Lead-free perovskites are considered to be candidates for next-generation photodetectors, because of their excellent charge carrier transport properties and low toxicity. However, their application in integrated circuits is hindered by their inadequate performance and size restrictions. To aim at the development of lead-free perovskite-integrated optoelectronic devices, a CsAg2I3/silicon (CAI/Si) heterojunction is presented in this work by using a spatial confinement growth method, where the in-plane growth of CAI microbelts with high-quality single-crystal characteristics is primarily dependent on the concentration of surrounding precursor solution. The fabricated photodetectors based on the CAI/Si heterojunctions exhibit a broad-spectrum detection capability in the ultraviolet–visible–near-infrared (UV-vis-NIR) range. In addition, the photodetectors show good photoelectric detection performance, including a maximum responsivity of 48.5 mA/W and detectivity of 1.13 × 1011 Jones, respectively. Besides, the photodetectors have a rapid response of 6.5/224 μs and good air stability for over 2 months. This work contributes a new idea to design next-generation optoelectronic devices with high integration density.

The clinical management of osteosarcoma faces critical challenges, including postoperative recurrence and metastasis of residual tumor cells, chemotherapy resistance, and impaired self-repair capacity due to extensive bone defects following tumor resection. Herein, we develop a novel functionalized 3D-printed scaffold with NIR-II responsiveness (BGS/I-LDH@MgO 2 ), designed to simultaneously address the dual needs of inhibiting osteosarcoma recurrence and promoting bone regeneration. This scaffold consists of 3D-printed bioactive glass scaffold (BGS) and MgO 2 -modified ZnAl-layered double hydroxides (ZnAl-LDHs) intercalated with 5-iodo-isophthalic acid (I-IPA). Under NIR-II irradiation, the scaffold effectively triggers a photodynamic therapy (PDT) effect to eliminate osteosarcoma cells. Notably, the incorporation of MgO 2 enables oxygen release within the tumor microenvironment, alleviating hypoxia and enhancing PDT efficacy for superior antitumor performance. Furthermore, the degradation of ZnAl-LDHs and MgO 2 releases Mg 2+ and Zn 2+ ions and generates a mildly alkaline microenvironment, which collectively facilitate the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and accelerate the process of bone healing. This functionalized 3D-printed scaffold demonstrates excellent anti-tumor and osteogenic properties, showing great promise for the treatment of osteosarcoma-associated bone defects.

Glyphosate, a widely used organophosphorus herbicide, poses significant threats to ecological security and food safety due to its residue accumulation. A near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, HDI, was designed and synthesized for the detection of glyphosate (Glyp) based on a Zn 2 + -mediated competitive coordination mechanism. HDI formed a non-fluorescent complex with Zn 2+ , which was selectively disassembled by Glyp through phosphonate-carboxylate chelation, resulting in a restored "off–on" NIR emission at 620 nm. The coordination mode and displacement mechanism were corroborated by Job's plot, HRMS, 1 H NMR, FT-IR, and DFT calculations. The HDI-Zn 2+ system exhibited a low limit of detection (10.1 nM), a broad tolerant pH range (5−8), and high selectivity against 29 common ions and biomolecules. Satisfactory spike-recovery rates (95.3%-107%, RSD < 4.90%) were obtained in environmental water, soil, and food extracts. Furthermore, Glyp was visualized in living HeLa cells, zebrafish embryos, and mice with low cytotoxicity, and fluorescence signals were predominantly localized in the liver. This work establishes a reliable chemosensing platform for trace glyphosate surveillance in food safety and environmental monitoring.

Luminescent materials used in conventional luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) generally suffer from issues such as heavy metal toxicity, narrow spectral response ranges, significant reabsorption losses, and low near-infrared light utilization efficiency. To address these issues, this study employed a one-step hydrothermal method to synthesize nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) with dual-band excitation capabilities in the ultraviolet and near-infrared regions. They exhibit both large Stokes shift (626 meV), anti-Stokes shift (1143 meV) and high total photoluminescent quantum yield (82.16%). Their luminescent emission peak is located at 440 nm, allowing for stable blue light emission and demonstrating significant upconversion luminescence properties. N-GQDs were encapsulated in polyvinylpyrrolidone to prepare LSCs, which were then coupled with monocrystalline silicon solar cells to construct an LSC−PV system. Under optimal conditions with a quantum dot concentration of 15 mg/mL, the LSC−PV system with dimension of 10 × 10 × 0.3 cm 3 achieved a power conversion efficiency of 0.74%, with an efficiency gain of 0.14% attributable to upconversion luminescence. This work demonstrates that N-GQDs with upconversion luminescence properties offer an approach for enhancing the performance of green, high-efficiency building-integrated photovoltaics devices.

Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in the onset and progression of arthritis, in which the abnormal elevation of hydroxyl radical (•OH) has been recognized as a key molecular hallmark of early inflammation. However, effective tools capable of simultaneously visualizing •OH dynamics and tracking therapeutic efficacy remain elusive. Herein, we developed a self-calibrated near-infrared II (NIR-II) ratiometric imaging probe responsive to •OH. The probe integrates downconversion nanoparticles (DCNP) as a stable internal reference (F1550nm,980Ex) and a •OH-triggered red-shiftable dye Hydro-830 (F930nm,808Ex), enabling ratiometric imaging through the signal ratio “F930nm,808Ex/F1550nm,980Ex.” The probe exhibits high sensitivity and specificity toward •OH in vitro and effectively captures the upregulation of oxidative stress at early inflammatory stages in vivo. In a longitudinal “treatment–imaging” study, the ratiometric signal gradually decreased following methotrexate (MTX) therapy, consistent with reductions in joint swelling, inflammatory cytokines, and histopathological lesions. This study establishes a self-calibrated NIR-II ratiometric imaging strategy for precise monitoring of oxidative stress, enabling early molecular diagnosis and dynamic therapeutic evaluation of arthritis, and offering a promising paradigm for imaging other ROS-related inflammatory disorders.

Bacterial infection is a major threat to joint surgery and can lead to amputation or death. However, advanced tools for early, rapid, and accurate identification of joint-infecting bacterial species remain limited. Here, we report a universal strategy for fabricating ultrabright near-infrared (NIR) AIEgen fluorescent probes (PPANPs) that enable lateral flow assay (LFA)-based rapid bacterial identification in joint fluid before surgery, as well as in situ imaging diagnosis and photothermal antibacterial intervention in the joint cavity. Structurally, PPANPs display a core–shell–shell architecture, in which aggregated NIR AIEgens form the fluorescent core, NIR lead sulfide (OA-PbS) forms the inner shell, and poly(maleic anhydride-alt-1-octadecene) (PMAO) forms the outer shell. This spatially confined design combines physical confinement, ligand-mediated molecular organization, and cooperative luminescence within the PbS–AIE hybrid nanoassembly, promoting compact and ordered AIE packing and thereby enhancing NIR fluorescence intensity, quantum yield, and photothermal performance compared with conventional embedding methods. s a diagnostic platform, PPANP-labeled LFA achieves 100% sensitivity for Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) identification within 10 min, outperforming standard plate culture (>96 h). Moreover, PPANPs enable rapid in situ imaging of S. aureus infection in mouse joints within 30 min and exhibit potent photothermal antibacterial activity in vitro under low-power-density laser irradiation.

Hollow mesoporous manganese (HMM)-based nanocarriers, incorporating nanoparticle cavities and mesoporous channels, enhance the photostability and photobleaching resistance of indocyanine green (ICG). The addition of H2N-c(RGDfK)-OH (RGD) ensures precise targeting, making the cRGD&PEG2000-HMM@ICG (R&P-M@ICG) nanoprobe ideal for NIR-II fluorescence image-guided surgery and photothermal therapy (PTT). This approach offers accurate targeting, high therapeutic efficacy, and reduced side effects. The inclusion of manganese (Mn) in the nanocarriers further boosts the therapeutic effects by enabling chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Mn ions catalyze the conversion of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) into highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (•OH) within the tumor microenvironment. The synergy between Mn-driven CDT and PTT enhances tumor ablation, as the heat from PTT accelerates ROS production from CDT, leading to more effective tumor cell damage and apoptosis. The dual action of PTT and CDT overcomes the limitations of single-modal therapies. While PTT induces hyperthermia to kill tumor cells, Mn-assisted CDT amplifies the ROS generation, further enhancing treatment efficacy. This combined effect makes the R&P-M@ICG nanoprobe a powerful tool for cancer treatment, demonstrating superior anti-tumor efficacy compared to conventional therapies. In this study, we synthesized the R&P-M@ICG nanoprobe, highlighting its potential for precise surgical navigation, and for synergistic photothermal and chemodynamic therapy in cancer treatment.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a form of breast cancer that is more aggressive and harder to treat than others, with a higher probability of relapse. Its nefarious capabilities for migrating and invading other parts of the body together with the current lack of clinically established effective therapies account for a low survival rate. In this work, we demonstrate the in-tandem use of two complementary therapeutic routes to effectively combat TNBC. A versatile magnetic-photothermal converter (MPC) consisting of zinc-doped ferrite nanoparticles and polyethene glycol, is shown to display excellent therapeutic efficiency, being capable to fight TNBC via two distinct routes: magneto-mechanical force (MMF) and near-infrared-II (NIR-II) hypothermal ablation. The combined use of these two complementary and synergistic therapies, which are less aggressive to the human body compared to conventional chemotherapeutic approaches, results in the splendid suppression of TNBC migration and invasion. Remotely controlling the MPCs by an external magnetic field , results in cellular MMF effects that cause direct mechanical destruction to the cancer cell membrane , leading to its necrosis. Furthermore, the MMF disrupts intracellular lysosomes , thereby triggering the release of large amounts of protein hydrolases , which induce intracellular oxidative stress , and accelerate the induction of apoptosis. Complementing the therapeutic approach based on MMF, the excellent photothermal performance of the MPC in the NIR-II region (1064 nm) is exploited to enable effective hypothermal ablation of the tumours, which can be achieved in deep tissue layers. The proposed multifunctional nanocomposites , together with the demonstrated “double-punch” therapeutic approach, hold significant potential to pave the way for future cutting-edge weapons against the dreadful TNBC.

The evaluation of therapeutic response to cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors in hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer currently relies on anatomical imaging, which suffers from significant delays. To enable early and direct visualization of drug activity, we developed a near-infrared-II (NIR-II) fluorescent molecular probe, HSA-ICi, by conjugating a CDK4/6 inhibitor (Palbociclib or Ribociclib) with ICG and facilitating its self-assembly with human serum albumin. This probe demonstrated specific targeting to the CDK4/6-cyclin D complex, excellent biocompatibility, and high tumor accumulation in preclinical models. Crucially, HSA-ICi allowed non-invasive monitoring of pharmacodynamic response: a significant decrease in tumor fluorescence signal was detected via NIR-II imaging as early as one week after treatment initiation, preceding any measurable change in tumor volume by caliper or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This early signal reduction correlated with decreased pRB and Ki-67 expression in tumor tissues. Furthermore, the probe could distinguish between CDK4/6 inhibitor-sensitive and -resistant tumors, with resistant models showing a consistently low baseline signal. Our findings establish HSA-ICi as a promising tool for the early assessment of therapeutic efficacy and the identification of resistance, potentially facilitating timely treatment adaptation for patients with HR+/HER2- breast cancer.

The rising incidence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections in deep tissues, such as subcutaneous abscesses and bacterial pneumonia, has become an urgent public health concern. Both conventional antibiotic treatments and nanomaterial-based therapies are inadequate due to their limited catalytic efficiency, poor tissue penetration, and the enhanced resistance they provoke. We report the rational design and synthesis of nitrogen-doped rhodium single-atom catalysts (Rh SACs) that integrate second near-infrared (NIR-II) photothermal conversion with multienzyme mimetic activities. This nanozyme platform employs a synergistic ‘photothermal-catalytic’ therapy to effectively eliminate MDR pathogens and disrupt biofilms. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that atomically dispersed Rh sites lower the reaction barrier and optimize the adsorption of intermediates. The presence of rhodium enhances peroxidase and oxidase-mimetic activities under NIR-II irradiation. Transcriptional analysis reveals that Rh SACs modulate inflammation signaling and the immune microenvironment at the molecular level. In mice with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -infected abscesses and lung infections, treatment with Rh SACs resulted in nearly complete bacterial clearance, biofilm disruption, and accelerated tissue repair. Additionally, macrophage polarization shifted significantly from M1 to M2. A systematic biosafety assessment demonstrated excellent hemocompatibility and minimal systemic toxicity. This work not only presents an efficient and resistance-free strategy for treating deep tissue infections but also provides crucial structural insights for structure-activity relationship studies in single-atom nanozymes. We strongly believe that nanosystems hold substantial potential for clinical translation in catalytic nanomedicine.

Nitric oxide (NO) plays key roles as a signaling molecule and an inflammatory mediator in the pathophysiology of diseases. Real-time, precise visualization of NO dynamics in deep tissues is essential for understanding disease mechanisms and evaluating therapeutic efficacy of drugs. However, existing NO probes, particularly those operating in the first near-infrared (NIR-I) window or single-wavelength “turn-on”, have limitations such as shallow penetration depth, tissue scattering, slow response and low sensitivity. To address these limitations, we used an electron cloud density enhancement strategy to develop NO-activated second near-infrared (NIR-II) window ratiometric photoacoustic (PA) probe (TCF-BA) by replacing the cationic heptamethine cyanine scaffold with an anionic counterpart. This anion-modulated strategy significantly increases electron cloud density, thereby improving the reactivity and sensitivity toward NO. The TCF-BA probe exhibits a significant ratiometric PA response upon NO activation, enabling high-contrast, deep-tissue imaging. Leveraging the high spatiotemporal resolution of PA imaging, the TCF-BA probe was used to quantitatively monitor NO fluctuations in a mouse model of liver injury. Overall, this study provides a reliable molecular imaging tool to investigate NO-related pathological processes and offers a promising strategy for the design of activatable NIR-II ratiometric probes.

Cr4+-activated phosphors are important candidate materials for NIR-II light sources, but providing a suitable lattice coordination environment for Cr4+ and achieving long wavelength broadband emission remains a challenge. In this work, a series of Cr4+-activated ABO2 (A = Li, Na; B = Al, Ga) phosphors were successfully prepared. Due to the presence of only tetrahedral coordination structures available for Cr4+ to occupy in the matrix crystal ABO2, the valence state and luminescence stability of Cr4+ are effectively guaranteed. Through the cation substitution design of A-site (Na → Li) and B-site (Ga → Al), the [BO4] tetrahedron is distorted and expanded, which degrades the symmetry of the Cr4+ coordination crystal field. Consequently, the central wavelength of the Cr4+ emission peak is tuned from 1280 to 1430 nm, and the fwhm is significantly extended from 257 to 355 nm. Thebroadband NIR-II light sources constructed with LiAlO2: 0.03Cr4+ and NaGaO2: 0.03Cr4+ phosphors verify their important potential applications in nondestructive testing and biological imaging.
