With the rapid advancement of industrialization, wastewater pollution has become an increasingly severe environmental issue. The integration of photocatalysis with solar interfacial evaporation technology, which leverages the abundant and clean energy of solar power, has drawn growing attention as effective solutions to this problem. In this study, MoS2 nanosheets with low-dimensional and controllable morphology were successfully grown on layered ZnIn2S4 using a simple template method, resulting in a novel nanoflower heterojunction photocatalyst. This photocatalyst was then combined with sodium alginate, and aerogels were fabricated through directional freezing technology. The ZnIn2S4/MoS2 photocatalytic aerogel demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light, efficiently degrading various pollutants such as rhodamine B(RhB)(30 min, 99%), methyl orange(MO)(30 min, 99%), tetracycline(TC)(1h, 88%), and other antibiotics and dyes. Notably, the degradation efficiency for tetracycline remained at 88% even after five cycles of use, highlighting the aerogel’s strong reusability and stability across different pollutants. Additionally, the current aerogel composite exhibits an evaporation rate of up to 1.984 kg m–2 h–1 and a photothermal conversion efficiency of 95.5%. These results demonstrate that the ZnIn2S4/MoS2 photocatalytic aerogel is a promising candidate for sustainable water treatment, with broad applicability and stable photocatalytic degradation efficiency and interfacial evaporation efficiency under different polluted environments.

The construction of a well-defined and efficient Z-scheme heterostructure with enhanced photogenerated charge carriers and their rapid transfer is vital for realizing efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production, to achieve carbon neutrality. Herein, we study the H 2 evolution reaction by rationally constructing a hybrid Au-anchored UiO-66-NH 2 with localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties, embedded with ZnIn 2 S 4 /MoS 2 nanosheets. Interestingly, the synergistic effect of excellent heterojunction, tunes additional catalytic active sites, provides effective separation of photogenerated charges at the junction interface and establishes a dedicated microenvironment for the boosted electron transfer. Notably, the optimized hybrid photocatalyst (Au 6 @U6N) 15 /ZIS/MS 5 exhibits highly efficient H 2 generation of 58.2 mmol g −1 h −1 , which is almost 16 and 1.5 folds of the pristine ZIS and MS/U6N/ZIS, correspondingly. It has an apparent quantum efficiency of 19.6% at a wavelength of 420 nm, surpassing several reported MOF-based ZnIn 2 S 4 photocatalytic H 2 evolution activities. Significantly, this research provides insights into the design of interface-engineered plasmonic MOF with layered encapsulated heterostructures that elucidate the role of plasmonic LSPR effect and efficiently regulate the charge transfer with enhanced microchannels, hence boosting the visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity for realizing efficient green energy conversion.

The development of low-cost and efficient metal sulfide photocatalysts through morphological and structural design is vital to the advancement of the hydrogen economy. However, metal sulfide semiconductor photocatalysts still suffer from low carrier separation and poor solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiencies. Herein, two-dimensional ZnIn 2 S 4 nanosheets were grown on Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S hollow nanocages to construct Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S@ZnIn 2 S 4 hollow nanocages for the first time. Novel hollow core–shell Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S@ZnIn 2 S 4 /MoS 2 nanocages with Z-scheme heterojunction structures were obtained by incorporating MoS 2 nanosheet co-catalyst via the solvothermal method. The resulting Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S@ZnIn 2 S 4 /MoS 2 exhibited unique structural and compositional advantages, leading to remarkable photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rates of up to 8.5 mmol·h −1 ·g −1 without the use of any precious metal co-catalysts. This rate was 10.6-fold and 7.1-fold higher compared to pure ZnIn 2 S 4 and Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S, respectively. Moreover, the optimized Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S@ZnIn 2 S 4 /MoS 2 photocatalyst outperformed numerous reported ZnIn 2 S 4 -based photocatalysts and some ZnIn 2 S 4 -based photocatalysts based on precious metal co-catalysts. The exceptional photocatalytic performance of Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S@ZnIn 2 S 4 /MoS 2 can be attributed to the Z-scheme heterojunction of core–shell structure that enhanced charge carrier separation and transport, as well as the co-catalytic action of MoS 2 . Overall, the proposed Zn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S@ZnIn 2 S 4 /MoS 2 with heterojunction structure is a promising candidate for the preparation of efficient photocatalysts for solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion.

The construction of Z-scheme heterojunctions is regarded as one of the most effective modification strategies for photocatalysts. However, how to improve the interfacial charge transfer efficiency to further enhance the photocatalytic activity remains an urgent issue to be addressed. In this study, sulfur vacancy-enriched ZnIn2S4/MoS2Z-scheme heterojunctions (V-ZIS/MS) containing interfacial Mo-S bonds was successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The V-ZIS/2%MS showed the highest hydrogen evolution rate, achieving 19.21 ± 0.78 mmol·g−1·h−1under visible light and 112.89 ± 10.98 mmol·g−1·h−1under full-spectrum illumination, which are 5.07 and 4.41 times higher than ZIS (3.79 ± 0.79 mmol·g−1·h−1) and V-ZIS (4.36 ± 0.98 mmol·g−1·h−1) under visible light, respectively, outperforming most reported ZIS-based photocatalysts. This is because the composite of V-ZIS and MS enhanced its light absorption performance. More importantly, the formation of Mo-S bonds at the V-ZIS/MoS2interface facilitated efficient charge transfer and reduced interfacial resistance, leading to significantly improved photocatalytic activity. Cycling experiments further demonstrate that V-ZIS/2%MS exhibits considerable photocatalytic stability. X-ray diffraction analysis before and after the reaction further confirmed the structural stability of the catalyst. This work provides a certain reference for the preparation of high-performance ZIS-based photocatalysts.
