Lipoprotein lipase is an enzyme synthesized by parenchymal cells such as adipocytes, cardiomyocytes, skeletal muscle cells, mammary gland cells, and macrophages. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of triglycerides into fatty acids and monoglycerides, which are then utilized by tissues for oxidative energy production or storage. This enzyme exhibits different physiological significances in various tissues.
Assay Principle: Lipoprotein lipase hydrolyzes 4-nitrophenyl palmitate to produce 4-nitrophenol, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 400 nm.
