By blending P(VDF-TrFE) with PVDF-HFP and introducing a small amount of ZnO, a composite film system with both mechanical flexibility and electrical responsiveness was constructed. The effects of the TrFE/HFP ratio and hot rolling temperature on the mechanical behavior and strain-induced electrical response of the films were systematically studied. The results show that the introduction of HFP improves film ductility, while a higher TrFE content enhances load bearing capability and electrical response. Among the investigated compositions, the TrFE80/HFP20 composite containing 1.08 wt % surface-modified ZnO showed a good balance between electrical response and mechanical compliance. After hot rolling, the films processed at 65 °C showed stable mechanical behavior at low to moderate strain and produced clear open circuit voltage signals under stretching. Clear electrical signals were also observed under thermal perturbation. Based on these results, the selected composite film was used to fabricate flexible strain sensors, demonstrating promising potential for practical applications.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP)-based solid polymer electrolytes show great potential for high energy lithium metal batteries, however, the residual solvent and related severe side reactions limit its development. Herein, a PVDF-HFP-based solid polymer electrolyte modified by fluorobenzene (FB) co-solvent is designed to address these problems. The introduced FB with weak solvation interaction regulates the coordination environment and induces anions to enter the solvation structure, generating more contact ion pairs (CIPs) and aggregates (AGGs). In addition, the anions-derived LiF-rich interphases help to improve the interface stability against Li metal. As a result, the FB-PVDF-HFP achieves high ionic conductivity (4.1 × 10 −4 S/cm) and low activation energy (0.125 eV) at room temperature. In addition, Li||Li symmetric cells using FB-PVDF-HFP electrolyte can achieve uniform and dendrite-free lithium deposition/stripping in the long-term cycling over 2300 h. The assembled solid-state Li|FB-PVDF-HFP|LFP full cell shows improved rate performance and cycling performance (600 cycles at 0.5 C and 450 cycles at 3 C) at room temperature. This work verifies the feasibility of fluorinated terminated solid polymer electrolytes on its lithium-ion transport and interfacial stability in lithium metal batteries.

The global transition to green energy has precipitated a surge in the demand for lithium resources. However, terrestrial lithium reserves are limited and unevenly distributed. While the ocean harbors abundant lithium, its ultralow concentration and the interference from high concentrations of background ions pose significant challenges for efficient extraction. This study introduces a strategy for lithium extraction from seawater, leveraging the synergistic effect of a flexible LLZO/PVDF-HFP composite membrane and a TEMPO redox couple. A cubic phase garnet-type Li6.5Ga0.25La2.75Ba0.25Zr2O12 (LLZO) solid electrolyte, prepared via a sol–gel method, was compounded with PVDF-HFP to create a flexible membrane with high lithium-ion selectivity. With integration into a redox flow device, the TEMPO redox couple drives the transmembrane migration of lithium ions. The effects of the applied voltage, TEMPO concentration, and operating time on the lithium extraction performance were systematically investigated. At an optimal constant voltage of 1.5 V, the lithium concentration in the enriched solution reached 20.6 times that of the initial seawater. The system demonstrated excellent selectivity with Li/Na, Li/Ca, and Li/Mg selectivity factors of 2309.3, 11164.2, and 3808.9, respectively. After 72 h of continuous lithium extraction, the Li+ concentration in the recovered solution reached 130.6 times that of the feed, with an average energy consumption as low as 34.1 Wh/g(Li). This research demonstrates a promising path for the development of low-cost, highly selective seawater lithium extraction technologies.

A solid-state polymer electrolyte membrane is formed by blending poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) with the synthesized copolymer of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-1-vinyl-3-butyl-imidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, in which lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide molecules are applied as the source of lithium ions. The accordingly formed membrane that contains 14 wt.% of P(MMA-co-VBIm-TFSI), 56 wt.% of PVDF-HFP, and 30 wt.% of LiTFSI manifests the best electrochemical properties, achieving an ionic conductivity of 1.11 × 10−4S·cm−1at 30 °C and 4.26 × 10−4S·cm−1at 80 °C, a Li-ion transference number of 0.36, and a wide electrochemical stability window of 4.7 V (vs. Li/Li+). The thus-assembled all-solid-state lithium-ion battery of LiFePO4/SPE/Li delivers a discharge specific capacity of 148 mAh·g−1in the initial charge–discharge cycle at 0.1 C under 60 °C. The capacity retention of the cell is 95.2% after 50 cycles at 0.1 C and the Coulombic efficiency remains close to 100% during the cycling process. Keywords:solid polymer electrolyte;all-solid-state;lithium-ion battery;ion conduction;polymer composite

Polyethylene (PE) nonwovens produced via flash spunbonding are widely used in personal protective equipment (PPE) and construction due to their excellent mechanical strength, barrier properties, and balanced water-vapor permeability. However, conventional PE-based protective materials often experience significant heat and moisture buildup during extended use in high-temperature environments, leading to discomfort, excessive perspiration, and even heat stress. Here, we developed radiative cooling PE nonwovens (PE-P/SiO2) by applying a polyvinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP)/silicon dioxide (SiO2) hierarchical porous coating via a non-solvent-induced phase separation method. The resulting structure endows the PE nonwovens with high solar reflectance (93.8%) and strong MIR emissivity (96.4%), achieving a cooling effect of up to ∼13 °C under direct sunlight, significantly outperforming conventional PE nonwovens and cotton fabrics. Moreover, the PE-P/SiO2 nonwovens exhibit excellent self-cleaning ability, washing durability, and UV resistance, ensuring long-term performance. These radiative cooling PE nonwovens present a promising solution for enhancing thermal management in PPE and other heat-sensitive applications.

Solid polymer electrolytes are promising candidates to replace the extensively used flammable liquid electrolytes in lithium batteries. However, pure polymer electrolytes seldom meet practical requirements because of their relatively low ionic conductivity and poor mechanical properties. Herein, we report a garnet (Li 6.4 La 3 Zr 1.4 Ta 0.6 O 12 , LLZTO)-doped composite polymer electrolyte (CPE) membrane for high performance lithium batteries. The CPE is composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (POEGMA) polymer with the addition of ceramic particles LLZTO. It not only has high ionic conductivity of 1.00 × 10 −3 S cm −1 after the activation of liquid electrolyte at room temperature, but also surprisingly restrains the growth of Li dendrites. Its electrochemical stability window is up to 4.7 V (vs. Li + /Li). Moreover, LiFePO 4 /Li batteries using the CPE exhibit excellent cycling performance and superior rate capability.

Flexible nanostructured sensors that combine electrical conductivity, mechanical robustness, and multimodal recognition capability are crucial for next-generation wearable electronics and intelligent human-machine interfaces. This study reports a dual-mode flexible sensor based on a bilayer PEDOT(MXene)-PVDF(HFP) composite membrane (denoted as PMPH), rationally designed via electrochemical polymerization and solvent-driven interface regulation. Through dual-dopant optimization and dimethyl sulfoxide-induced structural rearrangement, the PEDOT chains exhibit a transition from benzenoid to quinoid configurations, while MXene nanosheets provide a highly conductive and mechanically resilient framework. The resulting PMPH membrane displays superior conductivity, large stretchability (up to 1200%), and stable pressure and strain responses. The dual-mode flexible sensor not only distinguishes stretching and pressing behaviors but also achieves an intelligent classification accuracy of 92.13% through a machine-learning-assisted data recognition model. This study demonstrates a simple yet efficient strategy to couple conductive polymer-MXene hybrids with flexible fluoropolymers, bridging materials design and intelligent sensing toward advanced wearable devices.

Gel-polymer electrolytes (GPEs) are of great interest to build high-performing rechargeable electrical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) owing to the combination of good electrochemical properties and improved safety. Herein, we report a quasi-solid-state GPE for EDLCs from a mixture of the poly (vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoro propylene) (PVDF-HFP) and ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazole tetrafluoroborate ([EMIM][BF 4 ]), which avoids the leakage of liquid electrolyte and the low conductivity of common solid electrolyte . The intermolecular forces of GPE was characterized by in-situ infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and the interactions between ionic liquid and polymer were also analyzed. The prepared GPE was observed to be easily procurable, excellent transparency, high thermal safety (thermal stability up to 320 °C) and outstanding electrochemical properties at room temperature (wide electrochemical stability window of 3.91 V versus SS (SS being stainless steel foils) and high ionic conductivity of 6.9 × 10 −3 S cm −1 ). The specific capacitance, the maximum specific energy, and the maximum specific power of the fabricated symmetrical supercapacitor had been determined to be 161.8 F g −1 , 89.89 Wh kg −1 , and 8 kW kg −1 , respectively. Moreover, the EDLC shows extraordinary electrochemical behaviors and cyclic stability over up to 10 000 cycles at 25 °C with 86% capacitance retention under a current load of 2 A g −1 . The experimental results indicate the excellent potential of the [EMIM][BF 4 ] ionic-liquid-based gel polymer electrolyte for EDLCs.

Polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based polymer electrolytes hold promise for application in solid-state lithium metal batteries. However, the high crystallinity of PEO poses a significant challenge to ion transport, particularly limiting its room-temperature performance. Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), a semi-crystalline polymer with rigid fluorocarbon chains, can provide robust mechanical support to the electrolyte system. Herein, a quasi-solid electrolyte (QSE) was fabricated by using PEO and PVDF-HFP, in which succinonitrile (SN) was introduced as a plasticizer to enhance the electrochemical properties at room temperature. Innovatively, 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether (TTE) was employed as a shield layer to prevent direct contact between the Li anode and the prepared SN-modified PEO/PVDF-HFP-QSE, thus forming a stable anode/electrolyte interface. The obtained TTE-P 8 P 2 S(12%)-QSE exhibits high room-temperature electrochemical properties, with an ionic conductivity of 4.02 × 10 –4 S cm –1 , a lithium-ion transport number of 0.47, and a wide electrochemical window of 5.4 V vs. Li + /Li. By interfacial modification, TTE-P 8 P 2 S(12%)-QSE can enable long-term cycling of LiCoO 2 cathodes and Li anodes, with an initial discharge capacity of 126.9 mAh g –1 , and achieve an average capacity of 142.8 mAh g –1 within 100 cycles at room temperature. Characterizations reveal that the incorporation of TTE preserves the structural integrity of the lithium electrodes, promotes efficient utilization of active lithium ions, and tailors the composition and structure of the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) on the lithium metal anode, thereby substantially enhancing interfacial stability. This work provides a feasible strategy for building high-energy-density lithium metal batteries for room-temperature applications.

All-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) employing Li-rich layered oxide (LLO) cathodes are regarded as promising next-generation energy storage systems owing to their outstanding energy density and intrinsic safety. Polymer-in-salt solid electrolytes (PISSEs) offer advantages such as high room-temperature ionic conductivity, enhanced Li anode interfacial compatibility, and low processing costs; however, their practical deployment is hindered by poor oxidative stability especially under high-voltage conditions. In this study, we report the rational design of a bilayer electrolyte architecture featuring an in situ solidified LiClO4-doped succinonitrile (LiClO4–SN) plastic–crystal interlayer between a Li1.2Mn0.6Ni0.2O2(LMNO) cathode and a poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP)-based PISSE. This PISSE/SN–LiClO4configuration exhibits a wide electrochemical stability window up to 4.7 V vs. Li+/Li and delivers a high ionic conductivity of 5.68 × 10−4S cm−1at 25 °C. The solidified LiClO4-SN layer serves as an effective physical barrier, shielding the PVDF-HFP matrix from direct interfacial contact with LMNO and thereby suppressing its oxidative decomposition at elevated potentials. As a result, the bilayer polymer-based cells with the LMNO cathode demonstrate an initial discharge capacity of ∼206 mAh g−1at 0.05 C and exhibit good cycling stability with 85.7% capacity retention after 100 cycles at 0.5 C under a high cut-off voltage of 4.6 V. This work not only provides a promising strategy to enhance the compatibility of PVDF-HFP-based electrolytes with high-voltage cathodes through the facile in situ solidification of plastic interlayers but also promotes the application of LMNO cathode material in high-energy ASSLBs.

Polymer solid electrolytes (SPEs) based on the [solvate-Li + ] complex structure have promising prospects in lithium metal batteries (LMBs) due to their unique ion transport mechanism. However, the solvation structure may compromise the mechanical performance and safety, hindering practical application of SPEs. In this work, a composite solid electrolyte (CSE) is designed through the organic-inorganic synergistic interaction among N , N -dimethylformamide (DMF), polycarbonate (PC), and Mg 2 B 2 O 5 in poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP). Flame-retardant Mg 2 B 2 O 5 nanowires provide non-flammability to the prepared CSEs, and the addition of PC improves the dispersion of Mg 2 B 2 O 5 nanowires. Simultaneously, the organic-inorganic synergistic action of PC plasticizer and Mg 2 B 2 O 5 nanowires promotes the dissociation degree of LiTFSI and reduces the crystallinity of PVDF-HFP, enabling rapid Li ion transport. Additionally, Raman spectroscopy and DFT calculations confirm the coordination between Mg atoms in Mg 2 B 2 O 5 and N atoms in DMF, which exhibits Lewis base-like behavior attacking adjacent C–F and C–H bonds in PVDF-HFP while inducing dehydrofluorination of PVDF-HFP. Based on the synergistic coupling of Mg 2 B 2 O 5 , PC, and DMF in the PVDF-HFP matrix, the prepared CSE exhibits superior ion conductivity (9.78×10 −4 S cm −1 ). The assembled Li symmetric cells cycle stably for 3900 h at a current density of 0.1 mA cm −2 without short circuit. The LFP||Li cells assembled with PDL-Mg 2 B 2 O 5 /PC CSEs show excellent rate capability and cycling performance, with a capacity retention of 83.3% after 1000 cycles at 0.5 C. This work provides a novel approach for the practical application of organic-inorganic synergistic CSEs in LMBs.

Solid composite electrolytes (SCEs) are regarded as an effective solution to ensure safety and enhance the energy density of lithium-based batteries. This work reports an ultrathin SCE membrane (∼ 15 μm) based on Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12/PVDF-HFP/LiTFSI/succinonitrile; it not only possesses good ionic conductivity (6.53 × 10–4 S cm–1 with a little amount of liquid electrolyte) at 30 °C and a satisfactory lithium ion transfer number (0.55 without electrolyte), but also exhibits excellent thermal and mechanical properties. A symmetric cell with SCE succinonitrile-10% (SN-10%) can be continuously cycled without short circuit at 0.2 mA cm–2 for about 340 h. Moreover, a high reversible discharge capacity of 150.2 mAh g–1 at 0.5 C was maintained by the cell (LiFePO4/SCE SN-10%/Li) after 269 cycles at room temperature. Notably, a capacity of about 100 mAh g–1 at 5 C was also obtained. This work might guide the improvement of future solid-state lithium/sodium metal batteries and lithium–sulfur batteries, even for wearable flexible batteries.
