摘要
Bacterial invasions pose major challenges to various aspects of human production and daily life, continuous exploration of antibacterial agents and the design of effective antibacterial materials are urgently needed. Herein, based on the diverse biological activity of oxazine compounds, a biobased benzoxazine monomer (PY-f) was successfully synthesized using renewable furfurylamine and pyrogallol as raw materials. The PY-f monomer exhibits excellent antibacterial activity, the relationship between its structural changes during the ring-opening reaction and antibacterial properties was discussed in detail. The experimental results indicate that its antibacterial activity is weakened with the ring-opening ratio of the oxazine ring. It is speculated that the antibacterial mechanism of PY-f is the synergistic effect of the electron-withdrawing oxazine ring and furan ring. Moreover, incorporating PY-f into polyethylene (PE) to create antibacterial polymer materials reveals that the PE/PY-f composites exhibit outstanding antibacterial properties within the processing temperature range of 140–190 °C, along with long-term antibacterial potential. Notably, the evolution of the molecular structure of PY-f during thermal processing brings simultaneous improvements in toughness and modulus to modified PE, as well as interesting surface hydrophilic and hydrophobic conversion. This study validates the effective antibacterial properties of benzoxazines and provides a feasible strategy for the design and development of antibacterial polymers.
