Select two germinating seeds of maize with good root growth and trim them with scissors, leaving one straight young root (1.5-2cm in length is suitable). Dry the roots with filter paper, and then draw ten lines from the tip of the root with drawing ink, one millimeter apart from each other. Be careful not to injure the young roots when drawing the lines. When the ink is dry, wrap the seed with a small amount of cotton, fix the seed in the mouth of the test tube containing half a tube of water, so that the root tip is facing down, and take a small strip of filter paper, one end of which is draped into the water in the tube, and the other end is in contact with the seed, so as to avoid the seed from absorbing the water and affecting the growth of the root. Place the test tube in a thermostat at 25°C and observe the growth of the roots after 1-2 days, as indicated by the plot. Measure the distance between the lines and record it in a list, indicating in which part of the young root the area of root growth is located.
