摘要
Concentrated natural rubber latex is a vital industrial and biomedical material, but its production generates raw skim latex (RSL), a by-product with low dry rubber content and high nonrubber components (NRCs) that limit its utility. Conventional concentration methods face challenges like membrane fouling, high cost, and complex operation. To address this, we developed a green concentration strategy using superabsorbent polymer (SAP) beads. This method simultaneously absorbed water and selectively removed NRCs from RSL. After a single treatment, the total solids content of the concentrated latex increased to 37.24%, while the NRCs content was significantly reduced to 5.21%. This reduction in NRCs altered the polymer network, leading to a remarkable tensile strength of 22.39 MPa in the vulcanized films. Furthermore, the SAP beads maintained high efficiency over five reuse cycles. This work establishes a simple, cost-effective, and sustainable process for producing high-value concentrated skim latex.
