Ham's F-12 Nutrient Mixture was designed by Ham in 1969 based on Ham's F‑10 Nutrient Mixture, originally for serum‑free culture of CHO cells. Ham's F‑12 is often used as a basal medium for serum‑free culture; under low‑serum conditions, it is particularly suitable for single‑cell culture and clonal culture. With serum supplementation, it is also widely used for the culture of cancer cells and primary cells, such as rat hepatocytes, rat prostate epithelial cells, chondrocytes, rat myoblasts, chicken embryo cells, and others. Moreover, when Ham's F‑12 is mixed with DMEM in equal volumes, the resulting DMEM/F12 medium is more nutritionally enriched and more broadly applied.
This product contains multiple components required for cell culture, including amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, etc.; however, it contains no proteins, lipids, or any growth factors. Therefore, this product must be used with serum or serum‑free supplements.
