A novel ionic liquid N-ethyl piperazinium propionate, [NEPP], was prepared, and the densities and viscosities for the binary mixtures of [NEPP] with methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, and n-butanol were measured over the whole concentration range at (298.15, 303.15, 308.15, and 313.15) K and 0.1 MPa. The data of the excess molar volume, VmE, were calculated and fitted with the Redlich–Kister type polynomial equation. The values of VmE of the investigated systems are all negative, indicating that the ion–dipole interactions play important roles between the molecules of the ionic liquid and the alcohols.

The density, viscosity and excess properties of biodiesel–alcohol fuel blends are investigated for research into the blending of fuels. Four n -alkanols (1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol and 1-hexanol) as additives were mixed with ethyl laurate to form binary systems for density and viscosity measurement. Excess molar volumes and viscosity deviations of the four binary systems (1-propanol + ethyl laurate), (1-butanol + ethyl laurate), (1-pentanol + ethyl laurate), and (1-hexanol + ethyl laurate) were calculated from the experimental density and viscosity data and fitted with the Redlich–Kister equation. Grunberg–Nissan and McAllister equations were used to correlate viscosities and the correlated values from McAllister equation are in good agreement with the experimental data. The results may be useful for the research and development of biodiesel–alcohol fuel blends.
Linear α-olefins (C8–C12 α-olefin, LAOs) are acknowledged as high-value-added chemicals in both lubricant production and the polyolefin industry. An alternative route to the synthesis of high-purity LAOs is the dehydration of linear long-chain n-alcohols, whereas elevating the activity and selectivity of catalysts remains a challenge. Herein, we presented that on using sodium-modified γ-Al2O3 as the catalyst, a high selectivity (up to 96.87%) to 1-decene was achieved, and an optimized experimental condition (329 °C and 0.25 h–1) was found using the response surface method. Characterization results including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), pyrolysis (Py)-IR, NH3-temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), and CO2-TPD showed that a suitable ratio (∼0.4 wt %) of sodium impregnation could inhibit the strong acid sites of the catalyst, and sodium impregnation led to the formation of additional base sites, which accounted for the synergistic effect with other acid sites to promote further conversion of ethers to olefins. This work is of significance for the synthesis of LAOs from long-chain n-alcohols.

A series of BiOBr nanosheets with tunable exposing proportion of (0 1 0) facets had been synthesized. In the synthesis process, different n -alcohols are used, which not only promote the exposure of (0 1 0) facets, but also modulate the size and thickness of these BiOBr nanosheets in a wide range. Furthermore, these nanosheets showed an efficient photodegradation activity for salicylic acid (SA) and Rhodamine B (RhB). By comparison, the sample prepared in n -hexanol possessed the highest photocatalytic activity than those synthesized in n -butanol and methanol, respectively. This excellent photocatalytic activity was attributed to the thin lamellar thickness and the exposure of (0 1 0) facets, which facilitated the separation of photoinduced electrons and holes.
