Simple identification experiments of plant peroxidases

Summary

Peroxidases are metalloproteins containing iron in the porphyrin ring. Peroxidase forms a compound with hydrogen peroxide in which the hydrogen peroxide is activated so that it can oxidize phenolic compounds, acting as a receptor for hydrogen.

Operation method

Simple identification experiments of plant peroxidases

Principle

Peroxidases are metalloproteins containing iron in the porphyrin ring. Peroxidase forms a compound with hydrogen peroxide in which the hydrogen peroxide is activated so that it can oxidize phenolic compounds, acting as a receptor for hydrogen.

Materials and Instruments

Potato tubers
Alcoholic solution of catechol H2O2
test tube

Move

Potato tubers, chopped, were added to two test tubes, one of which was boiled for a few minutes, and then 10 drops of freshly prepared 1.5% catechol alcoholic solution and 5 ml of 3% H2O2 solution were added to each, and if brown coloration occurred, the presence of peroxidase was indicated.

Take another test tube and add only H2O2 and catechol alcohol solution and observe the results.
