Phthalate plasticizers were typical petroleum-based plasticizers whose application was affected by their negative tendency to be transformed into more risky metabolites such as phthalic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (MEHP), which might not be conducive to sustainable development and human health. Therefore, the development of green bio-based plasticizers was an urgent need. Here, a new class of green bio-based plasticizer 2,3-diacetyl tartrate dialkyl esters (DATAE-C n ) was synthesized by using renewable tartaric acid (TA) as the main raw material, and its structure was characterized by FTIR and 1 H NMR. The plasticizing properties of different plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) films were investigated, compared with commercial plasticizers (DEHP and ATBC). The results indicated that PVC films plasticized with the DATAE-C n displayed apparently increased thermal stability, plasticizing effect, toughness and migration stability. The addition of DATAE-C n minimized the T g value of PVC from 88.5 to 38.5°C suggesting that the plasticizer had obvious plasticizing effect on PVC. Moreover, when DATAE-C n completely replaced the usage of DEHP on PVC, its initial decomposition temperature ( T i ) was increased by up to about 34°C. In particular, PVC/DATAE-C n exhibited prominent migration resistance in different solvent environments, which was received by solubility parameters analysis, leaching and volatilization tests. These results indicated that green bio-based plasticizer DATAE-C n had potential to replace phthalate plasticizers.

Due to its comprehensive properties, polyurethane elastomer (PU) plays a vital role in ships, construction, transportation facilities, and other fields. However, it is challenging to design polyurethane elastomer materials with good mechanical properties, self-healing ability, and degradable ability. Herein, a kind of polyurethane elastomer based on multiple hydrogen bond crosslinking was successfully synthesized by using polycaprolactone with substantial crystallization as a soft chain segment and introducing adipic dihydrazide (ADH) and U 2 -diol (a ureido-pyrimidinone with two hydroxyl groups at the end) to achieve ordered hydrogen bond assembly design and control. The elastomer has good tensile strength, healability, degradability, and solubility. The maximum tensile strength and toughness of the prepared polyurethane elastomer (PUAD) were 46.34 MPa and 687.66 MJ/m 3 , respectively. With the increase of U 2 -diol content, the self-repair efficiency was greatly enhanced. After seven repair cycles, the self-repair efficiency can still reach 66.88%. In addition, the bacterial degradation test using Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a strain showed that PUAD film had excellent degradability. The dissolution test with N , N -dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent showed that the tensile strength was almost unchanged after three dissolutions.

This work synthesized a series of biodegradable thermoplastic elastomer PBSFG via an esterification polycondensation reaction. The influence of the soft segment PEG molecular weight and component on the thermal behavior, mechanical property, and degradation performance of PBSFG were investigated. The results showed that the PEG component plays a major part in the properties of PBSFG. Upon reaching a PEG component concentration of 40% within PBSFG, the yielding phenomenon becomes imperceptible on the stress–strain curves, signifying the onset of a plastic-to-elastomer transition. In the case of PBSFG40-6k, a remarkable tensile strength of 23.5 MPa and an elongation at break measuring 576% were achieved, thereby displaying tensile properties on par with those of PBAT. Thanks to the unsaturated structure, the mechanical properties of PBSFG can be enhanced by UV irradiation. Finally, Candida cylindracea lipase catalytic degradation experiments showed that PBSFG is a biodegradable polyester, which is beneficial in reducing environmental plastic pollution.

Based on derivatization of commercial poly(ethylene- co -vinyl acetate) (EVA), novel macromolecular UV-absorbers with polyethylene (PE) backbones and ferrocene side groups are presented in this study. The structures and properties of the polymers were analyzed using various techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and UV visible absorption spectroscopy. UV analysis experiments have shown that PE-grafted ferrocenyl ester (PE- g -FE) and PE-grafted azacyclo-ferrocene (PE- g -AF) with ferrocene side groups have the potential to act as UV absorbers. By using the polymers as additives for commercial PE, the anti-migration experiment demonstrates that PE- g -AF, with a heterocyclic structure, exhibits superior anti-migration performance than the ester-linked PE- g -FE. Furthermore, in comparison to commercial small-molecular UV absorbers (UV-329), the PE- g -AF absorber not only exhibits better UV absorption performance but also demonstrates almost zero migration behavior within the PE matrix.

A microencapsulated flame retardant PMDOPO was synthesized by solution blending method using EGDMA as initiator and AIBN as cross-linking agent. Rigid polyurethane foams were prepared in a one-step process. PMDOPO was incorporated into the foams by blending with polycarbonate diols (PCDL) and foaming additives. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that PMDOPO was well formed and uniformly dispersed in the foam. The pore size and density of the foams first increased and then decreased with the addition of PMDOPO. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), vertical combustion test, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the PMDOPO content was directly proportional to the flame retardancy and the thermal stability. The major weight loss shifted to higher temperature intervals. The amount of residual char of RPUF/PMDOPO-25 was enhanced 50 times to 10.63% compared to pure RPUF. In addition, SEM and Raman analyses of the combustion residual char revealed that a phosphorus-containing char layer was formed during thermal degradation. The dense charcoal layer helps to insulate heat and suppress combustion. The universal testing machine showed that RPUF with 15 wt% content had the best compression resistance, with an enhancement of 1.8 MPa over pure RPUF.

To enhance the flame retardancy and aging resistance of grouting fireproof glass, different molecular weights of polyethylene glycol (PEG) were mixed with acrylamide (AM) to construct interpenetrating network hydrogels, then the obtained hydrogels were mixed with flame retardants to prepare a series of transparent flame-retarded hydrogels applied in the fireproof glass. The effects of PAM/PEG hydrogel with varying PEG molecular weight on the optical transparency, heat insulation and aging resistance of fireproof glass were investigated. Optical transparency analysis shows that the light transmittance of grouting fireproof glass decreases with the increase of PEG molecular weight in the PAM/PEG interpenetrating network. Fire tests show that PAM/PEG hydrogel significantly enhances the heat insulation and aging resistance of the grouting fireproof glass compared to the single PAM network hydrogel. The flame-retarded and anti-aging effects of PAM/PEG hydrogel in the fireproof glass varies with the PEG molecular weight, and the order is PAM/PEG2000 > PAM/PEG1500 > PAM/PEG1000 > PAM/PEG800. Accelerated aging test shows that PAM/PEG interpenetrating network hydrogel is less affected by aging conditions and exerts durable heat insulation and transmittance. Especially, the backside temperature of 3600 s and transmittance of PAM/PEG2000 system after 264 h aging test only changed 38.3°C and 1.3%, respectively, compared to the unaged PAM/PEG2000 system.

Hydrogels have been widely used in wound dressings owing to their biocompatibility and bacteriostatic properties. In this study, a chitosan-citric acid gel film was prepared using chitosan as the raw material and citric acid as the acid solvent and cross-linking agent. In addition, to increase the antibacterial effect of the gel film, ketoconazole/β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex was prepared by inclusion technology and added to the gel film to prepare a chitosan-citric acid sustained-release gel film loaded with ketoconazole/β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex for treating cutaneous candidiasis. The physical and chemical properties of the chitosan-citric acid gel films were investigated using infrared spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, water vapor transmittance test, thermal analysis, and swelling tests. Drug release, antibacterial, and toxicity tests of the chitosan-citric acid gel film loading with ketoconazole/β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex were carried out in vitro. The composite film showed good sustained drug release behavior, antibacterial effects, and biocompatibility in vitro. These results support that the chitosan-citric acid hydrogel has great potential as a gel wound dressing for the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis.

In the face of changing outdoor environments, it is necessary for us to develop advanced textiles with thermal regulation and hydrophobic properties. In order to create a fabric with both temperature control and waterproof properties, the study adjusted the ratio of polystyrene (PS) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to produce nanofiber membranes with excellent morphology and dirt resistant properties. Furthermore, the hydrophobicity of the nanofibers was further improved by adding SiO 2 to the spinning solution. Based on this, a core solution of octadecane (Oct) was used to give it thermal regulation functionality through coaxial electrospinning technique. The resulting composite nanofiber membrane exhibited excellent hydrophobicity and thermal regulation performance. The measurement results obtained from Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) indicate that the maximum Oct encapsulation rate of the PS/PVDF/SiO 2 @Oct nanofiber membrane is 58.36%. The latent heat of the composite nanofiber membrane is 148.84 J/g, and the water contact angle (WCA) is 135°. The multifunctional composite nanofiber has great potential for applications in outdoor protective clothing and outdoor electronic device protection.

Poly (propylene carbonate) diol (PPCD) is one of the most attractive CO 2 copolymers. PPCD-based polyurethane has excellent mechanical properties and hydrophilicity, and is widely used in various fields. However, poor alkali resistance limits the application of PPCD-based polyurethane in wet-type artificial leather (WPL). In order to solve this problem, polyurethane solution (PUS) for wet-type artificial leather was prepared by using PPCD and polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG) as soft segments. The chemical structure, viscosity, molecular weight and distribution, physical and mechanical properties, thermal properties and dynamic mechanical thermal properties of PUS were characterized. The changes of the physical and mechanical properties of PUS films and surface morphology of WPLs after soaking in 10 wt% NaOH solution at room temperature for 24 h were studied, so as to evaluate the alkali resistance of polyurethane. The retention of tensile strength and tearing strength of PUS films modified by PTMG increased from 80% to 96% and from 89% to 100%, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy results showed that appropriate PTMG was beneficial to the formation of microporous structure for CO 2 -based polyurethane leather. The leather without PTMG showed agglomeration phenomenon, the micropores were not obvious, and the changes were obvious after soaking in alkali solution. After being modified by PTMG, the morphology of leather after soaking in alkali solution was basically unchanged. Polyurethane leather prepared with PTMG and PPCD as soft segments has excellent alkali resistance. These results suggest that PPCD could be a potential artificial leather material.

Developing economic controlled-release fertilizers (CRFs) with superior performance is an ongoing and important research area. This work investigated the co-modification of acid-activated attapulgite (ac-AT) to optimize its surface properties for polyurethane (PU) composite applications, specifically in the coatings of CRFs. The modified ac-AT (MAT) rods were obtained through treatment with 2.0 wt.% KH-560 coupling agent and in-situ grafting with stearic acid (SA). Varying the addition amount of SA resulted in the synthesis of different MAT fillers. Along with the adjustment of the filling amount, the properties of the MAT/PU composites were controlled. Notably, applying 1.5 wt.% SA onto the KH-560 treated ac-AT produced MAT with a contact angle of 100.8°, enhancing hydrophobicity and dispersion within the PU matrix. Furthermore, at a filling amount of 9.0 wt.%, the MAT/PU composite exhibited the most favorable properties with a tensile strength of 2.37 MPa, making it the optimal coating for CRFs with 75% nutrient release within 46 days while the coating efficiency was 3.0 wt.%. This co-modification approach shows great potential in enhancing filler properties and promoting their application in organic coatings.

In order to improve the problems of traditional self-healing polyurethane coating, such as harsh curing and repair conditions, poor hydrophobicity, thermal stability and human affinity, the prepolymer was synthesized by bio-based polyol castor oil (CO), self-made alkyl aryl modified silicone polyol (Si OH) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and dimethylglyoxime (DOU) was used as chain extender containing dynamic imine bond, methacrylic acid 2-(tert-butylamino)ethyl ester (MABE) was used as a capping agent containing acrylate and high steric hindrance amino structure, and a UV curable room temperature repair bio-based poly(siloxane-urethane) coating (PUESi) was prepared by stepwise polymerization. In this article, the effect of the amount of DOU on the properties of PUESi was studied. The results showed that PUESi with different dosages of DOU could achieve self-healing at room temperature. The maximum repair efficiency of full cut could reach 91.8%, and the scratch repair efficiency could reach 99.3%; The contact angle meter and synchronous thermal analyzer proved that the introduction of Si OH significantly improved the hydrophobicity, oil repellency and thermal stability of PUESi. The water contact angle increased from 78° to 104°, the oil contact angle increased from 63° to 91°, and the 5% thermal decomposition temperature increased from 179 to 196°C. The coating has broad application prospects in the fields such as antifouling and anticorrosion, building material protection, and automotive instruments.

The synergistic antibacterial effect of photothermal and drug treatments is a promising therapeutic method for treating the persistent bacterial infection of chronic wounds. In this study, we used electrospinning to fabricate functionalized poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofiber membranes as antibacterial wound dressings after incorporating tannic acid (TA) and ferric ion (Fe 3+ ). The abilities of pH-responsive controlled release TA and the photothermal effect of the membrane were obtained by introducing the TA/Fe 3+ complexes. Additionally, the membrane had a defined nanofibrous network structure, excellent mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, and water uptake ability. While the controlled release of TA endowed the membrane with high antibacterial properties at different pH values, the antibacterial ratio was further enhanced by approximately 10% under the photothermal synergistic effect. These results indicate that the PCL/TA/Fe 3+ nanofiber membranes could be regarded as an ideal candidate for treating bacterial infection of chronic wounds.
