1. Thinning of the gastric mucosa, atrophy of the intrinsic glands (reduction in size and number), and cystic dilatation of some residual glands.

2. chronic inflammatory cell infiltration is seen at the site of atrophy, and the gastric epithelium or glands are replaced by intestinal epithelium or glands (intestinal epithelial hyperplasia).
