Serum sodium plays an important role in maintaining normal extracellular fluid volume, osmotic pressure, and the acid-base balance of body fluids. Determination Principle: Sodium in serum reacts with potassium pyroantimonate reagent in a weakly alkaline solution to form a precipitate. The amount of precipitate is proportional to the sodium concentration, and the serum sodium content can be determined based on the turbidity.
