A high-performance photocatalyst of ZnTCPP sensitized porous graphitic carbon nitride for antibiotic degradation under visible light irradiation

Zhanying Ma,Cong Zeng,Linlin Hu,Qing Zhao,Qian Yang,Jinfen Niu,Binghua Yao,Yangqing He

In this paper, a highly efficient photocatalyst of ZnTCPP sensitized g-C 3 N 4 was successfully constructed via a facile thermal polycondensation method. The FT-IR and XRD data indicated that ZnTCPP molecules were successfully condensed on the surface of g-C 3 N 4 through amide groups as the bridging units. The optimum 10%ZnTCPP/g-C 3 N 4 composites exhibits excellent enhanced photocatalytic activity for decomposing both methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline (TC) under visible light with long-term reusability and elimination rates of 96% and 80.3%, respectively. The superior visible light photocatalytic performance was mainly attributed to the highly efficient separation of electron-hole pairs and the enhanced solar light utilization, as demonstrated by photoluminescence (PL), electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), photocurrent responses, and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The active species trapping and terephthalic acid (TA) fluorescence experiments indicated that OH was the dominating reactive oxidizing species for TC degradation. Furthermore, the possible photocatalytic degradation pathways for MB and TC have been proposed based on the UPLC-MS spectrometry . The excellent degradation efficiency of ZnTCPP/g-C 3 N 4 reveals that it has great potential as photocatalysts for practical application to eliminate recalcitrant organic contaminants.

Ti3C2TX MXene Modified with ZnTCPP with Bacteria Capturing Capability and Enhanced Visible Light Photocatalytic Antibacterial Activity

Hao Cheng,Jiameng Wang,Yongqiang Yang,Huixian Shi,Jing Shi,Xiong Jiao,Peide Han,Xiaohong Yao,Weiyi Chen,Xiaochun Wei,Paul K Chu,Xiangyu Zhang

Light-assisted antibacterial therapy is a promising alternative to antibiotic therapy due to the high antibacterial efficacy without bacterial resistance. Recent research has mainly focused on the use of near-infrared light irradiation to kill bacteria by taking advantage of the synergistic effects rendered by hyperthermia and radical oxygen species. However, photocatalytic antibacterial therapy excited by visible light is more convenient and practical, especially for wounds. Herein, a visible light responsive organic-inorganic hybrid of ZnTCPP/Ti 3 C 2 T X is designed and fabricated to treat bacterial infection with antibacterial efficiency of 99.86% and 99.92% within 10 min against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli , respectively. The porphyrin-metal complex, ZnTCPP, is assembled on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 T X MXene to capture bacteria electrostatically and the Schottky junction formed between Ti 3 C 2 T X and ZnTCPP promotes visible light utilization, accelerates charge separation, and enhances the mobility of photogenerated charges, and finally increases the photocatalytic activity. As a result of the excellent bacteria capturing ability and photocatalytic antibacterial effects, ZnTCPP/Ti 3 C 2 T X exposed to visible light has excellent antibacterial properties in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, organic-inorganic materials that have been demonstrated to possess good biocompatibility and enhance wound healing have large potential in bio-photocatalysis, antibacterial therapy, as well as antibiotics-free treatment of wounds.

π-π nanoassembly of water-soluble metalloporphyrin of ZnTCPP on RGO/AuNPs/CS nanocomposites for photoelectrochemical sensing of hydroquinone

Xiaofang Ma,Jing Chen,Yali Wu,Samrat Devaramani,Xiaoyan Hu,Qixia Niu,Caizhong Zhang,Duoliang Shan,Huan Wang,Xiaoquan Lu

The RGO/AuNPs/CS/ZnTCPP nanocomposites were successfully prepared with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) loaded with Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) existed in chitosan (CS) and water-soluble zinc meso-tetra (4-carboxylphenyl) porphyrin (ZnTCPP) by π-π nanoassembly method and were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), 1 H NMR spectra and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. The most important advantage of the RGO/AuNPs/CS/ZnTCPP nanocomposites was environmentally friendly. Indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode surface was modified with the RGO/AuNPs/CS/ZnTCPP nanocomposites exhibited a good photocurrent response at −0.2 V under whitelight of Xenon lamp illumination. The photocurrent response could be greatly increased by adding hydroquinone (HQ) to the solution. Electrons of ZnTCPP were excited from HOMO to LUMO by irradiating light. The photoexcited electrons injected into the RGO , and then transferred to AuNPs further to the ITO. Addition of HQ resulted in the enhanced photocurrent signal by acting as a sacrificial electron donor ; Thereby scavenged the photogenerated holes of the excited ZnTCPP and oxidized to benzoquinone (BQ). Based on the above interaction, detection of HQ was developed by a novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor (S/N = 3) with a linear range from 5 to 300 nmol/L (r = 0.997) and detection limit of 0.5 nmol/L. Proposed biosensor is simple, rapid and this was successfully applied for the quantification HQ in the real sample matrices.

Fe3O4/ZnTCPP heterojunction for rapid treatment of bacteria-infected wounds

Xiangyu Zhang,Panyue Liu,Wangping Duan,Pengcui Li,Weiyi Chen,Xiaochun Wei

Bacterial infections significantly delay the healing of skin wounds, while the overuse of antibiotics has led to increasing pathogen resistance, further complicating the treatment of skin lesions. Photodynamic therapy has garnered significant attention due to its convenient, controllable antimicrobial properties and low risk of inducing drug resistance. However, traditional metal porphyrin photosensitizers suffer from issues such as rapid recombination of photogenerated charge carriers and insufficient reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, severely limiting their clinical application in light-controlled antimicrobial therapy. This study synthesized ferrosoferric oxide/Zn-doped porphyrin heterojunction composites (Fe 3 O 4 /ZnTCPP) via a two-step hydrothermal method. ZnTCPP, acting as a photosensitizer, generates electrons upon excitation by 808 nm near-infrared (NIR) light, while Fe 3 O 4 serves as both an electron acceptor and a photothermal component. Electrochemical testing indicates that the heterointerface formed between Fe 3 O 4 and ZnTCPP significantly enhances the separation efficiency of photogenerated charges. Under NIR irradiation, the Fe 3 O 4 /ZnTCPP composite exhibits enhanced ROS generation capacity and superior photothermal effects compared to individual components. In vitro antibacterial testing indicates that Fe 3 O 4 /ZnTCPP composite achieves a 99.99 % kill rate against Staphylococcus aureus after just 10 min of 808 nm NIR irradiation. Additionally, this composite material accelerates skin tissue regeneration while effectively reducing inflammation levels in infected wounds, maintaining outstanding biocompatibility throughout. This study confirms that the constructed Fe 3 O 4 /ZnTCPP heterojunction successfully integrates near-infrared responsiveness, photodynamic therapy, and photothermal therapy into a single platform, providing an innovative material design solution for treating bacterial wound infections.

Construction of 0D/2D/0D (001)TiO2/Ti3C2/ZnTCPP S-scheme heterojunction with robust built-in electric field for boosting visible-light-driven tetracycline degradation and hydrogen evolution activity

Xiang Qin,Tiantian Yi,Rong Cao,Junchen Luo,Hui Luo,Lijun Ji

The development of efficient S-scheme heterojunctions was crucial for addressing the limitations of insufficient light absorption and rapid charge recombination in photocatalysis. In this study, a dual-synergistic 0D/2D/0D (001)TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 /ZnTCPP S-scheme heterojunction was rationally designed. The matched energy levels between (001)TiO 2 and ZnTCPP metalloporphyrin drove the formation of a robust built-in electric field, serving as the endogenous S-scheme charge separation core that preserved strong redox capacity. Meanwhile, the metallic Ti 3 C 2 MXene acted as an exogenous high-conductivity transport bridge, accelerating directional carrier migration to surface active sites. The composite was successfully fabricated via a hydrothermal method combined with electrostatic self-assembly. Comprehensive characterization by XRD, TEM, and XPS confirmed that (001)TiO 2 nanoparticles and amorphous ZnTCPP were uniformly anchored onto Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets, forming intimate 0D/2D/0D interfacial contacts with strong electronic interactions. The incorporation of ZnTCPP significantly extended the optical absorption into the visible region, while Ti 3 C 2 functioned as an efficient electron mediator and photothermal agent, further boosting reaction kinetics. Under visible-light irradiation, the optimized TTZ-2 composite exhibited exceptional dual-functional performance: a tetracycline degradation rate of 93.4% and a hydrogen evolution rate of 590.2 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 . Mechanistic investigations, supported by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, revealed that the dual synergy between the endogenous built-in electric field and the exogenous Ti 3 C 2 channel synergistically facilitated the directional migration of photogenerated carriers along the S-scheme pathway, effectively suppressing recombination while preserving strong redox capabilities. This work demonstrated a viable strategy for designing multifunctional MXene-based photocatalysts for environmental remediation and solar energy conversion.
