摘要
The quartz mineral was separated from its mixture with the feldspar mineral using a selective flotation method. Trimethyl Tetradecyl Ammonium Chloride (TTAC) was used for the first time as a selective collector for quartz minerals to overcome the challenge posed by its similar physical and chemical properties to feldspar minerals. A comparative study was conducted using Dodecyl Amine hydrochloride (DAC) as a traditional collector. Micro-flotation was used to investigate the flotation behavior of each mineral. Flotation parameters, including pH, conditioning time, and collector dosage, were also investigated. In this study, Trimethyl Tetradecyl Ammonium Chloride (TTAC) was developed, which offers multiple efficacies. This reagent has low usage, excellent water solubility, and ultrahigh separation efficiency owing to the simultaneous generation of hydrogen bonds, electrostatic interactions, and steric hindrance. Under weakly alkaline conditions (pH 7), TTAC produced a quartz concentrate with a significantly higher SiO 2 grade (98.45 % compared to 91.86 % with DAC) and lower impurity grades (K 2 O, Na 2 O, and Al 2 O 3 ) than DAC, demonstrating its superior selectivity for floating quartz over feldspar compared to DAC. Well-concentrated feldspar in the sink product was obtained from a binary mixture via reverse flotation using the TTAC collector. FTIR spectroscopy, contact angle and zeta potential measurements, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to investigate and confirm TTAC’s greater affinity of TTAC for quartz surfaces compared to feldspar. The increased atomic concentrations of C1s and N1s on quartz after TTAC treatment, relative to those on feldspar, further supports this effect. DFT calculations indicate that the difference in TTAC adsorption energy between the quartz and the feldspar surfaces is 1.5 eV (DAC is only 0.2 eV).Therefore, TTAC has significant potential as a highly selective collector for the separation of feldspar from quartz.
