An electrochemiluminescence sensor based on Fe/Zn-BTC@C-dots sensitisation for thiamethoxam detection

Shuhuai Li,Yan Deng,Chaohai Pang,Xionghui Ma,Yuwei Wu,Mingyue Wang,Jianping Li,Zhi Xu,Lianming Zhang

The performance of an electrochemiluminescent reagent directly affects the performance of its corresponding electrochemiluminescent (ECL) sensor. In this study, Fe/Zn-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid metal–organic framework@C-dots (Fe/Zn-BTC@C-dots), which consist of a nano-loaded carbon quantum dot material with an excellent luminescence performance, were synthesised for the first time. Subsequently, they were used to modify the surface of a glassy carbon electrode, and combined with a single-chain thiamethoxam DNA aptamer to construct a biosensor. A novel method for the detection of thiamethoxam was established based on control of the excellent luminescence signal of the Fe/Zn-BTC@C-dots by specific recognition of the aptamer by the target molecule (a signal switch). Upon capturing thiamethoxam, the electrochemical luminescence intensity of the sensor was quenched. The ability of Fe/Zn-BTC to effectively catalyse and amplify the electrochemical luminescence of the C-dots significantly improved the sensitivity of the sensor, while the specific recognition of the target by the aptamer imparted the sensor with an excellent selection ability. Such an advanced approach is promising for the detection of thiamethoxam, with a linear range of 5–5000 × 10 −11 mol/L and a sensitivity of 9.81 × 10 −12 mol/L being achieved. Moreover, the sensor exhibited recovery rates of 90.5–109.3% upon the detection of thiamethoxam in actual samples.

A bottom-up sonication-assisted synthesis of Zn-BTC MOF nanosheets and the ppb-level acetone detection of their derived ZnO nanosheets

Bingsheng Du,Fanfan Yan,Xiaohui Lin,Chengyao Liang,Xuezheng Guo,Yiling Tan,Hao Zhen,Chengjiu Zhao,Yijie Shi,Evans Kibet,Yong He,Xi Yang

Two-dimensional metal-organic framework nanosheets , as a new member of the two-dimensional family, are attracting increasing research interest in various fields. Herein, a uniform two-dimensional Zn-BTC MOF nanosheet with a thickness of 14 ± 2 nm was synthesized through a simple, efficient, and scalable sonication-assisted bottom-up strategy. The ZnO nanoparticles were used as the Zn source, which can be corroded by H 3 BTC to form Zn-BTC MOFs under sonication conditions. The morphologies of Zn-BTC MOFs can be modulated from nanosheets to nanorods by changing the content of H 3 BTC. The crystal growth process is dominated by the thermodynamics of sonication and the stoichiometric ratio of the generated Zn 2+ and H 3 BTC, and the crystal growth mechanism was elaborated by the oriented attachment. Consequently, a chemiresistive gas sensor based on Zn-BTC nanosheet derivatives was fabricated to detect ppb-level acetone . Notably, the experimental detection limit of concentration could reach as low as 100 ppb of acetone due to the functional surface, and the dynamic response linearity reached 99 %. Our work explored a new method of synthesizing two-dimensional Zn-BTC MOF, and the fabricated gas sensing device demonstrated promising potential in gas sensing fields.

Trisodium citrate synergises with Zn-BTC-modified ZIF-8 immobilised enzyme for green epoxidation of α-pinene in acidic media

Huan-huan Fan,Wei Su,Jing-zhi Wu,Wen-long Liu,Chu-an Lin,Qing-yun Li,You-yan Liu,Ai-xing Tang

This study addresses challenges in the chemoenzymatic epoxidation of α-pinene, such as lipase deactivation, carrier decomposition in acidic environments, and product ring-opening side reactions, by developing a core-shell structured metal-organic framework (MOF)-based immobilized enzyme catalyst, CALB@ZIF-8@Zn-BTC. Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) was encapsulated into ZIF-8 channels via in situ encapsulation. Trisodium citrate was introduced to accelerate the aggregation and co-precipitation of ZIF-8, while 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H₃BTC) coordinated with surface zinc ions of ZIF-8 to form a core-shell composite with enzyme protection and acid-buffering functionalities. Experimental results demonstrated that sodium citrate significantly enhanced acid scavenging capacity, suppressing acidic side reactions and achieving 96.6 % epoxidation selectivity. The Zn-BTC shell improved ZIF-8 stability in acidic systems, retaining over 60 % activity after 7 cycles. Under optimized conditions (3.35 mol/L ethyl acetate, 0.5 mol/L H₂O₂, 0.1 g sodium citrate), α-pinene conversion reached 83.1 %. Compared to the commercial catalyst Novozym435, CALB@ZIF-8@Zn-BTC exhibited superior catalytic efficiency, selectivity, and reusability. Structural characterization (FESEM, EDS, nitrogen adsorption) confirmed enhanced mass transfer and stability due to the composite’s unique architecture and uniformly distributed sodium citrate. This work provides an innovative solution for green and efficient α-pinene epoxidation and offers theoretical and practical insights for designing MOF-based catalysts in acidic environments.

A Cu/Zn-BTC derived catalyst for SF6 selective catalytic reduction to SO2

Zhihui Li,Xiangyu Wang,Hua Jiang,Kexin Zhu,Zihan Li,Fuping Zeng

To address the environmental challenge of sulfur hexafluoride (SF 6 ), a CuO@ZnO catalyst was prepared from a Cu/Zn-BTC bimetallic precursor. This enabled a synergistic treatment system with sulfur element-catalyzed conversion and fluorine element-fixation. The experimental results show that under mild conditions of 500 °C and 0.2 MPa, during a 20 h catalytic process, the catalyst achieves a maximum degradation efficiency of 96.34% for 2% SF 6 , with high selectivity converting it to SO 2 , while fluorine was fixed as CaF 2 . In-situ XRD characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed a key in situ activation process. Under NH 3 induction, CuO is reduced to metallic Cu, forming an optimal Cu@ZnO interface that enhances SF 6 adsorption and bonding. This significantly lowers the energy barriers for S-F bond cleavage and SO 2 formation. The rate-determining step, the energy barrier for SO 2 formation, dropped from 2.74 eV to 0.48 eV compared with CuO@ZnO, thus providing a kinetic explanation for the catalytic mechanism. Overall, this work offers a high-performance catalyst for SF 6 treatment and a new theoretical basis for designing MOF-derived materials for fluorinated greenhouse gas conversion.

Biological Effects of EGCG@MOF Zn(BTC)4 System Improves Wound Healing in Diabetes

Song Li,Jing Yan,Qiangqiang Zhu,Xinxiang Liu,Senlin Li,Shenhou Wang,Xuanjun Wang,Jun Sheng

Tea contains high levels of the compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It is considered an important functional component in tea and has anti-cancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The eight phenolic hydroxyl groups in EGCG’s chemical structure are the basis for EGCG’s multiple biological effects. At the same time, it also leads to poor chemical stability, rendering EGCG prone to oxidation and isomerization reactions that change its original structure and biological activity. Learning how to maintain the activity of EGCG has become an important goal in understanding the biological activity of EGCG and the research and development of tea-related products. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials with a three-dimensional network structure that are composed of inorganic metals or metal clusters together with organic complexes. MOFs exploit the porous nature of the material itself. When a drug is an appropriate size, it can be wrapped into the pores by physical or chemical methods; this allows the drug to be released slowly, and MOFs can also reduce drug toxicity. In this study, we used MOF Zn(BTC)4materials to load EGCG and investigated the sustained release effect of EGCG@MOF Zn(BTC)4and the biological effects on wound healing in a diabetic mouse model. Keywords:EGCG;MOF;wound healing;diabetes

One-Step Synthesis of Dimethyl Ether from CO2 Hydrogenation by Cu/Zn-BTC Derivatived CuZnO/HZSM-5 Bifunctional Catalysts

Mu Yifang,Li Yanhong,Huang Aisheng

Direct synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) from carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) hydrogenation by using bifunctional catalysts has attracted much attention in view of CO 2 conversion and utilization. However, direct CO 2 hydrogenation to DME is challenging due to kinetics and thermodynamic limitations, thus requiring the development of more effective bifunctional catalysts. In this work, metal-organic framework (MOF) Cu/Zn-BTC derived CuZnO catalyst is developed and combined with HZSM-5 for direct CO 2 hydrogenation to DME. The influence of Si/Al ratio of HZSM-5, mass ratio of CuZnO and HZSM-5, reaction temperature, reaction pressure and space velocity on the catalytic performances of the CuZnO/HZSM-5 bifunctional catalysts is systematically examined in a fixed-bed reactor. Attributing to a high activity of the Cu/Zn-BTC derived CuZnO catalyst for CO 2 hydrogenation to methanol, the CuZnO/HZSM-5 bifunctional catalysts display high CO 2 conversion and DME selectivity. Under a mild reaction condition (225 °C and 3.0 MPa), a high CO 2 conversion of 54.3% and DME selectivity of 79.5% are obtained for the bifunctional catalysts, which outperform the state-of-the-art catalysts for CO 2 hydrogenation to DME. Further, after 100 h of reaction, the bifunctional catalyst can still maintain a high CO 2 conversion rate (~ 52.6%) and DME selectivity (~ 77.3%), which suggests promising prospects for industrial applications.

Preparation of a new porous Zn-BTC loaded with Ag dendrites by two-step electrodeposition for SERS detection of tetracycline hydrochloride

Dan Huang,Ling Li,Renjie Li,Wenxi Wang,Wenli Chen,Xiandeng Hou,Li Wu

Tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) is a widely used antibiotic in animal husbandry and aquaculture practices, and its residual accumulation in food commodities constitutes a persistent public health concern. Therefore, sensitive, time-saving, and reliable analytical strategies for TCH are critical for guaranteeing food safety. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has become an ideal analytical modality, attributed to its ultrahigh sensitivity, operational simplicity, and inherent molecular fingerprinting capability. The integration of plasmonic metal materials (PMPs) with the functional material provides a rational design strategy for advanced SERS substrates. A case in point is that of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). However, the construction of MOF-PMPs composites is hindered by complex fabrication protocols, prolonged preparation time and high cost. Electrochemical deposition, characterized by rapid processing, facile parameter tuning, and environmental compatibility, presents a promising alternative for SERS substrate construction. In this work, we present a novel Ag/Zn-BTC@NF composite SERS substrate synthesized via two-step electrodeposition. The as-fabricated material delivers prominent SERS sensitivity. When R6G is used as the specific molecule, LOD (detection limit) can reach 10 −9  M, and the enhancement factor is 6.6 × 10 6 . Furthermore, the substrate achieved an LOD of 10 −8  M for TCH and enabled its ingenious detection in milk and honey samples, with recoveries of 87.4 − 112.5%. The proposed methodology establishes an efficient and eco-friendly synthetic strategy for MOF-PMPs composites, thereby broadening the scope of SERS technology in food safety applications.

Effective adsorptive removal of tetracycline from aqueous solution by Zn-BTC@SBC derived from sludge:Experimental study and density functional theory (DFT) calculations

Zhikang Deng,Jinyao Zhu,Ping Li,Zhenjie Du,Xuebin Qi,Xi Chen,Rui Mu,Chenyu Zeng,Yongfei Ma,Zulin Zhang

Overuse of tetracycline (TC) has caused serious damage to aquatic environment. Developing sustainable and efficient removal technologies for TC is of great significance to eliminate its ecological risks. In this study, a novel zinc metal organic framework porous biochar composite (Zn-BTC@SBC) derived from sludge was the first time synthesized and employed for adsorptive removal of TC from water. The adsorption process of TC followed the Elovich and Temkin model and the maximum capacity of Zn-BTC@SBC to adsorb TC was 125.9 mg/g. Characterization analysis demonstrated that the greater adsorption capacity of Zn-BTC@SBC was ascribed to its larger surface area, pore volume and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups. The fitting results showed that both chemisorption and physical adsorption predominated the adsorption process of TC on Zn-BTC@SBC. Further material characterization (FTIR and XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the molecular level suggested that the good adsorption performance of Zn-BTC@SBC on TC might be due to chemisorption dominated by oxygen-containing functional groups, which included π-π conjugation, H-bonding and electrostatic interaction. And it was a spontaneous, endothermic and randomness increasing reaction. Both ion species/strength and solution pH significantly affected the adsorption capacity of Zn-BTC@SBC for TC. The natural water samples with complex composition (lake and river water) still showed 71.27–76.37 % of TC adsorbed. The used Zn-BTC@SBC was capable of maintaining its stable adsorption capacity by NaOH regeneration. This study demonstrated that Zn-BTC@SBC was a promising practicability in removal of TC and workable approach for sustainable utilization of sludge.

Zinc-based metal organic framework with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties for promoting wound healing

Chen Yuting,Cai Jinhong,Liu Dachang,Liu Shuhan,Lei Doudou,Zheng Li,Wei Qingjun,Gao Ming

The synergistic effect of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory is needed to overcome the problem of wound healing difficulties. Based on the favorable antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect of zinc ions (Zn2+) and the physicochemical properties of metal organic frameworks (MOFs), we prepared nanosized zinc-based MOF: Zn-BTC with the ability to slowly release Zn2+. In cellular levels, Zn-BTC possessed lower toxicity to fibroblasts and enhanced capacity of cell proliferation and migration. It also had good bactericidal effect on multiple drug-resistant bacteria by reducing 41.4% MRSA and 47.2% Escherichia coli. In addition, Zn-BTC also displayed the ability of lowering the expression of antioxidant genes: superoxide dismutase 1, superoxide dismutase 2 and interleukin 6, and enhancing the expression of wound healing genes: transforming growth factors-β and type I collagen. Finally, it also demonstrated that Zn-BTC could effectively improve the skin wound healing of SD rats and had no toxicity on major organs. The favorable biocompatibility, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of Zn-BTC gave a new insight of designing novel MOFs for promoting skin wound healing.
