Blood phosphorus mainly refers to inorganic phosphorus in the blood, existing in the form of inorganic phosphate salts. The concentrations of calcium and phosphorus in plasma are closely related; when expressed in mg/dL, their product ([Ca] × [P]) is 30–40. When ([Ca] × [P]) > 40, calcium and phosphorus are deposited in bone tissue as bone salt; if ([Ca] × [P]) < 35, bone calcification is impaired, and bone salt may even dissolve, affecting osteogenesis. The relative stability of blood calcium and blood phosphorus levels depends on the relative balance between the absorption and excretion of calcium and phosphorus, and between calcification and decalcification. These balances are regulated by hormones such as vitamin D₃, parathyroid hormone, and calcitonin. Determination principle: After removing organic phosphorus from serum, inorganic phosphate salts react with ammonium molybdate reagent to form phosphomolybdic acid, which is reduced by ferrous sulfate to produce a blue color with light absorption at 620 nm. The phosphorus content in blood is calculated by measuring the absorbance at 620 nm.
