Graphical We realized in-situ fabrication of amorphous Cu–Co–P nanofilms on CuCo 2 O 4 nanoarrays by cathodic electrochemical reduction to efficiently catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline solution. The catalyst needs an overpotential of only 104 mV at 20 mA cm –2 in 1.0 m KOH and presents good durability for at least 24 h. We demonstrate an efficient in-situ method to fabricate amorphous Cu–Co–P nanofilms on CuCo 2 O 4 nanoarrays by cathodic electrochemical reduction. These are used to catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline solution. The catalyst needs an overpotential of only 104 mV in 1.0 m KOH when the current density is 20 mA cm –2 . More importantly, it has good durability for at least 24 h. This method provides an effective approach to develop a nonprecious metal catalyst for industrial hydrogen evolution.
