摘要
Cartap is introduced for the first time as an aqueous-phase additive in PIP/TMC interfacial polymerization. • The membrane exhibits a PWP of 14.80 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 with 97.37% Na 2 SO 4 rejection. • The membrane shows excellent antifouling performance with a FRR of 93.68%. • Simultaneous performance enhancement is achieved via optimized pore uniformity and retained electrostatic exclusion. To overcome the long-standing trade-off between water permeance and solute rejection in polyamide nanofiltration membranes and to improve their fouling resistance, cartap is introduced for the first time as an aqueous-phase additive into the interfacial polymerization system of piperazine and trimesoyl chloride in this work. It is demonstrated that cartap successfully grafts into the polyamide network (denoted as NH 2 -PA), significantly enhancing surface hydrophilicity. The optimized NH 2 -PA membrane achieves a pure water permeance of 14.80 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 , which is 98.7% higher than that of the unmodified PA membrane, while maintaining a high Na 2 SO 4 rejection of 97.37%, thus effectively breaking the permeability-selectivity trade-off. The rejection sequence follows Na 2 SO 4 > MgSO 4 > MgCl 2 > NaCl, governed by the synergistic effects of steric hindrance and Donnan electrostatic exclusion. Moreover, the NH 2 -PA membrane exhibits excellent long-term stability over 72 h of continuous operation and superior antifouling performance, with a flux recovery ratio of 93.68% after three bovine serum albumin fouling-cleaning cycles. This work demonstrates that cartap-mediated interfacial polymerization provides a promising strategy for the simultaneous enhancement of water permeance, selectivity, and fouling resistance in polyamide nanofiltration membranes, offering a viable molecular engineering approach for water purification and desalination applications.
