Fabrication of a novel ZIF-8 derived ZnO-AgCl-Ag Z-scheme photocatalyst for efficient photocatalytic degradation of RhB
In this study, a novel Z-scheme ZnO-AgCl-Ag photocatalyst was prepared by converting the metal-organic framework ZIF-8 to ZnO via a simple pyrolysis method and using a physical wet mixing method. The crystal structure, microstructure, elemental distribution, and photoelectrochemical properties of the catalyst were systematically characterized using various analytical techniques. The characterization results showed that the introduction of AgCl/Ag into ZnO exhibited a higher light absorption capacity as well as a lower transmission resistance. Photocatalytic degradation experiments showed that the ZA-3 sample achieved a 99.97 % degradation rate of 10 mg/L RhB in 24 min, which was 2.3 higher than that of ZIF-8-derived ZnO. In addition, we systematically investigated the effects of initial RhB concentration, solution pH, anion interference, and catalyst recycling cycle on the photocatalytic activity, demonstrating the stability and applicability of the composites under different conditions. In addition, radical trapping experiments were conducted to probe the photocatalytic reaction mechanism, and a Z-scheme charge transfer pathway was confirmed, in which photogenerated electrons were effectively separated and transferred at the Z-scheme heterojunction interface through the conductive channel of Ag nanoparticles as carriers, which significantly improved the photocatalytic activity. In this study, the advantages of MOFS were rationally and effectively utilized to design and prepare Z-scheme photocatalysts with UV–visible response.
