In this study, laser-assisted micro-arc oxidation (LMAO) processing was carried out on Ti6Al4V alloy under laser powers of 30, 45, and 60 W, and the influence of the laser power on the microstructure and wear resistance of the coating was further investigated. The breakdown voltage and termination voltages of LMAO processing decrease gradually as the laser power increases. At the same time, micro-discharges increase in quantity. Within the suitable laser power range (30–45 W), the obtained coating continuously enhances uniformity, thickness, and density with rising power, contributing to higher hardness and adhesion strength . However, raising laser power to 60 W will damage the obtained coating due to the violent micro-discharges, which generate interconnected larger pores in the local area. Laser power also affects the coating's reaction process and phase transition. More electrolyte ions dope into the coating as a consequence of increasing laser power. The Si concentration of the LMAO-45 coating is the highest, whereas that of the LMAO-60 coating comparatively reduces due to localized coating detachment. Moreover, enhancing laser power is more conducive to forming SiO 2 and rutile-TiO 2 phases. Compared with the traditional MAO or other LMAO coatings, the LMAO-45 coating significantly improves wear protection, evidenced by the lowest COF value , the minimum wear rate, and the least peeling during the wear test . Low porosity, surface roughness , high thickness, and increased incorporation of the SiO 2 phase are responsible for the same. However, under 60 W of laser irradiation , the wear resistance of the resultant LMAO coating decreased due to the formation of local damaged areas.

MAO of Ti–2.5Ag yields micro-porous TiO₂ with enhanced roughness and hydrophilicity. • MAO porous structure sustains sub-cytotoxic Ag⁺ multiphasic release over 7 days. • MAO + Ag surface reduces P. gingivalis biofilm despite enhanced hydrophilicity. • Protein leakage confirms Ag⁺–SH membrane disruption as the bactericidal mechanism. • Ti–2.5Ag + MAO offers dual infection resistance with osseointegration-safe surface. Titanium implants remain susceptible to bacterial colonization by Porphyromonas gingivalis , a keystone pathogen in peri-implantitis, and although silver (Ag) incorporation and micro-arc oxidation (MAO) have each been explored individually, their combined effect on low-silver titanium alloys against anaerobic oral pathogens remains poorly characterized. This study fabricated CP-Ti, Ti–2.5Ag (Ti+Ag), and MAO-treated Ti–2.5Ag (Ti+Ag+MAO) surfaces and evaluated their physicochemical properties and antibacterial performance against P. gingivalis over seven days. MAO generated a micro-porous TiO₂ oxide layer (32.6% porosity) incorporating phosphorus and silicon, significantly increasing roughness Ra = 0.0846 µm; p < 0.01) and hydrophilicity (contact angle: 36.33°–41.34°; p < 0.05) versus CP-Ti. Cumulative Ag⁺ release from Ti + Ag + MAO reached 0.844 ppb by day 7, approximately twice that of Ti + Ag (0.399 ppb; p < 0.05), following a multiphasic release profile. Against P. gingivalis , Ti + Ag + MAO achieved adherent bacterial inhibition exceeding 91% by day 7 (versus 73% for Ti+Ag), with dead-cell percentages rising from 57.56% to 76.25% (p < 0.001 vs. both comparators). Crystal violet and protein leakage assays confirmed sustained anti-biofilm activity and progressive membrane disruption (p < 0.01–0.001), consistent with the observed Ag⁺ release kinetics. These findings demonstrate that MAO synergistically amplifies the antibacterial efficacy of Ti–2.5Ag through combined anti-adhesive and sustained ion-release-mediated mechanisms, establishing Ti + Ag + MAO as a promising multifunctional strategy for reducing peri-implant infections.

Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) has gained widespread adoption in aluminum alloy protection due to their remarkable corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, the inherent microporous defects of MAO layer persist in exposing the substrate to corrosive damage during operational conditions. While silane-based sealing techniques have emerged as a promising solution for these defects, their practical implementation still faces critical challenges including insufficient defect-filling capacity and compromised mechanical durability. The present work employs electrochemical-assisted method that selectively generates hydroxyl/hydroxide ions at microporous defect sites within the MAO layer. Such local alkalinization conditions enable the directed assembly of silane hydrolysis products, driving interfacial adhesion-condensation reactions to achieve in situ silane film deposition with spatial selectivity. The optimized sealing system demonstrates a 50 % improvement in long-term corrosion resistance (150 MΩ·cm 2 ) compared to conventional impregnation methods, accompanied by significantly enhanced self-cleaning, wear-resistant property. This provides a solution for the multifunctional anti-corrosion, wear-resistant, self-cleaning of aluminum alloy surfaces.

Titanium (Ti) oral implants, as foreign bodies, can easily trigger an inflammatory response, and the metal ions/nanoparticles released by friction/corrosion in the body can also damage soft and hard tissues, leading to implant failure. To make up for deficiencies, a multifunctional composite coating composed of silica (SiO 2 ) particles and zirconium hydrogen phosphate (ZrP) on the surface of Ti was prepared by combining micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and sol-gel technology. The characterization results of the surface physicochemical properties confirmed that a series of SiO 2 /ZrP-modified MAO coatings were successfully constructed. Compared with the control group, the doping of SiO 2 particles effectively improved the friction resistance of the surface MAO coating, but worsened its corrosion resistance . After the surface was further covered with ZrP coating, the corrosion resistance defect caused by SiO 2 particles was eliminated. With the increase of the ZrP thickness, the friction resistance of the target sample increased gradually. In addition, the specimens coated by ZrP coatings also presented better anti-inflammatory and osteogenic capabilities than the samples subjected to pure/SiO 2 -doped MAO treatment. Based on these advantageous properties, this novel composite coating may project good application prospects in promoting early osseointegration.

In this paper, a novel Mn 3 O 4 /MnO nano spherical transition metal compound as bi-functional catalyst for air electrode of lithium-oxygen battery is prepared by vacuum direct current arc method. Through physical property characterization , it shows that the Mn 3 O 4 /MnO particle size can be controlled between 40 and 60 nm and evenly distributed inside the carbon material. In addition, photoluminescence test result indicates that this material has better electronic conductivity and catalytic activity than traditional MnO 2 catalyst owing to some defects in the crystal structure. The cyclic voltammetry results display that the oxidation and reduction reactions are both very obvious even at high scanning rate, although only one kind of catalyst is employed in the air electrode. This proves that the Mn 3 O 4 /MnO nano spherical transition metal compound can be as a bi-functional catalytic material. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy also displays that the charge transfer resistance of Mn 3 O 4 /MnO catalyst is smaller and the ion diffusion speed is faster. Through charge and discharge test, it can be concluded that the voltage platform of the lithium-oxygen battery with Mn 3 O 4 /MnO as bi-functional catalyst is flat and the discharge voltage can reach 2.7 V. The specific energy can reach 7102 Wh·kg −1 at 0.025 mA cm −2 current density and a capacity limit of 1000 mAh·g −1 , it can carry out the 31 non capacity decay charge and discharge cycles.

In this study, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate was used as a stabilizer, and NaOH, TBHP, and benzoyl chloride were used as reactants in the preparation of tert–butyl peroxybenzoate (TBPB) using a two–step process. The process conditions were optimized by a three–factor, three–level Box–Behnken design approach. The results showed that the yield of TBPB achieved 88.93% under the optimum conditions of temperature of 31.50 °C, feeding time of 22.00 min, and NaOH concentration of 15%. The exothermic properties of the synthesis of TBPB were investigated using reaction calorimetry. The thermal decomposition characteristics of reactants and products were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC), and the changes in substance types, characteristic peaks, and exothermic quantities during the reaction were analyzed before and after the reaction by FTIR. The reaction mechanism was proposed by combining EasyMax 102, RC1e, gas chromatography (GC), and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). A comprehensive study of the reaction mechanism and reaction exotherm was carried out using density functional theory (DFT) to predict the reaction energy change and the direction of the reaction and to determine whether the reaction was reversible or not. The risk level for the synthesis of TBPB in semi–batch mode was evaluated using a risk matrix and the Stoessel criticality diagram. The optimal conditions for the TBPB synthesis process in a plate microreactor were explored. Both microreactors and semi–batch modes were comparatively analyzed using the m–ITHI quantitative assessment method. The results indicated a hazard class 2 in semi–batch mode and a hazard class 1 in the microreactor. The results of the study may provide a reference for the further improvement of the intrinsically safe design of the synthetic TBPB process.
