversion efficiency of 77.1%. Importantly, pure formic acid solution is directly obtained in a solid-electrolyte cell for industrial-scale applications. The porous tubular structure can expose more catalytic active sites, accelerate the mass transfer, and show fast surface charge transfer. Moreover, the unique coordination-unsaturated Sb-stabilized BiO 8−x site can not only enhance the adsorption and activation of CO 2 but also reasonably balance the stabilization and hydrogenation of *OCHO intermediate, thus leading to its obviously higher catalytic performance. As a result, a novel amorphous porous BiSbO x nanotube is successfully designed for efficient CO 2 electroreduction, which may shed new light on developing many more amorphous composite metal oxide catalysts for conversion of inert small molecules.
