A Full-Color Textile Display with 122% sRGB Gamut by Designing Three-Primary-Color Interwoven Pixels

Ke Chen,Yue Liu,Xiaokun Wang,Peiyu Liu,Chuyue Lei,Yuanyuan Zheng,Duo Li,Jingxia Wu,Bingjie Wang,Xuemei Sun,Peining Chen,Huisheng Peng

Textile displays—renowned for inherent flexibility and breathability—have emerged as a transformative platform for next-generation wearables and IoT integration. Despite substantial advancements, achieving dynamically tunable color display remains a critical challenge for effective information interaction. Here, this limitation is addressed through a woven architecture that integrates luminescent warp fibers with light-conversion conductive weft fibers, creating a three-primary-color electroluminescent pixel array where each unit contains precisely arranged red (R), green (G), and blue (B) interlaced subpixels. These subpixels demonstrate exceptional spectral purity with full-width at half-maximum values as low as 37 nm—comparable to quantum dot light-emitting diodes. The resultant pixel units achieve full-color display with a color gamut covering 122% of the sRGB standard, representing a 344% enhancement over conventional alternating current electroluminescence devices. Standard-like white light emission is achieved through precise control of RGB luminance ratios. A 5 × 5 cm 2 prototype textile display demonstrates multicolored text/image displaying via row scanning driving circuitry, while system-level integration with fiber biosensors enables health monitoring through color-coded heart rate visualization. This textile display is stable and durable to withstand 1,000 cycles of deformations like bending, stretching, twisting, and pressing. This work establishes a material-to-system framework for seamlessly embedding color displays into textiles.
