In this study, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was used to fabricate a Z-scheme BiVO 4 -(rGO-Cu 2 O) photocatalyst for the degradation of Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) under sunlight irradiation. The photocatalyst was synthesized using a three-step method BiVO 4 -(rGO-Cu 2 O) photocatalyst with an rGO loading of 1% and (rGO-Cu 2 O) to BiVO 4 ratio of 50% achieved the best degradation effect for TBBPA removal. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR) confirmed that the charge transfer path of BiVO 4 -(rGO-Cu 2 O) follows that of Z-scheme photocatalysts. Moreover, the addition of rGO increases the charge transfer efficiency. High performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) was used to detect and analyze intermediate products, allowing the proposal of the main degradation pathway of TBBPA. Photogenerated electrons of BiVO 4 -(rGO-Cu 2 O) were then transferred into the conduction band of Cu 2 O. Cu 2 O is located in the surface layer, which has the most effective contact area with pollutants, and therefore has a good outcome for the photocatalytic reduction of TBBPA. Photogenerated electrons (e − ) and hydroxyl radicals (∙OH) are the main factors affecting TBBPA degradation. The degradation process of TBBPA includes electron reduction debromination , hydroxylation , and β-cleavage. In our work, BiVO 4 -(rGO-Cu 2 O) was successfully synthesized to degrade TBBPA; this study brings forth a novel approach for the degradation of halogenated organic pollutants using a Z-scheme photocatalytic composite.

A series of RGO-Cu 2 O/Bi 2 O 3 composite photocatalysts was developed by depositing Cu 2 O and Bi 2 O 3 nanocrystals on the surface of RGO via an in situ precipitation method. The Cu 2 O and Bi 2 O 3 nanocrystals distributed uniformly and separately on RGO, which favored the transfer of photogenerated electrons and holes towards an effective path. Compared with RGO-Cu 2 O and RGO-Bi 2 O 3 , the three-component RGO-Cu 2 O/Bi 2 O 3 composites presented a further improvement on the photodegradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light irradiation, which can be attributed to the construction of a Z-scheme photocatalytic system where the RGO served as a solid-state medium for the transfer of the photogenerated electrons from the conduction band of Bi 2 O 3 to the valence band of Cu 2 O.

Fast, reliable, and low-cost glucose detection methods are of great importance for the control of diabetes. In this study, Cu2O combined with Cu nanoparticles anchored on reduced graphene oxide (RGO), was synthesized to function as the electrode in a non-enzymatic glucose sensor. The synergistic effect between Cu nanoparticles and Cu2O, together with the high conductivity of RGO enabled considerably lower resistivity with greater glucose oxidation activity than pure Cu2O. The RGO@Cu2O@Cu electrode exhibited a high sensitivity of 1.112 mA mM−1 cm−2 with a detection limit of 0.019 μM, and the linear range is up to 4 mM. Additionally, the RGO@Cu2O@Cu electrode displayed good anti-interference performance within human blood and high stability while operating for a long duration. Significantly, the glucose detection capability of the as-designed electrode was comparable to commercial sensors, representing a valuable design for future non-enzymatic glucose sensing.
