Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has witnessed remarkable progress in recent years owing to its specific properties. Given that the antioxidation system of tumor microenvironment (TME) adversely affects treatment outcomes, powerful TME modulators can significantly resolve the limitation of PDT. Herein, we developed a PEG-modified Cu 2+ -doped hollow mesoporous carbon nanozyme (CHC-PEG) and loaded insoluble photosensitizer IR780 into its pores and cavities to construct the multifunctional nano-system IR780/CHCP. CHC-PEG nanozyme could perform photothermal therapy (PTT) effect and protect IR780 from aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect, while exerting peroxidase (POD)-mimetic activity and the ability of consuming glutathione (GSH) to achieve oxidative stress-augmented PDT effect. When exposed to near-infrared (NIR) light, IR780 was stimulated to produce singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and CHC-PEG could increase the temperature of TME to exert stronger POD-mimetic activity for producing more hydroxyl radicals ( OH), therefore the IR780/CHCP nano-system exhibited remarkable tumor growth inhibition. Benefited by the enhanced synergistic effect, IR780/CHCP exhibited remarkable in vivo tumor growth inhibition, with the tumor inhibition rate of 93 %, and had no significant effect on major organs. Above all, IR780/CHCP could resist the antioxidant system in TME to enhance the level of oxidative stress, thereby enabling effective anti-tumor therapy. This study introduced a novel strategy to effectively promote the synergistic PTT/PDT effect by the enhanced oxidative stress.

A simple and efficient dual-signal electrochemical sensor was designed for glyphosate (GLYP) determination based on the one-step electro-synthesized Cu-Hemin MOFs/CNTs nanocrystals. Cu-Hemin MOFs/CNTs were directly modified on the electrode through electrodeposition, avoiding complicated synthesis and modification processes. The incorporation of CNTs greatly boosted the conductivity of Cu-Hemin MOFs and the sensitivity of the electrochemical sensor. Cu active sites in Cu-Hemin MOFs were converted to CuCl, allowing the specific detection of GLYP with the turn of CuCl into non-electroactive Cu-GLYP. Meanwhile, GLYP showed highly effective inhibition effect on the inherent peroxidase-like activity of Cu-Hemin MOFs, therefore generating the second electrochemical signal with Cu-Hemin MOFs-catalyzed o -phenylenediamine ( o -PD) + H 2 O 2 system. The Cu-Hemin MOFs/CNTs based sensor with two electrochemical signals showed good linearities of 1.0 × 10 −10 M − 3.0 × 10 −6 M and 1.0 × 10 −10 M − 5.0 × 10 −5 M, with detection limits of 5.17 × 10 −12 M and 6.81 × 10 −12 M for the CuCl signal based assay and nanozyme catalyzed o -PD + H 2 O 2 procedure, respectively. This simple and robust dual-signal sensor with excellent selectivity, accuracy, and stability allowed GLYP quantification in real samples, highlighting the potential application of this approach for food and environmental monitoring. The existing films used for fruit preservation suffer from insufficient preservation abilities. This study introduces Cu-tannic acid (Cu-TA) nanoparticles, synthesized from tannic acid (TA) and Cu 2+ , to enhance food packaging properties. Integrated into a chitosan-gelatin (CG) matrix, the resultant Cu-TA nanocomposite films exhibit superior antibacterial efficacy and killing rates of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus more than 99 %, and double the shelf life of strawberries, underscoring the exceptional freshness preservation capabilities of film. Additionally, the tensile strength of the Cu-TA nanocomposite films increased by 1.75 times, the DPPH radical scavenging percentage increased from 29.4 % to 68.4 %, and the water vapor permeability (WVP) decreased by about 60 % compared to the pure CG films. Comprehensive cytotoxicity and migration assessments confirm the safety of film, paving the way for their application in food packaging. The excellent performance of the Cu-TA nanocomposite films positions them as a formidable solution for protecting perishable food items.

Photothermal evaporation is an efficient way to utilize solar energy to desalinate seawater for freshwater resources, which can effectively alleviate the press on accessing to freshwater in water-scarce countries and regions. Here, a highly efficient ternary composite consisting of Bi 2 WO 6 , copper and carbon is developed as a photothermal conversion material for solar-driven water evaporation (SDWE) systems. This composite is coated on the top of a base consisting of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam and hydrophilic fiber paper to construct an interface evaporator, enabling sustainable solar-driven freshwater production. Due to its wide light absorbing range, localized photothermal conversion and low evaporation enthalpy, the solar steam generation (SSG) through Cu@Bi 2 WO 6 -based evaporator could be accelerated, thus a high evaporation rate of 2.07 kg m −2 h −1 and an evaporation efficiency of 97 % are obtained under one sun, outperforming the-state-of-art evaporators. This work proposes a feasible way to deal with freshwater shortage.

In order to improve the evaporation efficiency of solar-driven interface water, Cu-Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were synthesized in this work, and nanoparticle films with excellent light absorption properties were prepared by vacuum filtration. Benefiting from the combination of the nanoparticle film and the thermal insulation materials, nanoparticle film coupled with thermal insulation materials exhibits good evaporation performance. Effects of the type of thermal insulation materials (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer (EVA), Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA), Polystyrene (PS)), the superficial density of nanoparticles (0 g/m 2 , 0.4 g/m 2 , 0.8 g/m 2 and 1.2 g/m 2 ) and the radiation intensity (2 sun, 3 sun, 4 sun) on the evaporation characteristic were studied. Results descripted that when the radiation intensity of 2 sun is used, the interfacial structure composed of the nanoparticle film with a superficial density of 1.2 g/m 2 and the thermal insulation material EVA has the best evaporation performance (evaporation rate is 2.19 kg/m 2 /h, evaporation efficiency is 68.62 %, thermal efficiency is 84.68 %). Although the addition of thermal insulation material reduces the temperature rise of water, it improves the evaporation efficiency of nanoparticle film. This paper provides a solar interface evaporation method for photothermal evaporation.

TiO 2 semiconductor has the disadvantages of energy bandwidth, low photo-quantum efficiency, and electron-hole pair easy recombination, which makes TiO 2 semiconductor photocatalytic materials cannot be widely used efficiently. Here, a simple and low-cost method is used to prepare TiO 2 /C/Cu hybrid by in-situ carbon reduction by chemical vapor deposition. During high-temperature calcination, an amorphous carbon is formed on the surface of anatase TiO 2 , and CuO is reduced by in-situ carbon to obtain Cu. Partial Cu-doping into TiO 2 introduces defects, and in-situ Cu and C loads act as electron traps to reduce photogenerated electron/hole recombination. Compared with the original TiO 2 , the TiO 2 /C/Cu hybrids have a narrow band gap (2.77 eV) and abundant defect active sites and have excellent photocatalytic activity to improve the degradation of formaldehyde (HCHO) and methyl orange (MO) under visible light. In addition, after 4 cycles, the degradation of HCHO and MO still maintained excellent stability. This innovation has many potential applications in the future, including air purification and industry.

Transition-state shape selectivity plays a crucial role in catalytic systems where reactants and products exhibit comparable molecular dimensions, as it restricts the accessible configuration space of reaction intermediates. Herein, we designed a Cu@MFI catalyst by encapsulating Cu active sites within the well-defined micropores of MFI zeolite through a pore confinement strategy. This architecture preserves the zeolite framework integrity while maintaining unhindered internal mass transport, thereby enabling precise spatial control over transition-state configurations. Employing furfural hydrogenation as a probe reaction, the metal-zeolite synergy in Cu@MFI endowed the catalyst with exceptional activity (100% furfural conversion) and quantitative selectivity (100% furfuryl alcohol) at 70 °C, sustained across a broad temperature window. Mechanistic studies reveal that the transition-state shape selectivity effectively prevented H 2 O interaction with the furan ring, offering valuable insights for other reaction systems seeking to exploit shape selectivity for specific transformations.

Cu shows unique characteristics for electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) to hydrocarbons and oxygenates due to the moderate adsorption energy of the key intermediate *CO. However, it remains a challenge to selectively control CO 2 RR towards C 1 (e.g., CH 4 ) or C 2+ (e.g., C 2 H 4 and C 2 H 5 OH) through simple interface engineering. Herein, a series of inverse catalysts, composed of CeO 2 nanoparticles over Cu substrate (Cu-CeO 2 -x), are subtly designed to tackle the issues. It is verified CeO 2 decoration induces highly active Cu/CeO 2 interfacial sites that enhance the adsorption and conversion of CO 2 and *CO intermediates into C 2+ or CH 4 , while the Cu sites are conducive to *CO generation. With the increase of CeO 2 deposition, the C 2+ and CH 4 selectivity present a volcano-type and increasing tendency with maximum faradic efficiency of 62.6% and 51.3%, respectively. In-situ infrared spectroscopy and theoretical calculations reveal that moderate CeO 2 loading allows the Cu/CeO 2 interfacial sites to cooperate efficiently with the Cu sites to promote the coupling of *CO/*CHO intermediates, thus enhancing the C 2+ selectivity. In contrast, excessive CeO 2 loading suppresses the C─C coupling but boosts unilaterally the hydrogenation, thus promoting the CH 4 production. This work provides effective strategies to regulate the CO 2 RR selectivity by modulating metal/oxide interfaces.

Metal clusters or even single-atoms dispersed and anchored on the photocatalysts’ surface can enhance photocatalytic performances on organic pollutant oxidation. Here, a simple photoreduction method was used to create atomically dispersed metal single-atoms/clusters (MSCs, M = Cu, Pd, Au and Ag) on P-modulated tubular carbon nitride (TCN). The obtained MSCs@TCN demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performances for the degradation of sulfamethazine (SMZ). In particular, the photocatalyst with 2 wt% Cu loading showed ultrahigh SMZ oxidation efficiency ( k = 0.06110 min −1 ), almost three times that of TCN ( k = 0.02066 min −1 ). It also shows excellent stability in the 5th-cycle measurements. The improved photocatalytic activity of the CuSCs@TCN is ascribed to the synergistic promotion of photogenerated charge separation by Cu single-atoms/clusters as active sites, accelerated charge transfer from bulk TCN to Cu sites through Cu–N x interaction. Meanwhile, the active sites of Cu single-atoms/clusters could promote the production of ·O 2 − , which participates in organic oxidation with strong oxidizing holes (h + ). This strategy paves a new avenue for designing high-performance photocatalysts decorated with metal single-atoms and clusters.

In this study, a feasible strategy is proposed for directly depositing high-quality Cu(In,Ga)Se2(CIGS) films using Na-doped targets in a selenium-free atmosphere to boost the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of CIGS solar cells. Introducing a small amount of sodium dopant effectively promoted the textured growth of CIGS crystals in the prepared films, resulting in larger grain sizes and a smoother interface. The higher MoSe2content at the CIGS/Mo interface increased the carrier lifetime in the films. In addition, sodium doping increased the proportion of Se atoms on the film surface and reduced the concentration of defects caused by the direct sputtering of the films in the selenium-free atmosphere. Therefore, the separation and transportation of photo-generated carriers in the devices were effectively enhanced. Using the optimized parameters, a record-high PCE of 17.26% was achieved for the 7.5% Na-doped devices, which represents an improvement of nearly 63%.Keywords:Cu(In,Ga)Se2;sodium-doped targets;magnetron sputtering;solar cells

The development of efficient materials for adsorption desulfurization has attracted much attention for the safety of humans and the ecosystem. Metal–organic frameworks have shown promise in removing organic sulfur compounds in liquid fuels, while another star material – MXene has rarely been applied in this field. In this study, Ti3C2Tx MXene/Cu-MOF composites with different MXene contents (3.3%, 6.7%, and 13.3%) were synthesized via an in situ precipitation method. Characterization showed that the Cu-MOF was successfully coated on the surface of Ti3C2Tx MXene and partially embedded between the MXene nanosheets, restraining the agglomeration of both MXene and the Cu-MOF. The optimal composite-3.3%MXene/Cu-MOF presented the largest surface area of 166.6 m2 g−1. Compared to MXene and Cu-MOF, 3.3%MXene/Cu-MOF exhibited an enhanced adsorption performance for methyl phenyl sulfide in the model fuel with an equilibrium adsorption capacity of 87.4 mg g−1. Furthermore, the effects of adsorption parameters, adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms, and the adsorption mechanism, and regenerative performance of 3.3%MXene/Cu-MOF were comprehensively discussed. A pseudo-second order kinetic model and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm were found to better explicate the adsorption behavior on 3.3%MXene/Cu-MOF, which exhibited a theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 183.9 mg g−1. This work hopes to shed light on the material design for adsorption desulfurization.

This work investigated the reaction behaviors of diethylamine (DEA) catalytic oxidation on various Cu-based catalysts with different supports (TiO 2 , HZSM-5(27), HZSM-5(130) and S-1). It was found that the acidic environment of catalysts greatly influenced reaction pathways of DEA oxidation. On Cu 5 /TiO 2 catalyst mainly with Lewis acidity, DEA preferentially dissociated through a two-step dehydrogenation to produce acetonitrile and ethylene, while on Cu 5 /HZSM-5(27) catalyst with strong Brønsted acidity, DEA could directly decompose into ethylamine and ethylene via N-C cleavage. Both pathways existed simultaneously over Cu 5 /HZSM-5(130) with decreased Brønsted acidity. Thereafter, acetonitrile could be further oxidized on the Cu 5 /TiO 2 catalyst to generate a large amount of NO x via NCO(a) intermediates over-oxidation, while ethylamine on Cu 5 /HZSM-5 samples would convert to acetamide and then produced N 2 and CO 2 . The Cu 2+ species due to enriched Brønsted acid sites in Cu 5 /HZSM-5 catalysts ensured excellent N 2 selectivity via internal SCR mechanism. Additionally, the strong Brønsted acidity of Cu 5 /HZSM-5(27) could induce the polymerization of carbonaceous intermediates and thereby resulted in severe coke deposition. As for Cu 5 /HZSM-5(130) and Cu 5 /S-1 with relatively lower Brønsted acidity and reducibility would release some unwanted gas-phase by-products like ethyl-isocyanate. This work provided useful guidance for designing NVOCs catalysts with high activity and less toxic by-products.
