Simple identification experiments of plant peroxidases

Summary

Catalase is a hemoglobin-like enzyme that contains iron in its composition and catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and molecular oxygen. During this process, the iron atoms in the cofactor undergo alternating oxidizing and reducing changes.

Operation method

Simple identification experiments of plant peroxidases

Materials and Instruments

Potato tubers
H2O2 Alcoholic solution of catechol
test tube

Move

Fresh potatoes were taken, peeled, cut into 5mm square pieces and divided into two groups and placed in 2 test tubes, one of the groups was boiled for 20 minutes and then 5ml of 3% H2O2 solution was added to each to observe what changes were observed and explained.
