Atherosclerosis (AS) is a risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and early diagnosis and plaque removal are challenges in the management of AS and CVD. To address these challenges, we designed a tungsten‑doped polydopamine nanoparticle (W-PDA NPs). The near-infrared (NIR) optical absorption and enzymatic properties of W-PDA were tuned by adjusting the ratio of W 6+ to PDA. It was found that the W-PDA NPs contain a mixture of W 6+ and W 5+ , which generated large amounts of free electrons, thus conferring both second near-infrared (NIR-II) light absorption capability and superoxide dismutase (SOD)- and catalase (CAT)-like activities. Plaque-targeting was conferred by appending an anti-osteopontin antibody via coordination between carboxyl moieties of the antibody with W 6+ ions on the W-PDA surface. The NIR-II light absorption ability can be utilized for photoacoustic diagnosis of AS, while the SOD- and CAT-like activities facilitate the conversion of superoxide into H 2 O 2 and subsequently O 2 , thereby clearing reactive oxygen species and mitigating inflammation, enabling therapy of AS. Thus, the proposed theranostic agent not only can dynamically report the progression of AS but also can effectively treat AS plaques. This strategy holds broad application prospects in the early and accurate diagnosis and treatment of AS.

A CD44-targeted, NIR-II-responsive nanoplatform (CuS@ZIF-8/HA NPs) was developed for TNBC therapy. • Acidic TME triggers ZIF-8 decomposition, releasing Cu 2+ for sustained mitochondrial copper overload. • Cu + drives lipoylated DLAT oligomerization, the core event of cuproptosis. • NIR-II photothermal therapy (55.6 °C) synergizes with cuproptosis for enhanced tumor ablation. • In vivo : pronounced tumor suppression without relapse or toxicity. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacks targetable receptors and rapidly expels cytotoxic copper via ATPase copper–transporting alpha/beta (ATP7A/B) pumps, rendering conventional cuproptosis inducers ineffective. We report an acid-activatable, CD44-directed nanoplatform (CuS@ZIF-8/HA NPs) that converts NIR-II irradiation into a synchronized mitochondrial “copper flood–heat shock” event. In the acidic tumor microenvironment, ZIF-8 decomposes and releases Cu 2+ , which is reduced to cytotoxic Cu + , triggering oligomerization of lipoylated dihydrolipoamide S-acetyltransferase (DLAT), the core driver of cuproptosis. Concomitant ferredoxin 1 (FDX1) protein degradation serves as a downstream biochemical marker of cuproptotic injury. The photothermal effect (55.6 °C at 1 W cm −2 ) simultaneously accelerates copper release, amplifies oxidative damage, and ablates cells by hyperthermia. In 4 T1 tumor mice model, eight i.v. doses (10 mg kg −1 ) plus NIR-II light achieved profound tumor suppression without relapse or systemic toxicity, outperforming either monotherapy. Thus, CuS@ZIF-8/HA NPs turns NIR-II light into a spatially confined cuproptotic-photothermal double hit, offering a safe, precise, and translatable strategy against therapy-refractory TNBC. Simultaneous realizations of high thermal stability and quantum efficiency (QE) in phosphors with near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) and long-persistent PL (LPL) attributes are a daunting task. Herein, we have come up with a dual-site co-substitution scheme in Ca 3 Sc 2 Ge 3 O 12 : Cr 3+ /Ni 2+ to concurrently actualize high-quality NIR-I/II (L)PL via either equivalent or aliovalent co-substitution at indirect lattice A/C sites of [Y 3+ + Al 3+ ] or [Y 3+ + Si 4+ ] for [Ca 2+ + Ge 4+ ]. Both Cr 3+ and Ni 2+ are colonized at B site (Sc 3+ ) under weak crystal field environment and emitting continuous PL across NIR-I/II regions via energy transfer from Cr 3+ to Ni 2+ under blue-light excitation. Due to inequivalent replacement of Ni 2+ at Sc 3+ site and consequential production of defects, a charming NIR LPL is also gained. Further incorporation of [Y 3+ + Al 3+ ] unit begets densified robust framework with [Sc(Cr/Ni)O 6 ] octahedral distortion, elucidating the mechanism of improved properties in PL QE (76.23%) and stability (89.5%@423 K). While [Y 3+ + Si 4+ ] modulation in Ca 3 Sc 2 Ge 3 O 12 not only brings rigid structure but also suppresses defects (LPL) because of equivalent triple-unit between Y 3+ /Si 4+ /Ni 2+ and Ca 2+ /Ge 4+ /Sc 3+ . A NIR pc-LED based on the designed phosphor with a commercial 460 nm blue LED chip is fabricated and reveals multi-applications in nondestructive detection, bioimaging, and anticounterfeiting. This work provides new perspectives for developing high-performance NIR-emitting phosphor materials. This study reveals the state-of-the-art researches on both NIR-I/II-emitting (L)PL phosphors with high QE and thermal stability from Cr/Ni-activated in garnet Ca 3 Sc 2 Ge 3 O 12 and their multiple applications in the NIR pc-LED, non-destructive detection, and anticounterfeiting. The proposed A/C-site regulation and ET from Cr to Ni pave a new way to design NIR-I/II phosphor and expands their related optoelectronic applications. Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), devoid of actionable targets for endocrine or HER2-directed therapy, is highly aggressive with elevated risks of recurrence and metastasis; surgical resection remains the mainstay of treatment, and postoperative chemotherapy serves as a key adjuvant modality for controlling residual disease. Doxorubicin (DOX), although widely used, shows limited tumor selectivity, considerable systemic toxicity, and poor control over drug release at the tumor site. To address these issues, we developed near-infrared (NIR)-responsive gold-decorated phase-change nanodroplets (AuNPs-DOX-NDs) that combine photothermal conversion, liquid-to-gas phase transition, and controlled DOX release in a single platform. Methods: The nanodroplets consisted of a perfluorohexane (PFH) core, a DOX-loaded lipid shell, and polyethyleneimine-modified gold nanoparticles (PEI-AuNPs) conjugated to the surface as the NIR photothermal component. Physicochemical characterization was performed to evaluate morphology, colloidal dispersity, and storage stability. Under 808 nm laser irradiation, the photothermal behavior, PFH vaporization, and DOX release properties of AuNPs-DOX-NDs were investigated. In vitro studies using 4T1 TNBC cells were conducted to assess intracellular DOX accumulation, cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis. Results: Physicochemical characterization showed that the nanodroplets had a uniform nanoscale morphology, good colloidal dispersity, and acceptable storage stability. Under 808 nm laser irradiation, AuNPs-DOX-NDs exhibited concentration-dependent photothermal heating, which induced PFH vaporization and accelerated DOX release, indicating a clear stimulus-responsive release behavior. In vitro studies using 4T1 TNBC cells showed enhanced intracellular DOX accumulation after treatment with AuNPs-DOX-NDs. Upon laser irradiation, the nanodroplets further inhibited cell proliferation and migration and promoted apoptosis, suggesting an enhanced combined photothermal–chemotherapeutic effect in 4T1 TNBC cells. Conclusions: These results indicate that AuNPs-DOX-NDs may serve as a useful NIR-responsive platform for externally controlled drug release and enhanced combined photothermal-chemotherapy, and deserve further evaluation in vivo.

Cr 3+ -activated phosphor has become the mainstream choice to obtain broadband near-infrared phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (NIR pc-LED) for the applications of bio-imaging and component nondestructive detection. However, exploring efficient and stable Cr 3+ -activated NIR phosphors is still an important yet formidable challenge. Herein, a series of Na y K 3- y LiMg 4 (Si 2 O 5 ) 6 :Cr 3+ phosphors was synthesized, which exhibits a broadband emission spectrum spanning 650-1100 nm. Utilizing the innovative non-main lattice substitution strategy, the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of Cr 3+ was enhanced from 21% to 80%, and thermal stability was also improved from 42% to 70%@150 °C. Based on the first-principles theory calculation, the IQE and thermal stability improvement are attributed to the strengthened local structure stability around Cr 3+ caused by the introducing of Na + . Finally, a NIR pc-LED device was packaged by combining the optimized Na 3 LiMg 4 (Si 2 O 5 ) 6 :4%Cr 3+ phosphor with blue LED chip, which demonstrates potential applications in biological imaging and night vision systems.

BackgroundPolygonatum cyrtonema Hua (PCH) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. The components and activity are important for simultaneous quality evaluation in PCH.ObjectiveThis study aimed to establish an accurate, rapid, and comprehensive quality evaluation method by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR) for forecasting the total polysaccharides content (TPsC), total flavonoids content (TFC), and antioxidant activity (AA) in PCH.MethodsPCH samples were used to establish a model of TPsC, TFC, and AA in PCH by NIR combined with partial least-squares regression (PLS). To enhance the accuracy of the models and remove non-essential variables, we used multiple spectral preprocessing methods and multiple chemometrics to analyze the processed full spectrum, such as competitive adaptive reweighted sampling partial least-squares regression (CARS-PLS), moving-window partial least-squares regression (MW-PLS), and interval random frog partial least squares regression (iRF-PLS). The remaining samples were used to complete external validation.ResultsSatisfactory prediction results of PLS models combined with chemometrics were obtained. The optimal chemometric of TPsC, TFC, and AA selected 157, 105, and 134 variables, respectively. For the TPsC, TFC, and AA models, which incorporated optimal spectral preprocessing and chemometrics, the root-mean-square error of calibration (RMSEC, %) values were 0.743, 0.069, and 0.136, while the R2 values were above 0.95. The root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP, %) for these models were 1.00, 0.074, and 0.153, while R2 values were above 0.90. The remaining 20 samples were used to complete external validation, which confirmed the preeminent comparability and ability of the proposed method.ConclusionNIR combined with chemometrics provides an effective, fast, and nondestructive approach for evaluating quality via multiple indicators of PCH and provides a meaningful reference for evaluation of herbal medicine quality.HighlightsNIR combined with chemometrics offers an effective, quick, nondestructive way to evaluate herbal medicine quality with multiple indicators.

en This link goes to a English section zh This link goes to a Chinese section Diabetic wound infections are a common complication of diabetes, which severely impact patients' quality of life. Effective treatment of diabetic wound infections remains one major challenge in the clinic, partially due to the formation of bacterial biofilm and antibiotic resistance. It is imperative to develop non-antibiotic-dependent strategies to efficiently eradicate biofilm infections in diabetic wounds. In this work, an innovative nanospray (CDs-HM) was successfully prepared by linking one acoustic sensitizer (hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether, HMME) to CDs fabricated with hemin, nickel(II) chloride, and polymer ethylene imine. CDs-HM exhibited catalase-enhanced sonodynamic properties and photothermal-enhanced chemodynamic properties. In vitro experiments and transcriptomic analysis demonstrated that CDs-HM successfully killed the bacteria and destroyed bacterial biofilm by disrupting bacterial cell membrane integrity, inducing oxidative stress, and inhibiting ATP production through synergistic photothermal therapy/chemodynamic therapy/sonodynamic therapy (PTT/CDT/SDT) effects. In the diabetic wound infection mouse model, CDs-HM remarkably eradicated MRSA biofilm, reduced inflammation levels, and promoted angiogenesis/collagen deposition so as to accelerate wound healing. It is noteworthy that CDs-HM displayed superior bacteria killing and wound healing effects compared with conventional vancomycin and nanosilver dressing interventions. The practicality and efficiency of CDs-HM endowed it with broad clinical translation prospects. It paved the way for developing novel strategies for combating diabetic wound infections. 摘要 en This link goes to a English section zh This link goes to a Chinese section 糖尿病伤口感染是糖尿病的常见并发症,严重影响患者的生活质量。

A crosslinker-free PVA/CS hydrogel with polydopamine-engineered Ag nanoparticles was developed. • The hydrogel shows strong tissue adhesion, mechanical robustness, and self-healing for long-term wound application. • PDA enables sustained Ag⁺ release and stable NIR-responsive photothermal heating. • Ag@PDA0.5 balances antibacterial efficacy, photothermal activity, and cytocompatibility. • NIR-mediated photothermal treatment reduces inflammation and promotes vascularization in MRSA-infected diabetic wounds. Chronic diabetic wounds complicated by multidrug-resistant bacterial infections remain a persistent clinical challenge, requiring advanced wound dressings that integrate effective antibacterial protection with tissue regeneration. Herein, we developed a biocompatible and crosslinker-free hydrogel system composed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS), integrated with polydopamine-coated silver nanoparticles (Ag@PDA). The PDA coating, together with the hydrogel matrix, regulated Ag + release, thereby maintaining antibacterial activity while reducing silver-associated cytotoxicity. The resulting PVA/CS-Ag@PDA hydrogel exhibited favorable mechanical properties, tissue adhesion, cytocompatibility, antioxidant activity, and broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy. In vitro and in vivo experiments collectively demonstrated the pro-regenerative and immunomodulatory effects of the hydrogel. In vitro, the hydrogel promoted endothelial cell migration and regulated macrophage inflammatory responses, as evidenced by reduced pro-inflammatory markers and enhanced repair-associated gene expression. In an MRSA-infected diabetic rat wound model, PVA/CS-Ag@PDA treatment suppressed bacterial growth, attenuated inflammatory infiltration, downregulated pro-inflammatory genes including Il6 and Tnf, and upregulated repair-associated genes including Il10 and Mrc1. Moreover, Ag@PDA endowed the hydrogel with concentration-dependent near-infrared (NIR)-triggered photothermal behavior. Among the tested formulations, PVA/CS-Ag@PDA0.5 generated a moderate and stable photothermal response and was selected for NIR-assisted antibacterial treatment. Under NIR irradiation, PVA/CS-Ag@PDA0.5 further enhanced bacterial eradication against MRSA and E. coli . NIR-assisted treatment also reduced CD45 + inflammatory cell infiltration and CD68 + macrophage accumulation, enhanced CD206-associated reparative signaling, and improved epidermal remodeling, collagen deposition. This work presents a rational strategy for engineering silver-based hydrogel dressings with controlled Ag + release, NIR-enhanced antibacterial activity, and improved regenerative efficacy for infected diabetic wound repair. Technological progress has promoted the development of ultra-wide near-infrared (NIR) luminescent materials as a new NIR light source. The ultra-wide near-infrared (NIR) emission in Na(Al,Ga) 11 O 17 :xCr 3+ (NAGO:xCr 3+ ) phosphors is achieved by constructing unique Cr 3+ -Cr 3+ ion pair confined structure. The Cr 3+ -Cr 3+ ion pairs can be observed at a low concentration of Cr 3+ ions(x = 0.04), the increase of Ga 3+ ion would promote the formation of Cr 3+ -Cr 3+ ion pairs, thereby effectively enhancing the energy migration process from high-energy Cr 3+ ions to low-energy Cr 3+ ones. Herein, the full width at half maximum can be finely adjusted in a wide range from 17 to 223 nm, while the emission peaks can shift from 704 to 860 nm. NAGO:xCr 3+ exhibits the longest-wavelength emission in the known Cr 3+ -doped galliates and aluminates phosphors. The study further reveals the inherent mechanism of affect on the photoluminescence properties for Cr 3+ -Cr 3+ ion pairs. The quantum efficiency of optimal NaAl 11 O 17 :0.004Cr 3+ (sharp emission) and NaGa 11 O 17 :0.02Cr 3+ (ultra-wide emission) samples reaches 87.6% and 46.6% with high thermal stability (84.47% and 67.52%@150 °C), respectively. The comprehensive properties are excellent among known phosphors with similar property. Multifunctional applications of NAGO:xCr 3+ in agricultural production, quality inspection, and imaging fields are also demonstrated.

As the primary malignant tumor in the brain, glioblastoma exhibits a high mortality due to the challenges for complete treatment by conventional therapeutic methods. It is of great importance to develop innovative therapeutic agents and methods for treatment of glioblastoma. In this work, the imaging and therapy of glioblastoma are reported by using dye sensitized core-shell NaYF 4 :Yb/Tm@NaYF 4 :Nd nanoparticles with strong up/down-conversion luminescence, of which the ultraviolet up-conversion emissions at 348 and 365 nm are significantly enhanced by nearly 28 times and used to control the release of SO 2 from 5-Amino-1,3-dihydrobenzo[c]thiophene 2,2-dioxide prodrug for gas therapy, and the second near-infrared (NIR-II) down conversion emission at 1340 nm is increased five times and applied for imaging. It is revealed that the released SO 2 molecules not only cause oxidative stress damage of tumor cells, but also induce their pro-death autophagy by down-regulating the expression of p62 and up-regulating the ratio of LC3-II/LC3-I, ultimately inhibiting tumor growth. The work demonstrates the great potential of rare earth nano-platform with functions of NIR-II imaging and photo-controlled gas therapy in the diagnosis and treatment of orthotopic glioblastoma.

BACKGROUND Stimuli-responsive pesticide controlled release system provides a new strategy for the development of high-efficiency pesticides formulation. RESULTS In this article, we report a novel polydopamine surface modified MXene-Ti 3 C 2 T x nanocarrier for pesticide delivery and plant protection. Polydopamine modified Ti 3 C 2 T x (PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x ) nanocarrier was prepared by biomimetic self-polymerization of dopamine on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 T x . A typical pesticide, emamectin benzoate (EB), was loaded on PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x through physisorption process, with a high pesticide loading rate of 45.37%. PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibited excellent photothermal conversion effect ( η = 34.5%). Under the irradiation of near-infrared (NIR) laser, EB would sustained release from PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x nanocarrier to surrounding medium. Compared with free EB, EB@PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibited prolonged persistence period, which can keep antipest activity at 14 days post spraying. In addition, PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x nanocarrier and EB@PDA@Ti 3 C 2 T x nanoformulation are of good safety, showing no side effect to the seed germination and seedling growth. CONCLUSION This research developed a novel nanocarrier for water-insoluble pesticide delivery, realizing NIR-responsive controlled release and sustained antipest activity.

Smart self-healing coatings containing stimuli-responsive materials have attracted tremendous interest recently due to their switchable and desirable functionalities with the changes of external environment. However, the fabrication of most smart self-healing coatings requires complex procedures and/or unfriendly chemicals, and the environmental durability of a coating is still considered as a major factor that influences its large-scale engineering applications. Herein, an eco-friendly smart self-healing coating with near infrared (NIR) and pH dual-responsive superhydrophobic and anti-biofouling properties was fabricated by simply mixing the biomimetic stimuli-responsive mesoporous polydopamine microspheres (polydimethylsiloxane-loaded mesoporous polydopamine microspheres, abbreviated as [email protected] MSPs) with waterborne resin and hydrophobic nanoparticles. The [email protected] MSPs were fabricated through an emulsion-induced interfacial anisotropic assembly strategy, followed by the abundant loading of hydrophobic PDMS. These biocompatible [email protected] MSPs with NIR and pH dual-responsive properties acted as the self-healing agents and green hydrophobic fillers. The [email protected] MSPs also provided source for outfield stimulated response and no additional responsive material was required for the self-healing process. Superhydrophobicity of the coating was achieved with these fluorine-free, non-toxic, and biocompatible materials. When damaged by the external environment, the coating could directly self-heal its superhydrophobicity and active anti-biofouling properties under the NIR or pH stimuli, owing to the release of low-surface-energy PDMS from the [email protected] MSPs. The cytotoxicity of the casting solution for this smart coating and the long-term self-healing superhydrophobicity of the coating in harsh environments, including exposure to UV irradiation and immersion in salt, strong acid, and strong base solutions, were investigated. This smart coating shows great promise for anti-fouling, anti-adhesion, and biomedical applications due to its excellent self-healing and biological properties. The MPDA-based stimuli-responsive microspheres can be extended to other functionalized smart coatings.
