Contactless thermometer based on fluorescence intensity ratio shows unparalleled characteristics compared with traditional contact thermometers. However, few materials are suitable for high temperature (above 573 K) measurement. In this work, Pr 3+ was selected as the emitter and Y 3 GaO 6 :xPr 3+ luminescent thermometers were designed. The phase, crystal structure and morphology were identified using X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement and scanning electron microscope. The spectra with multiple ranges were temperature sensitive due to the cross-relaxion mechanism that occurs in the luminescence process. The parameters for temperature measurement were determined based on the peak intensity ratio of 506 and 610 nm at different temperatures (from 293 to 823 K). Y 3 GaO 6 :0.01Pr 3+ displays excellent temperature sensitive performance, in which the relative sensitivity values increase along with the temperature in a wide temperature range and reach 4.09 % K −1 . The thermometric visualization in Y 3 GaO 6 :xPr 3+ can be achieved due to the widely varying luminescence colors at different temperatures.
A novel mechanoluminescent (ML) material, Y 3 GaO 6 :Eu 3+ , which exhibits red ML emission under mechanical stimulation, is reported in this paper. The crystal structure belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system with the space group Cmc2 1 . Photoluminescence (PL) results indicate an optimum emission wavelength of 612 nm under 253 nm excitation, with an optimal Eu 3+ doping concentration of 0.09. The luminescence intensity of the sample, when subjected to both frictional and tensile stimuli, shows a linear dependence on the magnitude of the applied stress within the tested range. ML and thermoluminescence (TL) results suggest that the ML originates from electron release from traps. Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed oxygen vacancies as the primary traps, with their concentration trend closely matching the ML intensity trend. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the potential application of Y 3 GaO 6 :Eu 3+ in stress distribution visualization, highlighting its broad prospects in the field of intelligent stress sensing.

To address the issue of single sensing function in current Mechanoluminescence (ML) material, a ML material Y 3 GaO 6 : Eu 3+ /Tb 3+ with temperature and stress dual-function sensing characteristics was prepared by high-temperature solid-state method. The crystal phase, afterglow and luminescence properties of the materials were studied by a series of characterization techniques. Optical studies reveal that color-tunable emission from red to yellow and green can be achieved by adjusting the doping concentrations of Eu 3+ and Tb 3+ . Benefiting from the intrinsic differences in the temperature responses of Tb 3+ and Eu 3+ ions, a ratiometric temperature-sensing model based on the intensity ratio of their characteristic emission peaks was established. Meanwhile, the material exhibits ML under both friction and tensile stimuli, with the intensity showing a linear relationship with the applied stress. By analyzing the luminescence response law under temperature and stress conditions, this study realizes two functions of temperature sensing and stress sensing, which provides a new strategy for the design of advanced mechanical luminescent materials and shows broad application prospects in the fields of structural health monitoring and intelligent bionic skin.
