Toluene is one of the most toxic contaminants in industrial waste gases, it can enter the body through the respiratory system and skin. Long-term exposure to it can lead to skin inflammation and neurasthenia, and even cause lesions in organs. Over the years, catalytic oxidation technology has been extensively employed to the remove of toluene, and oxides, especially copper oxide, is considered to be an effective catalyst technology and has been extensively studied. In this work, we introduced CuO as an active species to investigate the impact of Cu content in TiO 2 @CuO (TC-x, x=1, 2, 3, and 5) catalyst on the activity, reusability, and stability of toluene oxidation. The result demonstrated that the addition of Cu species, facilitating the generation of active oxygen obviously reduced the complete oxidation temperature of toluene. Among them, TC-3 catalyst exhibited the highest activity (T 50 = 234 ℃, T 90 = 289 ℃, and T 100 = 310 ℃, with C toluene =1000 ppm, WHSV=20,000 mL/ (g h)), great reusability, and stability for toluene degradation. According to the in-situ DRIFTS, the ultimate degradation products of toluene were CO 2 and H 2 O, which were clean and free of secondary pollution.

Catalytic reduction of nitrate over bimetallic catalysts has emerged as a technology for sustainable treatment of nitrate-containing groundwater. However, the structure of bimetallic has been much less investigated for catalyst optimization. Herein, two main types of Pd-Cu bimetallic nanocrystal structures, heterostructure and intermetallic, were prepared and characterized using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that two individual Pd and Cu nanocrystals with a mixed interface exist in the heterostructure nanocrystals, while Pd and Cu atoms are uniformly distributed across the intermetallic Pd-Cu nanocrystals. The catalytic nitrate reduction experiments were carried out in a semibatch reactor under constant hydrogen flow. The nitrate conversion rate of the heterostructure Pd-Cu nanocrystals supported on α-Al 2 O 3 , γ-Al 2 O 3 , SBA-15, and XC-72R exhibited 3.82-, 6.76-, 4.28-, 2.44-fold enhancements relative to the intermetallic nanocrystals, and the nitrogen and nitrite were the main products for the heterostructure and intermetallic Pd-Cu nanocrystals, respectively. This indicates that the catalytic nitrate reduction over Pd-Cu catalyst is sensitive to the bimetallic structures of the catalysts, and heterostructure bimetallic nanocrystals exhibit better catalytic performances on both the activity and selectivity, which may provide new insights into the design and optimization of catalysts to improve catalytic activity and selectivity for nitrate reduction in water.

In order to enhance CH 4 adsorption and absorption performance, ZIF-8@Cu was prepared by precipitation method at room temperature, while a hydrate accelerator of SO 3 − @PSNS was synthesized by the polymerization method, and CH 4 adsorption-absorption synergistic storage in ZIF-8@Cu that pre-adsorbed SO 3 − @PSNS solution was evaluated for the first time. It was found that Cu 2+ can effectively improve the adsorption kinetics of CH 4 , causing ZIF-8@Cu to reach a higher adsorption capacity, and CH 4 adsorption capacity of ZIF-8@Cu /0.14% is 12.45 % higher than that in ZIF-8. Furthermore, Cu 2+ provides additional nucleation sites for CH 4 hydrate, thereby enhancing the overall CH 4 storage density. For the water content of R w = 0.5, the doping of 0.14 % Cu 2+ causes CH 4 storage capacity via adsorption-absorption synergy increases by 33.93 %. It is worth to note that SO 3 − @PSNS significantly reduces hydration pressure while retains CH 4 adsorption ability in ZIF-8@Cu. For R w = 0.5, hydration pressure in SO 3 − @PSNS system reduces by up to 45 % compared with that in water system, while CH 4 storage capacity increases by up to 94 %. This finding makes it possible for CH 4 dense storage under low pressure via adsorption-hydration hybrid approach.

A simple and efficient dual-signal electrochemical sensor was designed for glyphosate (GLYP) determination based on the one-step electro-synthesized Cu-Hemin MOFs/CNTs nanocrystals. Cu-Hemin MOFs/CNTs were directly modified on the electrode through electrodeposition, avoiding complicated synthesis and modification processes. The incorporation of CNTs greatly boosted the conductivity of Cu-Hemin MOFs and the sensitivity of the electrochemical sensor. Cu active sites in Cu-Hemin MOFs were converted to CuCl, allowing the specific detection of GLYP with the turn of CuCl into non-electroactive Cu-GLYP. Meanwhile, GLYP showed highly effective inhibition effect on the inherent peroxidase-like activity of Cu-Hemin MOFs, therefore generating the second electrochemical signal with Cu-Hemin MOFs-catalyzed o -phenylenediamine ( o -PD) + H 2 O 2 system. The Cu-Hemin MOFs/CNTs based sensor with two electrochemical signals showed good linearities of 1.0 × 10 −10 M − 3.0 × 10 −6 M and 1.0 × 10 −10 M − 5.0 × 10 −5 M, with detection limits of 5.17 × 10 −12 M and 6.81 × 10 −12 M for the CuCl signal based assay and nanozyme catalyzed o -PD + H 2 O 2 procedure, respectively. This simple and robust dual-signal sensor with excellent selectivity, accuracy, and stability allowed GLYP quantification in real samples, highlighting the potential application of this approach for food and environmental monitoring. The detection of glucose in beverages is crucial for dietary management and healthcare. Excessive sugar consumption can lead to severe conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. In this study, Cu-embedded laser-induced graphene (Cu/LIG) materials were fabricated for non-enzymatic glucose detection using a simple, direct, and cost-effective laser-patterning method on a Cu 2+ /ethyl-cellulose/polyimide membrane. The experimental results showed that the Cu/LIG electrode exhibited lower charge transfer resistance and a distinct diffusion process compared to the LIG electrode. This improvement can be attributed to the optimized graphene formation achieved by employing ethyl-cellulose (EC) and CuCl 2 as combustion promoters. Under optimal conditions, Cu/LIG-600 demonstrated excellent electrocatalytic activity for glucose oxidation, with a low response concentration (5 μM), fast response time (2.0 s), and detection ranges of 0.005–0.525 mM (I-t) and 0.5–4.0 mM (CV). Moreover, the sensor exhibited high selectivity, stability (retaining over 90 % activity after 28 days), and satisfactory recovery rates for spiked glucose in Cola, Sprite, Black Tea, and sugarless Soda Water, indicating its potential for non-enzymatic glucose detection in beverages.

Metal element doping often can improve the photoluminescence (PL) of carbon dots (CDs). In this paper, blue and green emitting CDs (BCDs and GCDs) were synthesized by using phenylenediamine as the carbon and nitrogen sources. Cu-doped CDs (Cu-CDs) were fabricated by using copper acetylacetone as a precursor. The PL peak wavelengths of sample Cu-doped blue CDs (Cu-BCDs) and green CDs (Cu-GCDs) were 450 and 543 nm, respectively. The full width at half maximum of PL spectra were 67.31 and 93.13 nm, the PL quantum yields (PLQYs) were 13.6 and 38.7 %, and the average fluorescence lifetimes were 4.34 and 20.97 ns, respectively. The PL intensity of the Cu-CDs samples was enhanced with the photostability, and thermal stability test results showed that the Cu-CDs samples also had excellent stability. The Cu-BCDs and Cu-GCDs were employed in the field of sensing applications due to their excellent selectivity towards Cr (VI) and tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) detection. The detection limits for Cr (VI) and TC using Cu-BCDs were 0.34 and 0.86 μM, while Cu-GCDs showed detection limits of 0.47 and 0.50 μM, respectively, demonstrating the broad application prospect for Cu-CDs in sensing applications.

Nanoscale drug delivery systems derived from natural bioactive materials accelerate the innovation and evolution of cancer treatment modalities. Morusin (Mor) is a prenylated flavonoid compound with high cancer chemoprevention activity, however, the poor water solubility, low active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) loading content, and instability compromise its bioavailability and therapeutic effectiveness. Herein, a full-API carrier-free nanoparticle is developed based on the self-assembly of indocyanine green (ICG), copper ions (Cu 2+ ) and Mor, termed as IMCNs, via coordination-driven and π-π stacking for synergistic tumor therapy. The IMCNs exhibits a desirable loading content of Mor (58.7 %) and pH/glutathione (GSH)-responsive motif. Moreover, the photothermal stability and photo-heat conversion efficiency (42.8 %) of IMCNs are improved after coordination with Cu 2+ and help to achieve photothermal therapy. Afterward, the released Cu 2+ depletes intracellular overexpressed GSH and mediates Fenton-like reactions, and further synergizes with ICG at high temperatures to expand oxidative damage. Furthermore, the released Mor elicits cytoplasmic vacuolation, expedites mitochondrial dysfunction, and exerts chemo-photothermal therapy after being combined with ICG to suppress the migration of residual live tumor cells. In vivo experiments demonstrate that IMCNs under laser irradiation could excellently inhibit tumor growth (89.6 %) through the multi-modal therapeutic performance of self-enhanced chemotherapy/coordinated-drugs/ photothermal therapy (PTT), presenting a great potential for cancer therapy.

In this study, nanotwinned Cu nanowires (nt-Cu NWs) with varying twin characteristics were fabricated via pulse electrodeposition using a novel H 3 BO 3 based electrolyte, and their impact on the oxidation process was investigated. The density and direction of twin lamellas within nt-Cu NW were adjusted by modifying the concentration of H 3 BO 3 and the current density. Specifically, the average twinning thickness of Cu NWs increases from 26.7 nm to 424.5 nm as the concentration of H 3 BO 3 increases from 0 g/L to 6 g/L. Moreover, three types of nt-Cu NWs with distinct twinning directions, namely waterfall type, bevel type, and ladder type were fabricated by changing the current density from −0.16 ASD to -1.6 ASD (vs Ag/AgCl). A nanowire Winand (NWW) diagram was established to describe the change of twin density and direction based on the difference between the growth behaviour of thin films and nanowires. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were further used to characterize the oxidation process of nt-Cu NWs. It revealed that the oxide thickness was closely related to the thickness of twin lamellas for the ladder type nt-Cu NWs. Also, the waterfall type Cu NWs exhibited a unique bead-chain like oxide morphology and a slower oxidation rate through the impact on the nanoscale Kirkendall effect (NKE). This study provides valuable insights into the controllable fabrication of nt-Cu NWs and Cu oxide NWs.

The development of efficient, stable, and cost-effective electrocatalysts is crucial for advancing water-splitting technologies toward sustainable hydrogen production. This study introduces nickel molybdate nanorod-nanoflower (NiMoO 4 NRFs) blends decorated with copper nanodots (Cu NDs) on nickel foam (NF) as a dual electrocatalyst. Under alkaline conditions, the Cu NDs/NiMoO 4 NRFs/NF catalyst demonstrated impressive catalytic performance, requiring only −98 mV overpotential for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and 208 mV for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at 10 mA cm −2 . Tafel slope analysis confirmed efficient kinetics, while impedance spectroscopy and capacitance measurements revealed enhanced charge transfer and abundant active sites. The catalyst demonstrated excellent stability for over 160 h, with improved performance after extended durability tests. It achieved a cell voltage of 1.57 V for overall water splitting at 10 mA cm −2 . Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed optimal Gibbs free energy for hydrogen adsorption (ΔG *H = −0.03 eV) and suitable oxygen evolution adsorption energy (ΔG *OOH − ΔG *OH = 2.72 eV), along with a lower water splitting barrier (ΔG b = 0.57 eV), supported by synergistic effects between Cu NDs and NiMoO 4 . Structural characterization confirmed uniform Cu nanodot decoration, enhancing electron transfer. This work presents a scalable, cost-effective approach to high-performance electrocatalysts for sustainable energy.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has witnessed remarkable progress in recent years owing to its specific properties. Given that the antioxidation system of tumor microenvironment (TME) adversely affects treatment outcomes, powerful TME modulators can significantly resolve the limitation of PDT. Herein, we developed a PEG-modified Cu 2+ -doped hollow mesoporous carbon nanozyme (CHC-PEG) and loaded insoluble photosensitizer IR780 into its pores and cavities to construct the multifunctional nano-system IR780/CHCP. CHC-PEG nanozyme could perform photothermal therapy (PTT) effect and protect IR780 from aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect, while exerting peroxidase (POD)-mimetic activity and the ability of consuming glutathione (GSH) to achieve oxidative stress-augmented PDT effect. When exposed to near-infrared (NIR) light, IR780 was stimulated to produce singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and CHC-PEG could increase the temperature of TME to exert stronger POD-mimetic activity for producing more hydroxyl radicals ( OH), therefore the IR780/CHCP nano-system exhibited remarkable tumor growth inhibition. Benefited by the enhanced synergistic effect, IR780/CHCP exhibited remarkable in vivo tumor growth inhibition, with the tumor inhibition rate of 93 %, and had no significant effect on major organs. Above all, IR780/CHCP could resist the antioxidant system in TME to enhance the level of oxidative stress, thereby enabling effective anti-tumor therapy. This study introduced a novel strategy to effectively promote the synergistic PTT/PDT effect by the enhanced oxidative stress.

Copper in drinking water causes a significant environmental problem. Composite material based on alginate hydrogel has been gaining attention in the field of Cu(II) adsorption. However, alginate-based hydrogel exhibits poor mechanical property and relative low adsorption capacity which limit their application. The present study is devoted to the modification of chitosan/calcium alginate/Fe 3 O 4 (CAF) hydrogel microsphere by NaOH solution for enhancement of Cu(II) adsorption. Results reveal that modification of CAF via NaOH solution significantly improves the mechanical strength and Cu 2+ adsorption capacity of pristine materials. FTIR and XRD analysis confirms that CAF and newly prepared materials (NACAF) are successfully prepared. SEM and EDX are employed to analyze the surface morphology and elemental composition, respectively, both before and after their loading with Cu 2+ . XPS study demonstrates adsorption mechanism is based on chelation and ion-exchange. Compressive stress-strain curves demonstrate NACAF has better mechanical performance than CAF. The adsorption kinetics of the two adsorbents follow a pseudo-second-order model. The equilibrium data were best described by Langmuir isotherm model, and the estimated maximum equilibrium sorption capacity, q
m ,is 261.31 mg/g for the NACAF, which is larger than that of CAF (145.39 mg/g). Hence, NACAF shows excellent mechanical strength and high sorption capacity for Cu 2+ . It has great potential for Cu(II) removal in aqueous solutions.

Sn grain orientation in solder matrix has recently been considered as one of the principal failure contributions in lead-free solder joints. Since β -Sn exhibits high anisotropy, the differences of electromigration behavior of solder joints with various grain orientations are dramatic. With different angle ( θ ) between the c -axis of Sn grain and the direction of electron flow, the solder joints often demonstrate varying degrees of electromigration-induced damage. The present investigation illustrated significant differences in microstructural features on the surface of Cu reinforced composite solder joints, even with similar angle θ . Two Cu particles reinforced Sn 3.5 Ag composite solder joints with the similar angle θ of 35° and 40° were selected to investigate the effects of Sn grain c -axis on electromigration under high current stressing for 528 h. A large number of Cu 6 Sn 5 compounds were observed and occupied nearly the whole surface with clear polarization effect in one sample. In contrast, very few Cu 6 Sn 5 were found on the surface of the solder matrix in the other sample after current stressing, and the Cu 6 Sn 5 which was formed after reflow disappeared with subsequent current stressing. Even though polarization effect was not obvious, and the cathode interfacial dissolution was observed on such sample. Systematic study revealed that the angle θ alone was not a sole factor to determine the electromigration damage. It has to be considered along with the coordinate system containing the orientation of the c -axis of the Sn grain, a more dominative factor for the diffusing species.
