Intrinsic environmental instability of hydrogels has limited their practical applications as durable flexible sensors in human life. In this study, a bio-based eutectogel (BEG) with environmental tolerance was designed via deep eutectic solvent (DES), thioctic acid (TA) and lignin. Benefit from self-ring-opening polymerization of TA monomer in the ethanol and the lignin acting as free radicals, the BEG was fabricated through efficient cast-drying method. The dynamic interaction formation between DES and TA polymer network was revealed by using in-situ infrared spectroscopy during the ethanol evaporation process. The introduction of lignin not only improve the mechanical properties of the eutectogels, but also endow the BEG with moisture tolerance by activating self-aggregated dense hydrophobic layer on the surface while in high humidity environment. This bio-based eutectogels with non-volatility, board range operating temperature and proper self-adhesion could serve as long-term stable temperature-strain dual sensor with high sensitivity (GF = 1.17, TCR = 4.26 %/K) and rapid response behavior (373 ms). Furthermore, the biocompatible BEG was validated for recording human physiological signals over extended period with performance comparable to commercial hydrogel electrodes. This strategy could broaden the range of making durable stretchable eutectogels in human healthcare monitoring.

Dissolving microneedles (DMNs) represent promising platforms for painless transdermal drug delivery and biosensing, yet integrating multifunctionality with sustainable recyclability via photo-curable additive manufacturing strategy remains challenging. Here we report a multifunctional, pioneering 3D-printed DMNs patch combining a ternary polymerizable deep eutectic solvent (PDES) system with a recyclable eutectogel backing layer. DMNs, formulated with biocompatible choline chloride, itaconic acid, and N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, enable rapid photopolymerization and excellent mechanical strength for effective skin penetration. Chitosan-based glucose-responsive nanoparticles incorporated into the DMNs facilitate controlled and responsive drug release, demonstrating in diabetic rats a rapid blood glucose reduction to 18.7 % of initial levels within 3 h post-administration, sustained for 4 h while minimizing hypoglycemic risk. The conductive, adhesive, and antibacterial eutectogel backing layer offers superior properties for wound dressing and wearable sensors, also serving as a real-time health monitor for human movements. In diabetic mouse models, the CHPG-TA@CUR-DMN@NPs system achieved 68.08 % wound closure by day 10, significantly accelerating healing with reduced inflammation and scarring. The backing layer is designed for easy dissolution and recycling after use, highlighting the eco-friendly and cost-effective nature of our all-in-one integrated multi-material DMNs platform.

In recent years, flexible sensors have attracted much attention due to their wide range of applications. Eutectogel solved the problems of water loss and phase separation of conventional hydrogels. In this work, a purely natural polymer, sodium alginate (SA), was used to construct the network structure of the gel with MXene, PVA and deep eutectic solvent (DES) were used to initiate the physical cross-linking, and an antimicrobial eutectogel was synthesised by one-pot method, which possessed excellent mechanical properties (fracture strain of about 1350 % and fracture toughness of about 2.50 MJ/m 3 ) and a high gauge factor (GF = 7.66). In addition, the resulting gels had good environmental stability (−20 °C–60 °C, maintained a highly repeatable response signal) and enabled wireless sensing. The sensor was capable of sensitively monitoring human joint movements and micro-expressions, which offered a wide range of application prospects for the development of wearable electronic products suitable for human movement.

Developing superstrong adhesives that can be detached via an environmental friendly trigger under mild operation conditions is highly desirable in industry and it can significantly contribute to sustainability. This work provides a novel design of particular eutectogel adhesives based on poly(acrylic acid)-deep eutectic solvent (PAA-DES). The synthesized adhesives can bond strongly with versatile substrates and be readily detached via simple water soaking. The eutectogel adhesive establishes strong adhesion interactions with the surface of adherends through abundant hydrogen bonds and ion-substrate interactions, with an ultrastrong adhesion strength reaching as high as 12.50 MPa on the glass substrate. The adherends could be easily released by water soaking for several minutes with no damage to the system. Such a novel approach for developing detachable adhesives is believed to have high potential in commercialization that requires temporal joining and assembly processes, including optical lens drilling and wafer dicing.

Gel electrolytes have emerged as key components in energy
storage
devices. However, conventional gel electrolytes often exhibit limited
deformation resistance and inadequate mechanical recovery under sustained
external stress, which compromises their long-term operational stability.
Herein, we report a self-healing eutectogel electrolyte comprising
a choline chloride-ethylene glycol deep eutectic solvent (ChCl-DES)
as the dispersion medium and a poly[2-(hydroxyethyl acrylate)] (PHEA)
polymer network. The incorporation of boric acid (BA) and polyethylene
glycol (PEG) enables the formation of dynamic borate ester bonds through
interactions with hydroxyl groups. The reversible rupture and reformation
of these dynamic covalent linkages impart robust self-healing capabilities
to the material. The resulting eutectogel achieves an elongation at
break of up to 1190% and exhibits a self-healing efficiency of 82%
after 24 h. Moreover, supercapacitors assembled with this eutectogel
electrolyte deliver an areal capacitance of 183 mF/cm 2 at
a current density of 3 mA/cm 2 . This work provides a design
strategy for the development of high-performance and durable energy
storage devices, demonstrating significant potential for applications
in flexible electronics and smart sensing systems.

Hydrogels emerge as a promising electrode material for scalp electroencephalogram monitoring, which stands as a pivotal technique in neuroscience, enabling real-time monitoring of brain activity. However, conventional hydrogel-enabled electrodes suffer from low scalp compliance, high scalp-electrode impedance, and inferior interfacial stability. Here, we propose an injectable eutectogel-enabled electrode for high-quality, long-term scalp electroencephalogram monitoring. This gelatin-based eutectogel exhibits temperature-controlled reversible phase transitions, enabling rapid in-situ gelation on the scalp and forming a robust self-adhesive interface. It demonstrates exceptional mechanical durability (1000 cycles at 100% strain), robust adhesion (0.7 N cm −1 on human epidermis and 1.7 N cm −1 on Ag/AgCl electrode), and outstanding anti-drying properties (negligible water loss after 7 days). Additionally, the eutectogel shows superior healing properties, antibacterial properties, and recyclability. Furthermore, it exhibits remarkably low scalp-electrode contact impedance (<20 kΩ at 16 Hz). The eutectogel is injected on the human scalp with dense hair for high-fidelity electroencephalogram recording, enabling long-term monitoring. Its practical applications include monitoring visual evoked potentials, steady-state visual evoked potentials, somatosensory evoked potentials, slow vertex response, auditory brainstem response, multi-channel cognitive electroencephalogram during various daily activities, and event-related potentials P300 signals. The eutectogel-enabled electrode provides a versatile and reliable solution for long-term electroencephalogram monitoring in diverse clinical and research settings.

Ionic gels are emerging stimuli-response elastomers for biomimetic sensors in diverse fields. Photoresponse ionic gels can detect light as a photoreceptor to emulate biological vision for artificial retina and skin. However, the existing ionic gel-based photosensors face limited response speeds and detecting sensitivity due to inefficient ion transport. Here, a high-performance elastomeric photodetector made of polyvinyl alcohol-based pyroelectric eutectogels, containing polar ions and crystalline domains, is reported, which exhibits a high pyroelectric coefficient and enables efficient optical-to-electrical conversion via spontaneous polarization, even under 30% tensile strain. The resulting self-powered photodetector features a broad spectral response spanning 365–1300 nm, with photoresponsivity, detectivity, and response time of 42.06 mA W −1 , 7.65 × 10 10 Jones and 24/35 ms at 455 nm, respectively. The photodetector array enables light-encrypted communication and sensitive optical imaging.

Flexible hydrogel sensors have found extensive applications. However, the insufficient sensing sensitivity and the propensity to freeze at low temperatures restrict their use, particularly in frigid conditions. Herein, a multifunctional eutectogel with high transparency, anti-freezing, anti-swelling, adhesive, and self-healing properties is prepared by a one-step photopolymerization of acrylic acid and lauryl methacrylate in a binary solvent comprising water and deep eutectic solvent (DES). The results from the molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory indicate that the hydrogen bonds between DES and water mixtures possess better stability than those between water molecules. On the other hand, DES breaks down hydrogen bonds in water, providing eutectogels with excellent anti-freezing even at −60 °C. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide is incorporated to establish stable hydrophobic interactions and electrostatic attractions with polymer chains in the eutectogel network, resulting in superior mechanical (elongation at break of 2890%) and anti-swelling (only 2% swelling in water over 7 days) properties. The eutectogel-based strain sensors exhibit remarkable sensitivity, achieving a gauge factor of up to 15.4. The multifunctional eutectogel sensors can monitor motion and transmit encrypted information at low temperatures, demonstrating considerable potential for applications in flexible electronics within low-temperature environments.

Facial nerve injury arising from diseases or clinical interventions can cause significant physiological and psychological harm. Continuous monitoring of facial muscle electrophysiology can mitigate these risks by informing surgical procedures and guiding postoperative rehabilitation. However, conventional electrodes are predominantly invasive and fabricated from mechanically stiff metals that mismatch soft tissues, often leading to secondary injury and discomfort. Here, we develop an ultrasoft eutectogel and employ it as a non-invasive electrode material for a surface electromyography (sEMG) monitoring array. The eutectogel is synthesized by random copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) and the zwitterionic monomer 3-[N,N-dimethyl-[2-(2-methylprop-2-enoyloxy)ethyl]ammonio]propane-1-sulfonate (SBMA) in a deep eutectic solvent (DES), yielding an electrode that integrates ultra-low modulus, strong adhesion, ionic conductivity, and environmental tolerance. The ultra-low modulus and adhesiveness facilitate conformal, dynamic coupling with epidermal tissues, providing an ideal material platform for non-invasive high-quality acquisition of physiological electrical signals, including facial nerve-related activity. We further validate the feasibility of predicting facial nerve functional integrity using this platform. The eutectogel and the flexible multi-electrode array provide a promising strategy for clinical protection and monitoring of facial nerve function.

Gelatin-based
gels are attractive for flexible sensing because
of their reshapeability and potential sustainability. However, their
practical use is still limited by weak mechanical robustness and an
insufficient strain sensitivity. Here, a highly sensitive and reshaped
gelatin-based eutectogel was developed by combining urchin-like conductive
particles with a DES exchange strategy. Sodium caseinate (SC)-MWCNT@liquid
metal (LM) particles were introduced as multiscale conductive units.
The deep eutectic solvent (DES) exchange process reconstructed the
gel network by promoting polymer chain entanglement and facilitating
gelatin triple-helix formation. As a result, the optimized GSML eutectogel
achieved a tensile strength of 3.71 MPa, an elongation at break of
381.66%, and a gauge factor (GF) of 7.6 ( R 2 = 0.98). It maintained stable sensing signals over 1000 stretching
cycles at a 100% strain. Moreover, the GSML could be rapidly reshaped
through simple thermal reprocessing. The retention of triple-helix
structures during reshaping allowed the eutectogel to maintain good
mechanical strength. As a proof of concept, the GSML sensor was integrated
into a single-handed control glove for unmanned car control, achieving
an average recognition accuracy of 94.75%. This work provides a strategy
for designing highly sensitive and reshaped gelatin-based eutectogels
for human–machine interaction applications.

Safe and high-performance electrolytes are essential for the practical development of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Here, we report a eutectogel electrolyte constructed by integrating a deep eutectic solvent (DES), polyacrylamide (PAAM), and the zwitterionic polymer poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]diethyl-(3-sulfonopropyl) (PMAEDS). The synergistic interplay of these components imparts the optimized PAAM 1 - co -PMAEDS 2 eutectogel with a wide electrochemical stability window (4.0 V), intrinsic non-flammability, and efficient ion transport—arising from the rich intermolecular interactions of the DES, the structural stability of PAAM, and the enhanced LiTFSI dissociation promoted by PMAEDS. When applied in Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 ||LiMn 2 O 4 full cells, the electrolyte enables a high specific capacity of 120.5 mAh g −1 with stable cycling over 260 cycles at 2C, while maintaining reliable operation at −10 °C. Moreover, the designed pouch cell demonstrates scalability and excellent safety under severe mechanical and thermal abuse. This work presents a simple and cost-effective eutectogel electrolyte strategy, offering a promising pathway toward next-generation high-safety LIBs.

High-performance ionic conductive gels are essential for the development of flexible electronic devices. However, the robustness and conductivity of gel materials are compromised at extreme temperatures. In this study, a high-performance eutectogel composed of cellulose and metal-based deep eutectic solvent (DES) was prepared. Specifically, cellulose was dissolved in a ternary DES (ZnCl2/water/citric acid) at room temperature, and then another polymerizable DES (ZnCl2/acrylic acid) was introduced to prepare eutectogels with multiple cross-linking hydrogen bonds. In such a design, the as-obtained eutectogels display a decent mechanical performance (tensile stress up to 1.43 MPa) and superior ionic conductivity (5.51 S m–1). Furthermore, their excellent environmental adaptability allows their use across a wide range of temperatures from −45 to +95 °C. Eutectogel-based wearable multifunctional sensors are highly responsive to both tensile and compressive deformation, monitor human movement, and transmit stable and tunable electrical signals. As a solid-state eutectogel-based electrolyte, the assembled supercapacitor has a wide operating voltage window of 2.2 V and a high specific capacitance of 143.2 F g–1 at a current density of 0.5 A g–1. This work provides an idea for designing green and flexible gel-based electronic devices.
