A SERS Sensor Prepared via Electrostatic Self-Assembly of Ta4C3@AgNP Nanocomposites for Detection of Ziram

Kai Hua,Liang Li,Pei Liang

MXenes are a class of two-dimensional materials exhibiting excellent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance. Currently, the SERS studies of MXenes have been primarily focused on those with M2X and M3X2structural motifs. In order to expand the SERS sensing application based on MXenes, in this paper, a SERS sensor made of Ta4C3@AgNP nanocomposite material was fabricated by electrostatic self-assembly. Tests such as different concentrations of R6G probe molecules showed that the minimum detection limit of this SERS sensor was 10−8M, demonstrating excellent sensitivity. When different test areas are selected, the relative error of intensity under the same wave number is less than 10.7%, showing good repeatability and consistency. Furthermore, the Ta4C3@AgNP nanocomposite SERS sensor was used to detect the pesticide Ziram, and a quantitative model was established. Application detection indicates that this sensor has good sensitivity for the pesticide Ziram, and the minimum detection limit was 10−6M, which exceeded national standard requirements. The findings of this study have potential application value in the fields of food safety and environmental protection.

Using a new octahedron UiO-66(Ce) to enrich target molecules for highly sensitive detection of ziram

Fen Yang,Shuai Zhao,Biaobiao Ge,Jie Huang,Qianmin Dong,Qiang Chen,Shangzhong Jin,Pei Liang

We demonstrate a method for the detection of Ziram in water by using the adsorption properties of UiO-66(Ce) metal-organic framework (MOF) combined with the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate of precious metal nanoparticles. The traditional UiO-66 is based on Zr as the metal center. After replacing the Zr metal center with Ce, the synthesized UiO-66(Ce) has short aging, high efficiency, low energy consumption, and energy saving. Furthermore, by adding P123, UiO-66 is modified to have a structure similar to the durian shell spine, which can provide more composite sites for metal nanoparticles. Thus, more SERS hot spots are generated. The combination of AuNPs with UiO-66(Ce) has been confirmed by XRD, XPS, and other characterization and analysis techniques. The Raman probe molecule R6G was used as an evaluation tool to evaluate the performance of this SERS substrate. The results showed that the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the substrate was as low as 8.96 % at a concentration of 10 –6 M of the R6G solution, and the substrate demonstrated high stability. Finally, the substrate was applied for the detection of ziram in lake water, achieving a detection concentration of 10 –8 M, an enhancement factor of 2.57 × 10 5 , and a detection limit as low as 5.21 × 10 –9 M, demonstrating excellent sensitivity and enabling efficient trace pollutant detection in complex water environments.

Fluorometric determination of ziram using CsPbBr3 quantum dots

Chen Shuqin,Huang Mengna,Huang Mianli,Feng Liang

A strategy based on CsPbBr 3 quantum dots (QDs) is described for the determination of ziram pesticide. A facile and inert gas-free method was used for the synthesis of CsPbBr 3 QDs. The obtained CsPbBr 3 QDs displayed turn-off fluorescence behavior for ziram. The fluorescence intensity of the CsPbBr 3 QDs ( E x / E m  = 365/516 nm) was inversely proportional to the concentration of ziram (0.10 to 50.0 ppm) with a detection limit of 0.086 ppm. Notably, satisfactory recoveries (100 ± 0.25 to 107 ± 5.72%) were obtained in spiked fruit samples, which demonstrated that this method is capable of detecting ziram in real samples. In addition, the mechanism for the detection of ziram was investigated in detail. According to the results, this mechanism can be tentatively explained by fluorescence quenching originating from the increased surface defects and the structural changes of the CsPbBr 3 QDs. The detection ability of this strategy shows promising applicability in food safety. Graphical abstract

Tyrosinase coupled with boron-doped carbon nanodots for fluorometric determination of dithiocarbamate fungicide ziram

Dongwei Wang,Donghui Liu,Zhiqiang Zhou,Peng Wang

Determination of dithiocarbamate fungicides using chromatography is not available for real-time and on-site residue analysis. Herein, a novel fluorescent assay for dithiocarbamate fungicides ziram based on the boron-doped carbon nanodots (B-CDs) and tyrosinase was established. The fluorescent B-CDs with maximum excitation and emission at 490 and 540 nm were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction. PCV can combine with the B-CDs, leading to a fluorescent quenching effect. Tyrosinase can catalyze the PCV oxidation, thus fluorescent intensity of the B-CDs recovers due to the consumption of PCV. While ziram can inhibit tyrosinase activity, resulting in less oxidation of PCV and more quenching effect of the B-CDs. Fluorescence was first employed to enzymatic ziram assay to improve sensitivity. This assay demonstrates a higher sensitivity for ziram (LOD: 0.46 μg L -1 ) compared to other optical assays and feasibility of determining ziram residue in environmental and food samples (Recovery: 73.9–92.6%, RSD: 2.53–6.57%).

Rapid detection of ziram residues in apple and pear fruits by SERS based on octanethiol functionalized bimetallic core-shell nanoparticles

Nisar Hussain,Hongbin Pu,Abid Hussain,Da-Wen Sun

Existing approaches for the screening of unsafe materials in food matrices are time-consuming, tiresome and destructive in nature. Therefore, in the current study, a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method based on octanethiol-functionalized core-shell nanoparticles (Oct/Au@AgNPs) was established for rapid detection of ziram in apple and pear fruits. The morphology of substrate was evaluated using high-resolution TEM images and superimposed HAADF-STEM-EDS elemental mapping images, which confirmed that Au@AgNPs having gold (Au) core size of 28 nm in diameter and silver (Ag) shell of 5.5 nm in thickness were successfully grafted with octanethiol. The SERS method with the sensitive nanoparticles could detect ziram of up to 0.015 and 0.016 ppm in apple and pear with high coefficients of determination (R 2 ) of 0.9987 and 0.9993, respectively. Furthermore, satisfactory recoveries (80–106%) were also accomplished for the fungicide in real samples. This work demonstrated that the functionalized silver-coated gold nanoparticles were easy to prepare and could be used as sensitive SERS platforms for monitoring of other agrochemicals in foods.

Bimetallic coreshell nanorods with thioglycolic acid monolayer for highly sensitive and rapid SERS detection of thiabendazole and ziram residues in Prunus Persica peaches

Nisar Hussain,Yuzhu Li,Cheng Qu,Ning Li,Honglin Liu

Simultaneous assessment of agrochemical residues in agricultural entities is crucial for ensuring food safety and protecting consumer health. A highly sensitive and stable thioglycolic acid (TGA) based surface modified coreshell nanorod (Au@Ag@TGANR) arrays were developed for simultaneous fungicide detection in peach samples. The developed Au@Ag@TGANRs exhibited superior surface enhance Raman scattering (SERS) performance, enabling the simultaneous examination of ziram (ZIR) and thiabendazole (TBZ) residues in peach samples with detection limits as low as 0.003 and 0.028 ppm and high R 2 values of 0.996 and 0.995, for ZIR and TBZ, respectively. Good recoveries of 86.2 to 108.6 % and 80.2 to 105.7 % were also achieved for peach samples, highlighting the effectiveness of the established protocol for accurate and reliable detection of pesticides in fruits. These results suggest that the proposed method could be a valuable addition to current food safety protocols, with potential application in investigating toxic residues in agricultural entities.
