Designing organic–inorganic hybrid semiconductors is an effective strategy for improving the performance of the photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. In this experiment, we firstly introduced Cu into perylenediimide supramolecules (PDIsm) to prepare the novel Cu-dopped PDIsm (CuPDIsm) with one-dimensional structure and then incorporated CuPDIsm with TiO2 to improve the photocatalytic performance. The introduction of Cu in PDIsm increases both the visible light adsorption and specific surface areas. Cu2+ coordination link between adjacent perylenediimide (PDI) moleculars and H-type π–π stacking of the aromatic core greatly accelerate the electron transfer in CuPDIsm system. Moreover, the photo-induced electrons generated by CuPDIsm migrate to TiO2 nanoparticles through hydrogen bond and electronic coupling at the TiO2/CuPDIsm heterojunction, which further accelerates the electron transfer and the separation efficiency of the charge carriers. So, the TiO2/CuPDIsm composites exhibit excellent photodegradation activity under visible light irradiation, reaching the maximum values of 89.87 and 97.26% toward tetracycline and methylene blue, respectively. This study provides new prospects for the development of metal-dopping organic systems and the construction of inorganic–organic heterojunctions, which can effectively enhance the electron transfer and improve the photocatalytic performance.

Photocatalytic valorization is a sustainable approach for converting glycerol to value-added chemicals under ambient conditions, which remains challenging. Herein, using Au/TiO 2 as photocatalyst, we report glycerol oxidation reaction in non-pressurized reactor with borate additives. The activity and selectivity of photocatalytic glycerol oxidation depends on Au loading, borate concentration and solution pH. Both superoxide and hydroxyl radicals are generated due to oxygen reduction and water oxidation by photoexcited charge carriers. Apart from coordinating and protecting the oxidized intermediates from further oxidation, borate additives are discovered to up-regulate the superoxide radical generation, beneficial for C3 products formation. In pH 12 solution, C3 products selectivity of 58% and 37% on liquid-phase and carbon basis respectively, was realized at 94% glycerol conversion under AM 1.5 G irradiation for 4 h. Our finding may help guiding future catalyst design for photocatalytic biomass valorizations, where a balanced oxidative power is needed to steer the reaction pathway.

Supported Cu single-atom (Cu-SA) catalysts have exhibited unique activity and selectivity in CO 2 reduction, but they generally suffer from the easy transformation of active Cu δ+ into inactive Cu 0 . Herein, porous TiO 2 supported Cu single atoms (Cu-SAs/TiO 2 ) photocatalyst was fabricated and dioxygen (O 2 ) enhanced photocatalytic CO 2 reduction performance of Cu-SAs/TiO 2 was investigated by in-situ characterizations and theoretical calculations. The results showed that both activity and stability of Cu-SAs/TiO 2 photocatalyst could be improved by feeding a small amount of O 2 (117.6 ppm) in the reaction system. The competitive electron transfer to O 2 on Cu-SAs/TiO 2 maintained dynamic stability of Cu δ+ active sites, and O 2 -derived *OOH species lowered the formation energy barrier of key intermediate *COOH as well as delivered *H species for accelerating intermediates protonation process. Total yield rate of CH 4 and CO reached 34.64 μmol·g cat ·h −1 for CO 2 photoreduction over Cu-SAs/TiO 2 after introducing 117.6 ppm O 2 , accompanied by enhanced durability.

The roles of benzoic acid and its derivatives in the photocatalytic degradation of tartrazine (TZ) by titanium dioxide have been studied. A series of comparative experiments were carried out, such as the experimental comparisons of concentrations, pH values, effects on the para-position of benzoic acid, gas atmospheres, and different target pollutants. It should be noted that the degradation rate of TZ solution without benzoic acid and benzoic acid after degradation for 90 min was 28.69 and 99.08%, respectively. The reason for the above results is that benzoic acid acts as an electron donor to react with photogenerated holes, suppressing the recombination of photogenerated holes and electrons, and thus causing a significant increase in the degradation rate. Moreover, the degradation process is mainly induced by O2•– and photogenerated holes (h+). It is the first time that the benzoic acid/TiO2 system has been used to degrade the TZ dye. In addition, the benzoic acid/TiO2 system is also suitable for the degradation of other organic dyes such as methyl orange, rhodamine B, methylene blue, and methyl violet.

In this work, a mesoporous structure TiO 2 /SiO 2 (M-TS) composite with excellent adsorption and photocatalytic properties was fabricated by a sol–gel process combined with calcination. The structure of the samples was characterised by scanning electron microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. The factors influencing the adsorption behaviours of methylene blue (MB) onto M-TS, including ingredient, dosage, initial concentration and temperature were investigated. The M-TS was produced by removing poly(vinylpyrrolidone) from the precursor gel was vital to the excellent adsorption capacity. Furthermore, the isotherm and kinetic data were fitted by using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equations, and the intra-particle diffusion model. The Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order kinetics were the most suitable models for describing the adsorption of MB onto M-TS. It was also found that the adsorption capacity of cationic dyes on M-TS is better than that of anionic dyes. The experimental results of adsorption and photodegradation proved that improvement of adsorption capacity enhances the decolourisation efficiency. This work shows that the M-TS could be used as an effective adsorbent and photocatalyst to remove cationic dyes from wastewater.

Titanium oxide is a potential high temperature reflective material due to its high melting point, large refractive index , and suitable band gap. The flexible TiO 2 ceramic fibers membrane was successfully fabricated by sol–gel method using the polyacetylacetonetitanium (PAT) as the precursor. In order to obtain high-quality TiO 2 fibers, the PAT precursor with good stability and good spinnability was optimized by adjusting the molar ratio of acetylacetone to Ti to 1:1. The TiO 2 fibers heat-treated at 700 °C had a diameter of 400–500 nm. The crystal phase of TiO 2 fibers was anatase, and the surface of fibers was smooth without obvious defects. In addition, the TiO 2 ceramic fibers membrane heat-treated at 700 °C had good flexibility and tensile strength , and the average reflectance in the wavelength range of 500–2500 nm was up to 91.3%. The fibers membrane exhibits a significant reflection effect in the practical experiments and maintained good morphology of the fibers after 1200 °C test.

A convenient photoelectrochemical sensor was constructed based on the synergistic contributions of an ultrathin BiOCl nanosheet and anchored TiO2 nanoparticles to detect the organophosphorus pesticide chlorpyrifos. As expected, the fabricated heterostructure showed a distinct improvement in photocurrent intensity compared with pristine BiOCl and TiO2. This remarkable enhancement may be attributed to the separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carries, which benefit from intimate interfacial interactions between the ultrathin BiOCl nanosheets and TiO2 nanoparticles. Based on the robust photocurrent signal, a novel PEC sensor was established for the sensitive and selective detection of chlorpyrifos. The as-fabricated PEC sensor demonstrates many advantages such as a wide linear range of 1–12 μM, a low detection limit of 0.11 μM, S/N = 3, and remarkable convenience, which provides a general format for chlorpyrifos detection in green vegetable analysis.

Formation of heterostructure and nanostructure is promising approach to improving the photocatalytic activity of TiO 2 based photocatalysts . In this work, MoS 2 @TiO 2 @poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was prepared by freeze drying of hydrothermally treated electrospun PMMA nanofibers containing titanium n-butoxide and MoS 2 nanosheets . As-prepared nanocomposite revealed a 3D nanofiber network structure with high specific surface (83.6 m 2 /g), in which MoS 2 nanosheets loaded with TiO 2 nanoparticles were distributed on the surface of PMMA fibers. MoS 2 @TiO 2 @PMMA showed better photocatalytic performance than MoS 2 @PMMA, TiO 2 @PMMA, MoS 2 @TiO 2 and MoS 2 @P25@PMMA towards the photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) under UV illumination. Typically, MoS 2 @TiO 2 @PMMA (100 mg) could degrade MO (10 mg/L, 100 mL) completely in 40 min under UV irradiation , revealing good photocatalytic activity . Moreover, the nanocomposite could be facilely recovered by filtration, and maintain almost the same photocatalytic activity after cycling tests for ten times, indicating excellent stability and recyclability. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposite might relate to the heterostructure between MoS 2 and TiO 2 to suppress the recombination of photo-induced charge, and the 3D hierarchical nanoweb structure to afford large specific surface area and high density of active sites.

A simple way to introduce nickel doping into TiO 2 nanotube arrays by anodizing Ti-Ni alloy followed with thermal annealing is presented. The additional nickel has significant effect on the phase transformation behavior of TiO 2 nanotubes, which is of great significance in the construction of anatase-rutile heterojunction. GAXRD and DSC analysis results clearly demonstrate that the doping of nickel largely decreases the anatase-rutile phase transformation temperature of TiO 2 nanotubes from approximately 600–450 °C. XPS and TEM analyses reveal the nickel dopants mainly exist in the form of Ni 2+ , and successfully enter the titainia lattice by replacing Ti 4+ . The substitution doping of nickel and the subsequently increase of oxygen vacancies play important role in promoting the phase transformation from anatase to rutile.

TiO2micro-/nano-structures with different morphologies have been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The effects of the solvents on the morphology and structure of the obtained products have been studied. The objective of the present paper is to compare the photocatalytic properties of the obtained TiO2products. During the synthesis process, the tetrabutyl titanate and titanium (IV) fluoride were used as the titanium source. The obtained micro-/nano-structures were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by the degradation of Rhodamine B solution under simulated solar irradiation. It is found that the morphologies and structures of TiO2have a great influence on its photocatalytic activity. Compared with other samples, TiO2flower clusters assembled with nanorods exhibited a superior photocatalytic activity in the degradation of Rhodamine B.Keywords:TiO2;different morphologies;photocatalytic activity;formation mechanisms

In recent years, nanoscale particles have been applied in the utilisation of solar energy due to their excellent properties. In light of the multiple functions of composite nanoparticles, some solar-assisted systems have been developed and exhibited comprehensive photoelectric and photo-thermal transformation effects. However, the presence of nanoparticles in these systems can cause secondary pollution and severely limit large-scale application of the solar technology. Herein we developed a recyclable photo-thermal conversion and purification system based on Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles decorated with TiO 2 nanoparticles, which could be separated from water under the action of a magnetic force. Under the solar illumination power of 1 sun (1 sun = 1000 W·m −2 ), thermal receiver efficiency of 76.4% and Rhodamine B degradation efficiency of 85% were obtained with a 0.1 g/L Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 nanofluid. With the increase of the solar illumination power, the degradation efficiency has been increased to 94%. The recovery rate and efficiency could be controlled by adjusting the magnetic field strength and the magnetic property of Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 nanoparticles. This study provides an approach to not only significantly reduce material consumption in the design of solar devices, but also to realise broad solar energy applications for water purification and photo-thermal conversion.

Highly flexible Fe 2 O 3 /TiO 2 composite nanofibers were successfully synthesized via electrospinning followed by high-temperature calcination . The morphologies and structures of Fe 2 O 3 /TiO 2 nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, and their optical properties , photocatalysis and photodetection properties were also measured. The flexible nanofibers possess large specific surface area, and can be recycled by a magnet. Moreover, the absorption region has been extended from the UV region to the visible region, improving the performance of photocatalyst under visible light radiation . In addition, the formation of Fe 2 O 3 /TiO 2 heterostructures suppresses the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, which also improves the photocatalyst behavior. Particularly, these nanofibers can also work as a sensitive UV detector, which offers in situ monitor method of such photocatalysis materials.
