Baby primrose (Primula forbesii) is a newly cultivated and valuable ornamental plant with great market potential for both indoor and landscape use. As a container plant, baby primrose has long, weak flower stalks that can easily lodge, resulting in poor-quality plants, especially during transportation. To control plant height and subsequently prevent flower peduncle lodging, we investigated the effects of two plant growth regulators (PGRs), chlormequat chloride (CCC) at 0, 250, 500, or 750 ppm and uniconazole (UNI) at 25, 50, or 75 ppm on growth, development, and flowering of two cultivars of baby primrose, Fragrant Luolan and Red Star. Plant growth regulators at the proposed concentrations were applied twice throughout the experiment. Both PGRs significantly suppressed plant height in both cultivars, with a 16% to 27% reduction by CCC and 50% to 59% by UNI compared with untreated plants. Among CCC-treated groups, plants were shortest when CCC was applied at 500 ppm; plant height was suppressed more when treated with UNI. In both cultivars, UNI significantly suppressed the first, second, and third peduncle lengths. Furthermore, CCC affected peduncle length, but to a lesser extent than UNI. Plant growth regulator applications generally had little effect on flower characteristics of baby primrose. Neither PGRs influenced the inflorescence number and flower size; however, PGRs did increase the number of floral whorls and suppressed pedicel length of ‘Red Star’. New leaf growth was suppressed by both PGRs. In addition, peduncle cell length and width were both significantly suppressed by PGR applications. We concluded that two foliar applications of UNI at 25 ppm comprised the most effective method of controlling baby primrose plant height while maintaining desirable flower traits at a relatively low production cost. Results of this study provide guidance for techniques that can be used to effectively control the plant height of potted baby primrose for commercial greenhouse production.

Mimotope-based immunoassays offer an eco-friendly alternative to chemically synthesized antigens for the quantitative analysis of small molecules, but their use for practical on-site and high-throughput residue monitoring remains limited. Herein, we report the selection, production, and application of a phage display–derived mimotope targeting an anti-uniconazole monoclonal antibody (UCZ-mAb), with the aim of developing two complementary immunoassays that enable sensitive, eco-friendly detection of UCZ residues in agricultural samples. A 12-mer phage-displayed peptide library was screened to identify UCZ-specific mimotopes, and a selected sequence was genetically fused to SpyTag and expressed inEscherichia colito generate a SpyTagged mimotope. Leveraging the SpyCatcher/SpyTag self-assembly system, the SpyTagged mimotope was directionally conjugated onto SpyCatcher-functionalized time-resolved fluorescence beads (TRFBs) and subsequently used as a signal-labeled competitive antigen in a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) designed for rapid on-site screening. In parallel, a wash-free magnetic separation immunoassay (MSIA) suitable for green, high-throughput screening in routine laboratories was established using self-assembled mimotope-TRFB probes. The LFIA and MSIA exhibited half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of 3.70–6.72 μg/kg and 16.4–18.3 μg/kg, respectively, in real samples. Spiked-sample recoveries ranged from 91.1 to 107.8% for LFIA and 92.6–115.7% for MSIA, demonstrating acceptable accuracy and precision. These results indicate that the SpyTagged mimotope–based LFIA and MSIA provide complementary, reliable, and sensitive platforms for on-site screening and high-throughput monitoring of UCZ residues in agricultural samples, while avoiding the drawbacks associated with traditional chemical antigen synthesis.

Corrosion inhibitors play a vital role in impeding the corrosion process of steel bars within concrete structures exposed to corrosive environments. Nevertheless, conventional corrosion inhibitors pose environmental risks. In contrast, contemporary studies have explored corrosion inhibitors that are eco-friendly. However, these inhibitors are burdened by high costs and complex production processes, impeding the widespread application in concrete structures. Consequently, this study presents an innovative solution by incorporating uniconazole, an agricultural fungicide, as a corrosion inhibitor for steel bars in concrete structures. The steel bars were exposed to corrosion within a simulated concrete pore solution containing 0.6 mol/L NaCl, both with and without the presence of uniconazole. The morphology and hydrophilicity of the steel bar surface were investigated via optical microscope and contact angle experiments. Electrochemical tests (open circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Mott-Schottky analysis) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to investigate the corrosion inhibition performance and mechanism of uniconazole. The results demonstrate that uniconazole elevates the hydrophobicity and contributes to the corrosion inhibition of steel bars. Electrochemical test results indicate that as the concentration of uniconazole increases from 1 × 10 −4 mol/L to 1 × 10 −3 mol/L, the inhibition efficiency likewise demonstrates a corresponding increase, escalating from around 50 %–90 %. Uniconazole molecules function as mixed-type inhibitors, exhibiting characteristics of both anode-type and cathode-type inhibitors. The adsorption of uniconazole enhances the stability and thickness of the passive-adsorbed layer on the steel surface, effectively impeding the charge transfer process and obstructing the interaction of corrosive substances with the base metal. In summary, the application of uniconazole exhibits the highlights of efficient, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and the potential for scalable production. This positions uniconazole as a promising candidate for use as a corrosion inhibitor in the domain of concrete structures.

A simple and sensitive method for the simultaneous quantitation of prohexadione-Ca and uniconazole in the field experiment ofOryza sativaL. andCitrus reticulataBlanco was established using solid-phase extraction (SPE) with polymer anion exchange (PAX) and Florisil followed by LC-MS/MS. The method demonstrated excellent linearity (R2> 0.999 0), trueness (recoveries between 95~105%), precision (CVs between 0.8~12%), sensitivity, and repeatability (LOQ of 0.05 and 0.01 mg/kg, respectively). Residue tests were conducted in the field at 12 representative sites in China, revealing final concentrations of prohexadione-Ca and uniconazole in brown rice, rice hull, and rice straw to be below 0.05 mg/kg, while in whole citrus fruit and citrus pulp, they were below 0.01 mg/kg. These were below the maximum residue limits specified in China. The chronic dietary risks of prohexadione-Ca and uniconazole in rice crops and citrus fruits were calculated to be 0.48% and 0.91%, respectively. Our research suggests that the chronic risk associated with the daily consumption of rice crops and citrus fruit at the recommended dosage is acceptable. Keywords:Oryza sativaL.;citrus fruit;dietary intake risk assessment;plant growth regulators
