Metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes have received widespread research attention as a novel membrane material for H2/CO2 separation. The preparation of MOF membranes can be extended by constructing MOF membranes with homogeneous heterogeneous structure and the MOF membranes with high permeance and high selectivity can be prepared. Here, we use the chelation-assisted interfacial growth process to construct a seeding layer, and then prepare Co-Zn-ZIF-L membranes with homogeneous heterogeneous structure by secondary growth for the efficient separation of H2/CO2. The resulting Co-Zn-ZIF-L membranes show an H2 permeances of 2156 GPU and the H2/CO2 selectivity of 31.6 at 298K and 1.0 bar, surpassing the Robeson upper bond (2008). Furthermore, the Co-Zn-ZIF-L membrane has a H2/CO2 separation stability of 65 h and can efficiently separate to obtain pure H2.

Metal–organic framework (MOF) membranes offer a wide range of applications, including simultaneous hydrogen generation and decarbonization. The permselectivity of gas molecules can be considerably increased by optimizing the oriented of MOF membranes, and it is possible to construct MOF membranes with high permeance and high selectivity. Here, chelation-assisted interfacial growth is used to prepare ZIF-L membranes for H 2 /CO 2 separation. The growth rate of the ZIF-L crystal plane is regulated by optimizing the interface Zn 2+ diffusion, and a ZIF-L membrane with preferred orientation is constructed for efficient separation of H 2 /CO 2 . The optimized ZIF-L membrane has an H 2 permeance of over 2000 GPU, and the H 2 /CO 2 selectivity exceeds 30. Additionally, the prepared ZIF-L membrane exhibits outstanding operating stability and tolerance, making it a promising candidate for industrial applications.
Metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes demonstrate significant potential for industrial gas separations, yet fabricating vertically aligned two-dimensional (2D) MOF membranes on polymer substrates remains a considerable challenge due to the weak adhesion and difficulty in achieving precise alignment. This study presents a one-step method for the rapid synthesis of vertically aligned ZIF-L membranes, using a polydopamine (PDA)-assisted approach. This method enables the rapid formation of homogenous, thin but defect-free membranes on polymer substrates within 5 min, drastically reducing the preparation time by over 200 times. The vertically aligned ZIF-L membranes, characterized by the interlayer galleries facing the gas mixtures, exhibit an excellent CO 2 permeance exceeding 1200 GPU and a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 14.5. The versatility of this approach allows for its application on various flat-sheet or even hollow fiber supports. Our findings highlight the potential of PDA-assisted synthesis for efficient, scalable preparation of high-performance MOF membranes for industrial gas separations.
