谷氨酸脱羧酶（Glutamate Decarboxylase，GAD）是将谷氨酸转化成抑制性神经递质γ-氨基丁酸（GABA）的限速酶，γ-氨基丁酸是中枢神经系统中有效的抑制性神经递质，具有降血压、增进脑活力、营养神经细胞、保持神经安定、促进生长激素分泌和保肝利肾等作用，目前在医药和保健食品中已有广泛的应用。在该试剂盒中，GAD 催化谷氨酸产生 GABA，利用 berthelot 反应测定GABA 含量，从而测定GAD活性。
Glutamate Decarboxylase (GAD) is the rate-limiting enzyme that converts glutamate into the inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA is a potent inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, exhibiting various physiological effects such as lowering blood pressure, enhancing brain activity, nourishing nerve cells, promoting neural calmness, stimulating growth hormone secretion, and supporting liver and kidney function. Consequently, it has found wide applications in pharmaceuticals and health food products. In this assay kit, GAD catalyzes the conversion of glutamate to GABA. The Berthelot reaction is then employed to determine the GABA content, thereby allowing for the measurement of GAD activity.
