Among the 5d transition metal iridates, Sr2IrO4, which has a layered chalcogenide structure, has received much attention due to its strong spin–orbit coupling (SOC), which produces Mott insulating states and anomalous physical behaviors. In this paper, the microscopic magnetism of Sr2IrO4is studied with electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements. The Lande factorgof the ferromagnetic resonance signal of Sr2IrO4shows anomalous behavior compared to typical ferromagnets. It gradually decreases, and the corresponding resonance fieldHrincreases, with decreasing temperature. The various physical parameters. including the saturated magnetic fieldHsderived fromM-H,Hr, ΔHpp, thegfactor and the intensityIextracted from ESR spectra, are analyzed in detail. Eventually, it is revealed that the anomalous behavior of theg-factor is induced by in-plane Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interaction (DMI) rather than the SOC effect.

Chiral inorganic quasi-2D perovskites are prepared by self-assembling 3D perovskites in solution for the first time. The quasi-2D perovskite synthesized is a pure-phase perovskite with < n > = 3 and is periodically arranged, which is a big breakthrough in quasi-2D inorganic perovskites. With the individual chiral CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals (NCs) assemble into quasi-2D perovskite, the g-factor significantly improved (≈5 × 10 −3 ). In addition, the chiroptical activity of quasi-2D perovskites is explored to be improved with the lateral size increasing. In the first stage of assembly, chiral optical activity is increased due to the lateral size-dependent optical activity, while the changes in the later stages are attributable to the chiral morphology. Interestingly, chirality inversion is found to be correlated to the number of ligands. It is believed that different conformers of chiral ligands caused by steric hindrance of the original ligand oleylamine result in opposite circular dichroism (CD) polarities. The chirality inversion phenomenon is universal, regardless of the choice of ligands. This work opens up a new path for the synthesis of quasi-2D perovskites and provides more opportunities for the modulation of chiral optical activity.

Enriching the library of chiral plasmonic nanoparticles that can be chemically mass-produced will greatly facilitate the applications of chiral plasmonics in areas ranging from constructing optical metamaterials to sensing chiral molecules and activating immune cells. Here we report on a halide-assisted differential growth strategy that can direct the anisotropic growth of chiral Au nanoparticles with tunable sizes and diverse morphologies. Anisotropic Au nanodisks are employed as seeds to yield triskelion-shaped chiral nanoparticles with threefold rotational symmetry and high dissymmetry factors. The averaged scattering g -factors of the l - and d -nanotriskelions are as large as 0.57 and − 0.49 at 650 nm, respectively. The Au nanotriskelions have been applied in chiral optical switching devices and chiral nanoemitters. We also demonstrate that the manipulation of the directional growth rate enables the generation of a variety of chiral morphologies in the presence of homochiral ligands.

Chiral semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) represent a promising class of materials for various applications, including biological sensing, photonics, and spin-polarized devices. However, the comprehension of the mechanisms underlying ligand-induced chiroptical effects in NCs has been limited by the constraints of current theoretical and experimental models, particularly those involving simple spherical NCs. In this study, we examined the relationship between optical activity and band structures in core–shell dot-in-rod NCs, specifically CdSe@CdS, ZnSe/CdS@CdS, and ZnSeTe/CdS@CdS dot-in-rod NCs, which were functionalized with chiral ligands. By manipulating the wave function distribution of electrons and holes within the dot-in-rod NCs, we demonstrated through circular dichroism (CD) measurements that a reduction in the number of holes within the synthesized dot-in-rod NCs correlates with a decrease in the g factor. This conclusion was corroborated by theoretical calculations. Furthermore, the fabrication of chiral CdS-Au heterojunctions and the application of electron quenchers revealed that the reduction of the g factor also suggests the significant role of electrons in the generation of chirality. Our findings not only enhance the understanding of the fundamental origins of induced chirality effects in semiconductor NCs but also provide a clear methodology for the design of optimal optically active chiral NCs, thereby paving the way for future applications utilizing chiroptical materials.
