One-pot synthesis of bismuth-containing multicomponent photocatalyst Ag-BWV-y towards efficient H2 generation

Zicheng He,Yunjie Lin,Mingfu Ye,Wenqing Zhu,Guochang Chen

The bismuth-containing semiconductors have emerged as promising materials for the degradation of organic pollutants and reduction of CO 2 . However, their potential applications in photocatalytic H 2 generation have not been explored clearly. Herein, bismuth-containing multicomponent photocatalyst Ag-BWV-y (where y represents the moles of Ag + in the initial reaction system) has been synthesized by a simple one-pot chemical method for photocatalytic H 2 generation. The element Ag is homogeneously distributed in as-prepared nanocomposite, and the band structure of Ag-BWV-y can be tuned by the dosage of Ag + ions. The optimized photocatalyst Ag-BWV-y (y = 0.15) shows a maximum H 2 evolution rate of 652 μmol h −1 g −1 , which is about 5.6-fold that of undoped sample. The narrow band gap of Ag-BVW-0.15 favors the photocatalytic activity in promoting H 2 production.

Metal Cluster Triggered-Assembling Heterogeneous Au-Ag Nanoclusters with Highly Loading Performance and Biocompatible Capability

Xiaoxiao He,Xiaohong Ma,Yujun Yang,Xi Hu,Teng Wang,Shiyue Chen,Xiang Mao

In this work, we firstly report the preparation of heterogeneously assembled structures Au-Ag nanoclusters (NCs) as good drug carriers with high loading performance and biocompatible capability. As glutathione-protected Au and Ag clusters self-assembled into porous Au-Ag NCs, the size value is about 1.358 (±0.05) nm. The morphology characterization revealed that the diameter of Au-Ag NCs is approximately 120 nm, as well as the corresponding potential ability in loading performance of the metal cluster triggered-assembling process. Compared with individual components, the stability and loading performance of heterogeneous Au-Ag NCs were improved and exhibit that the relative biocompatibility was enhanced. The exact information about this is that cell viability was approximately to 98% when cells were incubated with 100 µg mL−1particle solution for 3 days. The drug release of Adriamycin from Au-Ag NCs was carried out in PBS at pH = 7.4 and 5.8, respectively. By simulating in vivo and tumor microenvironment, the release efficiency could reach over 65% at pH = 5.8 but less than 30% at pH = 7.2. Using an ultrasound field as external environment can accelerate the assembling process while metal clusters triggered assembling Au-Ag NCs. The size and morphology of the assembled Au-Ag NCs can be controlled by using different power parameters (8 W, 13 W, 18 W) under ambient atmosphere. Overall, a novel approach is exhibited, which conveys assembling work for metal clusters triggers into heterogeneous structures with porous characteristic. Its existing properties such as water-solubility, stability, low toxicity and capsulation can be considered as dependable agents in various biomedical applications and drug carriers in immunotherapies.Keywords:Au-Ag NCs;heterogeneous structures;assembling;drug carriers;biocompatibility

A flexible Ni–Ag-coated nylon yarn as an electrode for non-enzymatic glucose sensing

Xiaozhi Li,Jutao Qiao,Dan Luo,Siyi Xu,Yuefeng Liu,Hao Liu

In this study, Ni nanoparticles were grown on a silver-coated nylon yarn (SCNY) surface by electrochemical deposition to prepare SCNY@Ni. The hierarchical Ni–Ag nanostructure promoted their synergistic effect, which enhanced the electrocatalytic behavior of glucose oxidation. The test result of SCNY@Ni showed its high sensitivity (115.26 μA mM−1 cm−2 and 67.37 μA mM−1 cm−2) with a wide linear response (from 2 μM to 1 mM and from 1 mM to 22 mM) of glucose con-centration range, a low detection limit (LOD) of 2 μM, fast response time (3 s), and good selectivity for glucose determination in the presence of sucrose (SU), aceta-mino phenol (AP), D-fructose (D-Fru), ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), hydro-quinone (HQ) and uric acid (UA) as potential interference species. Also, SCNY@Ni exhibited excellent stability, repeatability, reproducibility and flexibility. It has good prospects for large-scale production.

Ag Nanoparticles@Agar Gel as a 3D Flexible and Stable SERS Substrate with Ultrahigh Sensitivity

Rong Chang,Tao Wang,Qian Liu,Jun Tang,Dongling Wu

Flexible surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates have become one of the research hot spots due to the facile sampling by swabbing or wrapping on rough surfaces and the sensitive and nondestructive detection of contaminants. In this work, we proposed a simple and fast in situ reduction method to prepare Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) composited agar hydrogel (Ag NPs@Agar) flexible SERS substrate. Owing to the three-dimensional (3D) structure, good hydrophilicity and adsorption of the agar hydrogel, Ag NPs were grown uniformly in the 3D cross-linked structure. The distribution density of Ag NPs was further increased by the volume shrinkage when the hydrogel was dried in air. This high density and uniformly distribution of Ag NPs produced a large number of highly active SERS regions. In addition, the sensitivity of Ag NPs@Agar was further improved with the assistance of hydrophilic agar gel, which can trap the probe molecules into highly active SERS areas. The SERS results showed that the substrate can be used to detect dye molecules (rhodamine 6G), the minimum detectable concentration was 10–15 M, the relative standard deviation tested at 18 different positions was only 7.58%, and the intensity of the characteristic peak at 611 cm–1 decreased only about 10% after 49 days of storage, demonstrating the superior stability. Moreover, the Ag NPs@Agar substrate also could successfully achieve the micro-trace detection of melamine and sodium penicillin G in Xinjiang specialty camel milk powder. The above available results show that the prepared flexible Ag NPs@Agar SERS substrates possess potentials for the illegal additives and antibiotics in food safety analysis.

Dual-emissive ratiometric fluorescent nanosensor based on multi-nanomaterials for Ag+ determination in lake water

Ling Zhu,Lujia Shi,Yiping Tan,Huaiyin Zhang,Jiacheng Yin,Chang Xu,Danlian Wu,Yunsu Ma

In this study, a sensitive ratiometric fluorescent nanosensor was constructed using a facile one-pot method by encapsulating carbon dots (CDs) and cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) into the pore cavities of a metal–organic framework (ZIF-8). In this nanosensor (CD/CdTe QD@ZIF-8), the fluorescence attributed to CdTe QDs was quenched by silver ions (Ag+), and the fluorescence intensity of CDs did not change. The introduction of ZIF-8 into the system can not only adsorb Ag+ but also easily separate CDs and CdTe QDs from the matrix. The developed CD/CdTe QD@ZIF-8 composite used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity towards Ag+. The working linear range was 0.1–20 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.49 nM. Finally, the proposed nanosensor was applied to determine Ag+ in lake water with satisfactory results.

Facile Synthesis of Ag/Carbon Quantum Dots/Graphene Composites for Highly Conductive Water-Based Inks

Chaochao Gao,Wen Yu,Minghao Du,Bingxuan Zhu,Wanbao Wu,Yihong Liang,Dong Wu,Baoyu Wang,Mi Wang,Jiaheng Zhang

The development of graphene conductive inks with a high conductivity and dispersion stability in water poses considerable challenges. Herein, a highly conductive Ag/carbon quantum dots (CQDs)/graphene (G) composite with good dispersity and stability in water was prepared for the first time through the in situ photoreduction of AgNO3 and deposition of Ag onto graphene nanosheets obtained via CQD-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation. Ag nanoparticles with an average size of ∼1.88 nm were uniformly dispersed on graphene nanosheets. The Ag/CQDs/G composite exhibited good dispersity and stability in water for 30 days. The formation mechanism of the Ag/CQDs/G composites was also discussed. CQDs played a vital role in coordinating with Ag+ and reducing it under visible light conditions. The addition of only 1.58 wt % of Ag NPs to the CQDs/G film resulted in a significant decrease in the electrical resistivity by approximately 89.5%, reaching a value of 0.054 Ω cm for a 40 μm thick Ag/CQDs/G film. A low resistivity of 2.15 × 10–3 Ω cm for the Ag/CQDs/G film was achieved after rolling compression with a compression ratio of 78%. The Ag/CQDs/G film exhibited good conductivity and durability when bent, rolled, or twisted. Moreover, the resistivity of the film displayed a slight deviation after 5000 bending cycles, indicating its outstanding stability. This study provides an efficient strategy for preparing graphene-based conductive composites with good dispersibility and stability in water as well as novel high-performance conductive inks for application in flexible printed electronics.

Facile Synthesis of Porous Ag Crystals as SERS Sensor for Detection of Five Methamphetamine Analogs

Yazhou Qin,Fan Mo,Sen Yao,Yuanzhao Wu,Yingsheng He,Weixuan Yao

Porous noble metal nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention due to their high specific surface area and surface plasmon resonance effect. However, it is difficult to form porous structures due to the high mobility and low reduction potential of noble metal precursors. In this article, we developed a facile method for preparing porous Ag with a controllable structure at room temperature. Two kinds of Ag crystals with different porous structures were successfully prepared by using AgCl cubes as sacrificial templates. Through the galvanic replacement reaction of Zn and AgCl, Ag crystals with a sponge-like porous structure were successfully prepared. Additionally, using NaBH4as the reducing agent, we prepared granular porous Ag cubes by optimizing the amount of reducing agent. Both the sponge-like and granular porous Ag cubes have clean and accessible surfaces. In addition, we used the prepared two porous Ag cubes as substrate materials for SERS detection of five kinds of methamphetamine analogs. The experimental results show that the enhancement effect of granular porous Ag is better than that of sponge-like porous Ag. Furthermore, we probed the hot spot distribution of granular porous Ag by Raman mapping. By using granular porous Ag as the substrate material, we have achieved trace detection of 5 kinds of methamphetamine analogs including Ephedrine, Amphetamine, N-Methyl-1-(benzofuran-5-yl)propan-2-amine (5-MAPB), N-Methyl-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)propan-2-amine (PMMA) and N-Methyl-1-(4-fluorophenyl)propan-2-amine (4-FMA). Furthermore, to achieve qualitative differentiation of analogs with similar structures we performed density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations on the Raman spectra of the above analogs. The DFT calculations provided the vibrational frequencies, Raman activities, and normal mode assignment for each analog, enabling the qualitative differentiation of the above analogs. Keywords:Ag crystal;methamphetamine;SERS;porous structure

A high-performance SERS imprinted membrane based on Ag/CNTs for selective detection of spiramycin

Hongji Li,Junfu Wang,Xiyue Wang,Haochen Yu,Linjing Ji,Tianyu Zhou,Chunbo Liu,Guangbo Che,Dandan Wang

In this test, the eggshell membrane (ESM) is selected as the support membrane for the biocompatibility and anchors CNTs on the surface to increase the mechanical properties. Then Ag NPs are decorated on CNTs-ESM substrate as SERS substrate by twice in-situ reduction. Finally, a layer of imprinted polymers is coated on the surface of the substrate to synthesize the imprinted membrane for selective detection of spiramycin. It is exhibited from the characteristic results that the CNTs significantly increase the mechanical properties and the detection sensitivity, simultaneously. When the concentration of SP changes between 10 -6  ∼ 10 -11 M, there is a linear relationship between SERS intensity and SP concentration. The detection limit is 10 -11 M, and the correlation coefficient R 2 is 0.9864. The SERS imprinted membrane can be applied into the detection of antibiotics in practical sample, which broadens the research field of antibiotics detection.

High-efficiency antibacterial and barrier properties of natural rubber/graphene oxide@Ag/carboxymethyl chitosan composites

Yuxian Su,Teng Li,Yingyan Mao,Li Liu,Shipeng Wen

Natural rubber (NR) latex gloves serve as a very important barrier protection for health care workers. It is of great significance to study the barrier and antibacterial properties of NR latex products. Herein, a small amount of graphene oxide (GO) with in situ grown silver (Ag) nanoparticles was self-assembled in the NR latex by carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) as a cross-linking agent to form a novel NR/GO-Ag-CMCS composite with three-dimensional filler networks. The filler networks in the NR/GO-Ag-CMCS composite were formed by a strong interfacial interaction between NR macromolecules and GO-Ag-CMCS hybrids. The tensile strength and tear strength of NR/GO-Ag-CMCS composite were higher than those of pure NR film. With the increase of GO content, the filler network of NR/GO-Ag-CMCS film tended to be more complete and its barrier was stronger. Moreover, the NR/GO-Ag-CMCS composite showed excellent antibacterial performance against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). The minimal inhibitory concentration values of GO-Ag-CMCS hybrid to E. coli and S. aureus were 8 and 16 μg/mL, respectively. For the NR/GO-Ag-CMCS composite with 0.1 phr GO, the diameters of its inhibition zone were 15.6 mm for E. coli and 13.6 mm for S. aureus.

The Aggregation of Destabilized Ag Triangular Nanoplates and Its Application in Detection of Thiram Residues

Chunhong Zhang,Hao Ren,Xiangkui Jiang,Guangfeng Jia,Zhigang Pan,Yongchun Liu

An aggregation or assembly of Ag triangular nanoplates (Ag TNPs) can cause dramatic changes in their optical properties, which is widely used in applications in the field of sensing. The assembly forms of nanoparticles are crucial for obtaining sensitive sensing signals, but it is unknown what kind of assembly dominates the aggregated Ag TNPs in aqueous solutions. Herein, using thiram-induced Ag TNP aggregation as a model, six different assembly models were established, including three planar (side-by-side, side-to-tip, and tip-to-tip) assemblies and three tridimensional (plane-to-plane, plane-to-tip, and plane-to-side) assemblies. The corresponding optical properties were then investigated. Both theoretical and experimental findings indicate that three-dimensional assemblies, especially plane-to-plane assembly, dominate the Ag TNPs aggregation solution, causing a blue shift of the absorption spectrum. Analysis of charge distribution patterns in Ag TNPs indicates that such a blue shift is caused by the electrostatic repulsive force in plane-to-plane assembly. Thus, we propose a simple colorimetric method for thiram detection using Ag TNPs as an indicator. The method exhibits a selective and sensitive response to thiram with a limit of detection of 0.13 μM in the range of 0.2–0.5 μM, as well as excellent performance in real samples like wheat. Keywords:aggregation;Ag triangular nanoplates;LSPR;colorimetric detection;thiram

Vapor phase polymerization of Ag QD-embedded PEDOT film with enhanced thermoelectric and antibacterial properties

Shi Wei,Yao Qin,Donghui Wang,Qu Sanyin,Chen Yanling,Lee Kyu Hyoung,Chen Lidong

Nonferric oxidant precursors have the unique advantage of directly polymerizing poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)-inorganic composites. However, due to limited solubility and unmatched oxidation potentials, most oxidants only produce powders or porous materials. To obtain high-quality films with improved homogeneity and controllable particle sizes, the oxidants should be adaptable to high-standard PEDOT film fabrication techniques such as vapor phase polymerization (VPP). In this work, we discovered for the first time a nonferric metal salt suitable for the VPP process. With the addition of an Fe(III) salt to stabilize the reaction and adjust the oxidant ratio, micron-thick antibacterial S-PEDOT-Ag quantum dot (QD) composite films with tunable Ag wt% can be synthesized in one facile step. With a low Ag loading of ~0.2 wt%, the film exhibited an optimized power factor of 63.1 μW/mK 2 , which is among the highest values thus far reported for PEDOT-metal composites. Increase of the Ag(I) concentration in the precursor to a certain level may lead to minor decomposition of the polymer followed by the formation of Ag 2 S particles.

Effects of rice root exudates on aggregation, dissolution and bioaccumulation of differently-charged Ag nanoparticles

Jiajia Yang,Hongyu Duan,Xiya Wang,Huan Zhang,Zhifeng Zhang

The biological toxicity and eco-environmental risk of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) is closely related to their stability. The stability of MNPs not only depends on their own properties but also on the effects of biological and environmental factors. To better understand the interaction between biological factors and MNPs in aquatic environments, the effects of total rice root exudates (T-RRE) on the aggregation, dissolution and bioaccumulation of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) with different surface charges were investigated in detail. Results indicated that T-RRE can induce the aggregation and sedimentation, and hinder the dissolution of polyethyleneimine-coated AgNPs (AgNPs@PEI) with positive surface charges as well as reducing the bioaccumulation of Ag in rice roots. T-RRE had no obvious effect on the dispersion stability of AgNPs@Cit (negatively charged citrate-coated AgNPs) and AgNPs@PVP (near electrically neutral polyvinylpyrrolidone-coated AgNPs), although T-RRE could induce the dissolution of AgNPs@Cit and AgNPs@PVP. In the molecular fractions of T-RRE, high-molecular-weight root exudates (H-RRE) play a key role in inducing the aggregation of AgNPs@PEI and hindering the bioaccumulation of Ag in rice roots. Compared with H-RRE, low-molecular-weight root exudates (L-RRE) can promote the dissolution of AgNPs@Cit and AgNPs@PVP, but it can obviously promote silver accumulation in rice roots. The difference in charge intensity between L-RRE and T-RRE plays a key role in inducing the aggregation and dissolution of AgNPs with different charges. These findings provide a foundation for investigation of the interactions between rice root exudates and nanoparticles with different surface charges in complex environmental systems.
